I believe the violin concerto, in the piano version is a masterpiece and should be played more, I love it

arranged by Beethoven, asked by Clementi..

Agreed. For some reason, the classical musical word is heavily biased on the same concertos over and over. Every major classical music competition always has the same concertos played. This would be a beautiful concerto to be played. The same concept for the Beethoven Triple Concerto rarely played.

The concerto is beautifull indeed, but it is too easy for playing so the top pianists are not interested in performing it. It is lacking virtuosity so they could not show off.

What is amazing to me are the cadenzas BY BEETHOVEN for piano and timpani! Bravo Beethoven.

Very, very interesting, good solid performance. I very good alternative working of a tremendous Concerto for people who do not like the sound of a violin (my wife is allergic to the resonance of the instrument). You hear the wonderful melodies which are augmented above the ‘simplicity’ of the violin. I may arouse a storm here but it is just my opinion as a life-long devotee of the greatest composer ever. Bravo!!

Isn't it mind blowing, that Beethoven himself wrote the piano transcription too

I don't have much knowledge about classical music, but Beethoven is a great composer to keep me curious and thirsty for more. His work doesn't age, and has certainly inspired all the music that I, as a beginner, would compare it to, like Final Fantasy soundtracks for example. A perfect mix of fantasy and strength, passion and sweetness.

Jingge Yan is an incredible Beethoven player ! Must here his Sonatas ,The soloist here is very intelligent and clever he makes a lot of things here work that would sound empty and less magnificent than on piano : also the faster tempo in 1st movement makes sense with less sustained piano strings . 12:35 is difficult to make work it must sound like a heaving , fighting thing on the violin and the pianist/musician is remarkable here ! Also the music is of the highest feat of imagination in this section. It's amazing when you look at the4th and 5th piano concerti the solo part's figurations op.58 & 73 show incredible imagination !

Amadeus Webersinke & Kurt Masur, Gewandhaus Leipzig, 1970's. I've heard a few recordings of this fantastic concerto, including the very disappointing Daniel Barenboim version, and nothing reaches the clarity and discipline of Amadeus Webersinke, especially in the atmospheric middle section of the 1st part. Try to find it, if I may recommend.

Love the piano arrangement but, it has lost a little of it's romantic sound.

Although I haven't researched the early performance history of the Op 61 concerto I suspect that it may have had more initial success in the piano version than the original setting for violin. Does anyone know if Clementi, for example, promoted the score for piano and orchestra over the material Beethoven shared with him in the first place?
