Somebody once asked Dolly how she liked Whitney’s version of “I Will Always Love You”. Dolly replied “I like it just fine, every time I hear I’m making money”.

I will always love DOLLY's version better. Whitney was an amazing singer but Dolly's original is something else.
The song was recorded to commemorate the Country Music Association Awards reaching its 50th year. Originally, CMA Awards producers had wanted to record a cover of a single song; the idea to instead record a mashup came from Joseph Kahn, who directed the song's music video. The song was recorded in a span of three days in Nashville, Tennessee in June 2016 with Shane McAnally as producer, with the music video produced concurrently. So says wikipedia
The song “I Will Always Love You.” was Dolly Parton’s song; Whitney’s version was a cover. Dolly wrote it for Porter Wagoner as a way to show she was ready to leave his show and pursue a solo career. Another interesting fact, Elvis Presley once showed interest in singing it, but he wanted half the publishing rights and Dolly wouldn't agree to that, so Elvis didn't sing it. Dolly first realised it back in 1974. So, the song is older than some might think.

I’m still laughing about Keith’s reaction. Great one Stephen. 😂 Here in Munich/Germany they play country roads in the beer tents at the Oktoberfest. Every German knows that song. A couple weeks ago we had our first ever regular season NFL game in Munich. And the whole stadium sang country roads and sweet Caroline.

Interestingly enough, when you play Sweet Caroline in WV, after the lyrics "sweeeet caroliiiine" everyone in the room will shout "Eat shit Pitt!" It's a thing with the rivalry between WVU and Pitt football. And I've heard that happen as far away as the Bahamas. - Keith
Ok, we don’t do that here. 😂 Interesting. Sounds like fun. Rivalry in our football/ soccer is much more violent and brutal. Fan groups burn things in the stands, will fight each other, throw things and the police have to keep them apart. So better a nice song. 😂

@@stevebournite184 oh, I hope you had at least an ok time here. Military right? Thank you for your service. Yeah, sports and drinking is a lot different. I lived in Michigan for a couple of years. Studied there. The first two years I had to drive to Canada to legally drink a beer. I was 19 at the time and I was so shocked about that. In Germany I was drinking and partying for like 5 years already and now I felt like a little kid again. And I had trouble with the speed limits. And your fines over there are a big deal. Here you get a slap on the hand, pay like 25euro and that’s it. But getting stopped by an American cop was not my favourite activity. 😜 They told me at least twice “this is not the autobahn”. Now after years of travelling to the USA we are good tourists. 😁 spend our money there. Enjoy everything your great country has to offer and stay out of trouble. But the differences in the cultures are not so huge, that you are having a really hard time to adapt. So even though we are so far away, we can relate to Dustin and Keith’s stories and love watching and hang out with you guys. And we enjoy it a lot.

It's three different songs combined and that song was Whitney Houston in the movie but originally it was Dolly Parton who wrote it even Elvis wanted to record it and she would not let him and it's an amazing if you take all the aspects and put them together
I too am West Virginia born and raised… mid Ohio Valley on the river…. My family has very deep old roots here and I love my state and wouldn’t live anywhere else with the exception of maybe Montana… but when I’m gone I want to be 6ft in these mountains. I’m a proud Mountain mama and even though I’ve lived “in town” since the birth of my 19 yr old, I am a few miles away from my very rural roots and can’t wait to make it back out to the woods. I LOVE MY STATE. I would never change my roots or disrespect what has made me who I am… the good, the bad, the sad, the ugly and the love. One must humble themselves. Keith reminds me of my cousin Bobby (looks just like him) but it saddens me deeply his feelings on our beautiful but sometimes tragic state. My heels are in and I will not waver on my pride and self humbling of my state and it’s people. I had friends that couldn’t wait to leave so he’s not alone but it’s terribly sad… to each their own, but NO WAY IN HELL do I wanna live anywhere but here, in West by God Virginia

9:48 Exactly.. That's what drives me crazy when I see so many people request reactors who are new to the genre to react to songs like "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" by George Jones, a great song that references the names and nicknames of a bunch of legends.
Reactors who have no clue who they are, are not going to get the full impact of the song, and might even think the song is just "meh". But for some reason, people incorrectly think it will hit the reactor with the same feelings that they get from the song.. Make sure the reactors some familiarity with artists who are being referenced first, before requesting that they react to songs like that.

Thank you! I needed to start my day off with a laugh! It's not been a great 2023 yet. Hoping for it to start looking up! In the last 2 weeks I've been told there might not be a solution for my debilitating back pain, and I just need to learn to cope with my TBI. Then on Sunday my Father fell and tore his Hamstring! So yeah, a good laugh is totally appreciated!!! On the song, I really appreciated it for what it is. I think if it had been ANY other song you both would have absolutely loved it! The vocals were amazing, and the post production on both the music and video were top notch! I loved seeing all the old greats, the current greats, and the young greats sharing a song together in such a magical way!

😂 Epic reaction …I had to text this to my man because he has heard this exact rant about the Blue Ridge Mountains…dude is singing about western Virginia NOT my home state which is the REAL “Almost Heaven”.
I swear it is in part that everywhere we go we hear “oh you are from WV…I’ve been to Roanoke or so and so is from Virginia”. Our ancestors literally seceded from Virginia…Hillbilly Proud runs deep where I’m from.

Good times 😂 he was all…that rig is in our lane…Mom says he knows…he’ll get over when we get there LMAO. It was fall and beautiful and he was hooked. He learned the meaning of kiss your a$$ turns and straightening out the blacktop that trip lol.
Really crooked road with a lady who has been stuck in the Bay Area driving a tiny rental car (held the road nicely) who is used to being in a 65 passenger school bus and who was enjoying the nostalgic trip down memory lane was a very good time and one of my favorite Mama Kat memories ❤️ she won a rodeo for literally stopping her bus on a dime.

It doesn’t matter how much of the mountains and river are in WV. The sound is about a specific place in WV and the roads to get there. The Ohio rover is very much a part of life here in Huntington, WV. The fact it’s shared by 7 other states doesn’t change it. So I don’t see what the issue is with the lyrics of the song.
But to everyone that lives on that nine mile stretch that is their reality.
I live in Eastern Kentucky in the foothills of the Appalachians but to say that I can't play or sing songs about Appalachia because the majority of it is in other states is not fair.

You know at least in the beginning of this song the first person that started to sing Country Roads was at least Brad Paisley someone who is actually from West Virginia LOL but aside from the first song that was chosen to go into it appreciating the legends that were singing all these other songs and songs that weren't even theirs for some of them and then some of them singing their own classic songs when you get a chance you should probably react to the women of country music tribute that aired on the CMA Awards a couple of years ago it was pretty good and had all these legendary women singing together also there is a video here on UA-cam of Carrie Underwood singing at the Grand Ole Opry and she sang some hits that were done by other legendary women you should probably check it out she really shows how great her voice actually is it was actually amazing all of this other stuff aside you guys now know that your subscribers are going to now send you bourbon bribes to do songs that will just totally screw with Keith now LOL

Charlie set award card on fire during award show after John won an award for "County Roads" in protest of John Denver. Widely considered one most famous County Music award moments good or bad

The song is written about getting to West Virginia. Country roads is the roads getting to West Virginia. Specifically route 28 which goes through Maryland and Virginia. The song was written by a woman named Taffy who was part of the 70s band named Starland Vocal Band. They were famous for the 1976 hit Afternoon Delight

The songwriters of country roads didn’t know that the mountains and the river ran through 9 miles of WV but when they were asked about it and he said that the narrator of the song was traveling through Virginia to get to his home in WV

@@BourbonCountryReacts Exactly! The writers of the song, wrote it about Maryland, but the 3 syllables didn't work in the melody. So the changed it to West Virginia. The writers figured there were mountains, rivers and long, winding, country roads, so it would be alright. This tribute was a beautiful compilation that took a lot of work to put together. But, oh well. You looked silly sitting there pouting the whole time.
