@Nemorensis Rex No one has the authority to speak to someone else’s freedom. Reparations would not be considered a handout. It would be a legitimate reaction for the unpaid and tumultuous experience of black people in America. As descendants, we may be more familiar of the real life implications of these circumstances. I would encourage anyone who is not black in America to be wise enough to listen and trust Black people when we tell our experiences and concerns. To make assumptions regarding someone’s virtue and competency is repugnant. It is the very attitude that further supports the oppression and dismissive lack of regard of some people.
@Junie Jake what exactly do you find humorous in dialogue about the enslavement of a people? How does one discern the expiration date on listening and having empathy for others regarding trauma? The tone of your response reflects the same brick wall that some people may face when trying to tell their stories. It is exhausting. If this subject is of any interest to you, it may be helpful for you to do some further research. I told myself that it is not productive to dive deep into an exchange with people who may demonstrate a lack of sincerity in regards to the subject matter. Some people genuinely lack the understanding, respect, and interest of the plight of many black people. If it is merely an “lol” for you, and some others, how can there be any earnestness in repairing anything? Everything I said I meant, and I’m not interested in going back and forth with anyone. Be blessed.
@Junie Jake “reparations is a joke,” was part of your reasonable questions? Your comment was inflammatory and unproductive overall. My feedback is genuine. I believe that there are people who value and want to sincerely listen to the experiences of others. Words can have power and meaning with accountability. Your words have no face attached. Enjoy your day as well.
There was slavery in Tennessee after Juneteenth. Please stop saying they were the last to be freed. Slavery didn't end until December of that year and over 200,000 more enslaved people were set free. The miseducation of our people is real 📕😟
Wow, a special holiday for descendants of less than 13% of the population. As a descendant of Union soldiers I noticed there was no mention of the sacrifice of my ancestors made on behalf of freeing slaves. I anticipate being called “racist” for pointing out the obvious and to those who will do so I could care less.
Not only were your ancestors not enslaved, but they had their full rights...black people were both enslaved AND fought in the war, AND didn't even *begin* to see equal rights until the mid-1960s. Shame on you for equating the two.

@Kerry Smith I grew up in the Deep South and have never known any “privileged” people who had more money than the Knowles family.
