- "Amid the hopelessness and crime that plague many urban neighborhoods is a 38-block area in Detroit known as Ravendale where families are working together to fight poverty and drugs. Made up of 1,100 homes, Ravendale has an unemployment rate of 33%, with most households receiving government assistance. The residents of this neighborhood, and the positive changes they have made in their community, are the focus of 'A Neighborhood Redeemed.'
'"Narrated by Ossie Davis, 'A Neighborhood Redeemed' focuses on the revitalization efforts of the Ravendale residents who have formed block club to rid their street of crack houses and help repair decaying buildings and homes. The program profiles several residents who [not] only spearheaded the revalorization efforts, but, by overcoming personal obstacles, have become prime examples of its success. 'A Neighborhood Redeemed' can serve as an uncommon illustration of how a community can meet the challenge of reaffirming their homes and neighborhoods.

In the 90s, paying your rent didn't induce anxiety because it didn't take all of your monthly income to pay your rent.
I have lived in metro Detroit all my life and hadn’t heard of this neighborhood.
When I looked it up, I know this area. I just had never heard the name. It’s on the near east side by 94 and Conner. I had to go to a drug testing facility nearby for a job in 2009, and it was really bad.
Downtown has gotten so much better, but the neighborhoods haven’t felt it yet. Seeing this is really sad.
Same. I grew up on the East side of Detroit, not to far away from this area and I never knew that it was called Ravendale.
Went from a population of 4100 to approximately 550 today. I grew up in the Brightmoor neighborhood in Detroit. We experienced the same challenges in the 70's, 80's and 90's.
I grew up in Forest Park
So sad because the houses and neighborhoods were so nice smh just sad man. Beautiful neighborhoods just wasting away

It still hasn't gotten any better.
Beautiful documentary, brought tears to my eyes. These days are long gone though; no one cares or looks out for one about. It's every man for himself 😢

Hope she doing better
It starts with pickin up litter. It’s psychological,The more litter, the less hope!
And that desire to do that and care starts at home. We gotta be raising people that see the merit in it instead of embracing the apathy.
I live around people like this. They are animalistic. They throw full McDonald's bags of trash right into the driveway of the apartment complex. Its disgusting. They let their kids throw soda cups full of liquids right on the hallway floors. Half eaten food in the hallway.
They are literally too stupid to understand that will bring bugs into the building. Animals behave better. Animals are cleaner. I can't believe the regression. And then they blame everyone except themselves
To me it starts with not littering in the first case
