- Anthem performing "Road to Nowhere" off of their DVD called CORE. This was performed and recorded live!! Take notes on how to play cleanly. This is a fantastic band. Naoto Shibata (Bass), Eizo Sakamoto (Vocals), Akio Shimizu (Guitar), Hirotsugu Homma (Drums).

Anthem are great, just fact they're still so active (albeit not much in 90s) they churn out pretty good stuff which is rare for a 80s band

this band is brilliant in many ways. 2 me. They have an old school vibe 2 them, kinda of like a progressive Loudness sound but a lot crisper and cleaner. Better equipment and what not.....The singer and his screams remind me of a lot of different vocalists, but his sound is unique. Right now I cant compare 2 anyone. Which is a good thing.The drummer? same thing... cant compare 2 any1, as the bassist does his duties amazingly well. The guitarist and his H N Kettner's speak 4 themselves.brilliant

and, now that i listen more closely, i'd have to liken it to Queensryche even more than Maiden. Metal with a certain amount of class is hard to achieve. They've nailed it. I've always like those type of clean, tight arrangements with the ripping vocals. There's a tribut album "Working Man" which gives a metal treatment to Rush tunes. Sounds awesome. But, i digress. Anthem rocks. if they came to the states, i'd check them out.
Naoto Shibata has his own project called Naoto Shibata Project, lol.
They made arrange music of Castlevania. Look for Perfect Selection: Dracula Battle.
He also played on a lot of Sega soundtracks, like the earliest versions of the Crush 40 stuff. I heard him on that when I was a kid and that's always what I want bass to sound like to this day.

I have to say, as much as I love X-Japan too, Anthem KICKS SOME BLOODY ASS!
If anyone know these guys' booking agent, they should tell them to tour the US with Loudness. They'd pack out the venues!
I prefer these live sessions to the album versions cause I can't hear Shibata bass hardly on the album.
@ShivaTheAuspicious Yokosuka Saver Tiger Is the band hide was in. Saber Tiger is pretty good as well, though. And just so you know, it's hide(yes, with a lower case "h"). Hyde is a different Japanese artist from a band called L'Arc~en~Ciel.
And I do agree, this is real metal, not the ridiculous stuff that most people listen to nowadays. Sometimes I feel like I was born a couple decades too late. Lol.

At first I thought this was Ozzy Osbourne's Road To Nowhere cover or something :P..This band kicks ass.
I like this guys voice better then Dio. It seems to have more dynamics and a better vibrato.

these guys are awesome. Not buying the 'recorded live' bit, though. You you don't record vocals and guitar solos for distribution in a 'one take', 'live' setting. I love the music, though. Very Maiden-esque, but what metal band isn't? Too bad shredding guitars and ear piercing vocals areen't mainstream in the states anymore. If this hip hop b.s. doesn't fade quickly, i may move to Japan.
well, it's really a moot point. these guys rock, regardless. i guarantee you, however, that the vocals and guitar solo(s) were not recorded live in one take. Not saying it can't be done, but that's just not the way you do it. For the record, i am not a fan of talentless metal bands. I am a fan of Rush. I was looking for Anthem by Rush and came across this. glad i did. it's pretty cool.

hey whats the tuning is the bass on? i can't seem to figure it out, kick ass bass riff
11 years later, sorry... Eb standard. Most of their stuff has been in that tuning or I believe Db standard for the past twenty years. Heavy Metal Anthem is still in E.
I love playing Naoto's parts. I just use an app to pitch the tunes up so I don't have to retune my bass.
