    Great analysis. Clear, concise and reasonable. I totally agree about things maybe seeming intentional when actually they're not. You can only hope that people would not always rush to the worst possible conclusion and maybe take time to think things over when racing.

      @@DavidPerel one of those aspects of being overly aggressive is not enough laps ,time and ability to admit that you will finish worse than you want. This dive bombing happened to many times ,no matter how defending i was driving ,or tied to curve as much as possible .. and then on top of that i was getting penalty even i was the victim ... It is simply stupid .. You are very good and fast driver and you knew that there will be no enough room for you . You just shouldn't do it . On the other side if there is 12 laps not 5 you wouldn't do it at all . Not enough time is driving everybody this way ,which is quite unfortunate . You know you are faster than all of them , but there is simply not enough time . Thats why there is something like qualification. So you don't have to go from the bottom of the grid.

    Hey David, I am ERT_olegna from one of your Suzuka races 2 days ago where we unfortunately had a coming together in the last lap before turn 1, making me lose a lot of time and positions unfortunately. I really don't think you are dirty, after the race I heard that you were apparently a real racing driver. I literally was wondering after that specific race what happened as I tought to give you a lot of space and than get tapped in the grass before the turn began. I somewhere hope you still remember that moment. I think it's very positive how you reflect on yourself and respect that from you. No hard feelings either way, hopefully will race you again and both have a good feeling about that then.

    You're spot on about being aware of a possibly faster car behind you by way of two additional screens. Most are probably ignorant of the chance that they are leaving the door wide open somewhere. One of your best videos so far!

    You noted leaving space on the inside for your teammate Ferrari at Spa, IRL, because you could see he might dive up the inside. I can see the difference in sim since we can’t see nearly as well. VR helps with that! Almost every crash I have in sim is turning into the apex and getting bumped in the quarter panel. Had no idea the other car was there. Couldn’t see them.

    This is amazing, still the 50/50 problems rely on people who do not use their radars even when you position yourself before the curve. There definitely an advantage on real world, since you have more vision but the radar is there for compensating it. People should use the RADAR. I know you are aggressive, but aggressive doesn't mean shutting the door for someone who is already there.

    • @DavidPerel
      @DavidPerel  6 років тому +1

      Yea I probably should start using the Radar more. I've never liked it because it feels like I'm "cheating" myself in some way as we don't have the radar in real life.

    Fascinating to see this discussion of real world vs sim racing etiquette. The greyness of it all and different opinions on what is on and what is not has stopped me from going race in real life as I can't imagine how gutting it would be to write off a race car over a bad move of anybody's car, especially somebody else ;)

    • @DavidPerel

  • @cliverose4769

    It’s good to analyse ourselves about potential overtakes failings but people need to be more aware/realistic of overtakes happening to them and use the mirrors/radar more.
    Lost count of the amount of times I’ve made a legit inside pass and been clattered into just because said player is blissfully unaware of my whereabouts. Then you have to run the SR lottery for the next 10secs 🤷‍♂️
    In my experience there’s a fine line between being a model professional driver and someone who does what they need to do occasionally for a result. See pretty much every F1 Champion in history for further examples....
    Don’t beat yourself up buddy.

  • @cdbkr
    @cdbkr 4 роки тому

    totally agree with your thoughts regarding the difference between Real and Sim "behaviors" when overtaking. The issue I see with Sim racing is that we-drivers don't have a full view of where the cars behind or overtaking ones are. Thus, who is behind "should" be more respectful. Anyway, while battling for the 4th where you dove into the inside, you were previously respecting the line (not moving left/right) and showed your presence to both cars. So IMHO, 4th car tried to cross the line and forgot to check you, while your move was kind of fair.

  • @sveis3229

    Have watched many of your videos and usually always thought at some poing during your race that a couple of the overtakes are overly aggressive. Especially those late lunges into tight corners. Ive always wondered why you do those (and often getting involved in penalties and suffering positions for it), as I would imagine a bit more patience would bring you further up the grid. Nice to see some reflections on the matter and a comparison with real racing (I never knew the difference tbh). I do believe with some improvements on overtaking you could get into the top24 races - the speed has always been there. Good luck!

    The thing people dont understand in sim racing is when you have a guy next to you allow him space, and if you need to back off a bit to avoid contact. There are moments when being aggressive is okay, but a lot of racers do it at bad times in sims causing wrecks. Being patient is better because it can allow you to get through a whole race cleanly rather then failing.

    • @TopMassEntertainment
      @TopMassEntertainment 6 років тому +1

      Also at 8:17 the guy on the outside is completely wrong for coming into your lane, he should be AWARE that you were going on the inside BECAUSE he was running wide. Also just fyi you are playing GTS, which is a arcade racing game. people arent going to do things properly. Thats why i only stick to pc sims, because more then likely people will have a bit better tendencies then consoles. they are trying to be "casual". the issue lyes with driver etiquette , and people not caring. this is why i stopped playing project shit cars 2. I think your tendancies on moves is fine, just wait for ACC to finish and hop on there i think people will be more prone to driver with common sense of racing

    I like this format and kudos for analysing your own performance but all those complaints are just their opinions.
    You probably remember I watched the whole stream and I did comment at times saying it was hard but fair (and I still think the same). Those couple times people are probably complaining about are times where they tried to overtake you on the outside when it wasn't really possible, e.g. turn one at Suzuka. They can't expect you to just give them room or let them past just because they want to overtake you. That's not exactly racing.
    I don't think you need to change anything, I like your style as is. Also, give my regards to Marc! :)

    I tend to drive on GTS more like a real racing driver and prefer to race against people who do the same. I like "hard and fast" racing, and don't mind a little contact in tight situations. The way I usually see it, if everyone involved stayed on the track and pointed in the right direction, it was fair racing. You've got multiple people fighting for the same bit of real estate at the edge of control, these things will happen.
    What bothers me more are the folks who don't understand racing try to force a pass where they shouldn't, and end up knocking people completely off the track or causing both cars to spin out. I end up in situations where the guy behind me comes in too hot, they hit me, then spin out and I take the penalty hit for it.

  • @bbrodriguez33
    @bbrodriguez33 5 років тому +1

    This sort of thing really depends on the person too, me personally i can tell when someones racing hard. I don't mind little taps to let me know you're there and im slowing you down. I grew up watching V8 supercars, it's normal for me. After all my favourite driver was called 'the enforcer'.
    Also that 'mistake' on the hairpin, you kind of just found yourself in that position. Without slamming the brakes you did what you could to avoid it imo

  • @Rapid_GT
    @Rapid_GT 6 років тому +2

    All this just goes to show that racing in the real world (that most playing GTS have no experience of) has some very different rules because it's not real, there's no need for respect to things like damage to a very expensive car costing a whole team time, money and even a championship, no matter how good GTS is it's just a game but still fun and valuable in learning how to race, most of us have done dodgy moves on GTS so don't beat yourself up about it David and it's great you've took the time to demonstrate the reality between sim racing and real world car racing.

    Great perspective. I've seen simracers who absolutely lose their shit over these "unspoken rules", like YOUR NOSE *MUST* BE UP TO HIS B PILLAR BEFORE YOU'RE ENTITLED TO CHALLENGE!!!! and it's pretty lame. If you're wide, sorry, I'm shooting that gap - there's a very famous quote by some bloke named Ayrton Senna about that one. The only thing I care about like that (well, it's an actual rule in many series, but still) is moving once for defense; that's just fair sportsmanship and not weaving about blocking like a shitter. That, and dumping people solely for position. Anything else is fair game. Is it always wise to shoot for every gap you see? No, as we see at 7:30, but it's all down to the circumstances and reading the situation.
    Here's the reddit thread that got me heated about this subject recently. Gotta love the actual Porsche GT3 Cup champion who comes in and is like "yeah, I'd have done the same thing". Glad to hear further backing up from yourself that it's not sin to go for the gap. Hell, I see divebombs in F1 all the time all along the field; I doubt some random simracer on Reddit is about to lecture Daniel Ricciardo on how to execute a fair overtake. It's racing. Anyway, end rant, great video. Cheers

    I think people complaining for these kind of contacts don't understand what's the game here. In motor racing you bump and get bumped, it's just part of the sport - one shall accept it and keep going. The guy that intentionally tries to bump back is more of a pity in my opinion.
    Having said so, you are probably right to train your aggression deployment during the race. Making sure to only perform the right moves at the right time will result in less troubles and more races won. That's what champions do after all. Keep up the great work!

You can't just enter inside and say, hey man, let me space! But this is game, and I am not real racer, so I think you know better.

    From what I've seen you're certainly one of the cleaner GT Sport drivers but it's interesting to see the analysis nonetheless, particularly how in certain races you'd be MORE aggressive in real life as you'd have more faith that the other person will be aware of you/ that it's acceptable. Nice to see how working through the pack should work as it's something I need to improve upon too but I'm kinda interested to see the analysis of where you think you were too aggressive.
