Yo I started playing Ryu. It took me 3 evenings to get elite smash playing on a switch lite too. I realise ES isn't that much of an achievement but it still feels like a milestone. I definitely feel like I'll start playing Ken too, whenever that feels surmountable. I've never had close to as much fun playing this game than as I've had with Terry and Ryu, it's quite surprising how satisfying they are to play!
That is absolutely a milestone congrats man!!! I'm so happy you enjoy playing Ryu and Terry, I completely agree that they are very satisfying to play. Definitely let me know how Ken goes!
First off, thank you so much for the sub!! That means a lot and I really appreciate the support. Thank you for clicking on the video haha I'll be continuing down this path improving each day!
Keep going! There is a long way but keep at it! I wanna see your true potential wuth him when you master him completely. "The journey has just begun" - Ryu
I love this! Thank you so much. I'll keep at it and keep pushing these characters and pushing out the best content I've got. Thank you for the support!!
@@1122workout i have mained Ridley since release, but I took a long break from Smash following all of the controversy last year. I used Ryu a lot in Smash 4, and now that I’m back to playing Ultimate again, I’ve decided to try him out as a possible secondary. I am enamored with the way the Shotos play, and they are some of my favorites in the whole game, specifically Ryu.
@@Gohma55 I don't blame you for taking a break after all that controversy came out. Ridley is really fun, and Ryu as a secondary will be great I think. The shotos are extremely fun to play they just offer so much potential for creativity. I'm happy you're back and I know you played Ryu in Smash 4 but if you have any questions let me know I'd be happy to help.

@@1122workout So I know that first L. Down tilt was the perfect chip damage before the pause, two tap collar breaker (focus attack not really cb, but still)
That's incredibly kind and I'm happy you enjoyed the video, but of course you can! All it takes is some practice with this character in training mode and seeing how characters are launched and which angles at different percents and then thinking of different ways to link up moves together. Then comes experience in game, which helps you find even more ways to link moves up or different routes because opponents will DI differently, tech, techroll, or miss the tech. Everything comes with experiences! I see you play Kirby right? Do you also play Ryu?
@@1122workout I've been playing Ryu quite recently, but the combos are nothing compared to what I've seen in this videos, and the KO's probably arent either. I still have fun playing him though!
@@themaraca778 that's all that matters! I'm glad you're having fun with him. Is there anything you're having trouble with that I can help with? I'm more than happy to explain things and answer questions
@@1122workout Starting Ryu combos... I've seen from my practicing that landing Nair is the easiest way to start combos with tapped Down Tilt/Up Tilt, which I normally follow up with Jab to Shakenetsu or Tatsu (Not sure if it's true or not). But other than that, I'm not quite sure how to start an effective string of hits.
@@themaraca778 those are great bread and butters. Usually it's nair to light d tilt to heavy d tilt to shaku/tatsu. By doing this, you can open opportunities for resets, meaning that nothing is true after these bread and butters, but if you catch your opponent in another move you can continue a combo. For example, after I land a bread and butter like light d tilt heavy d tilt to shaku, I then throw out a slow Shaku hover. Shaku hover is when you short hop, and then you do Shaku in the air and you can hold forward (or backward) and Ryu will drift forward (or backward). This allows you to run behind a slow Shaku and then if it lands, you can combo anything and everything after because the opponent will be in so much hit stun because it is a projectile that has 5 hits and the hit stun after lasts long too. If they jump over the Shaku, you can catch them with an up air to shoruken, or a back air, and if they sheild it, well you can just run up and collar bone breaker them and break their sheild for free (hard f tilt). Slow Shaku hover is also a great way to approach because of what I said before, you can run behind it and space yourself to be ready to combo them depending on what they do (shield, jump, roll whatever) and you can combo anything out of it (I like to spike them after because its sick). Before I go further with other stuff, let me know if this all makes sense and if you'd like me to clarify or explain things further/better
@@TheKnightguard1 oh absolutely, the ryu vids will keep coming and I'm gonna continue pushing him as a character and finding different combo routes and setups. There definitely needs to be more Ryus
I actually do have some Terry clips I'm stocking up for a Terry video down the line. I mained him when he came out and then Ken/Ryu got buffed again and I really started playing them and Terry together, then over the summer something clicked with Ken and a little later something clicked with Ryu and I've just been having an insane amount of fun with those 2 getting creative setups and combos I've put Terry on the back burner a little bit but I still play him and get cool clips as well. I just feel I have more combo freedom with the shotos and that means more fun for me
This means SO much to me seriously thank you! Especially coming from a non shoto mean, this is so nice of you. Love to play you again sometime and hopefully I'll be able to seal stocks more consistently than shoruken call outs when you flip kick hahaha
