You can hear the live vocals on alexa’s semi final performance better because the backing track has been set a much lower volume compared to the qualifying performance.
Actually Alexa was singing live but the backtrack was too loud, in the second performance they did a better job and you can hear alexa clearly singing. ALSO Alexa IS a kpop idol
Semi Finalists I care about: Oklahoma Texas Kansas Rhode Island Wyoming Georgia California Washington Alabama ------------------------------ NQs I mourn: Nevada (Complete robbery) Oregon New Mexico USVI Wisconsin Minnesota
As an American ESC fan, I am actually quite comforted when I see how much this echoes ESC. I didn't know if we could pull off such similarities, but yayyyy. Also I am now realizing that Texas reminds me of Luca Hanni. Hello to Northern Ireland BTW, love it there. PS: Michael Bolton, Jewel, Macy Gray, and Sisqo are all established singers :) Sisqo was quite popular at the turn of the millennium with "The Thong Song" haha
Well, I guess it's great that the US isn't in ESC and have their own contest now based on this reaction. I think the tastes of Europe and the US are quite different. And yeah, not expect that much rap and country ish songs from the US is like not expect Swedish pop from Sweden or songs in French from France. :) Personally, I don't mind ASK, I like country music so I'm fine those songs and, I mean, look the performances, they are fire!. I like quite a few song and they are in my playlist now, but I can see that the idea of the show is totally different and, honestly, I prefer ESC format. Also I see that the broadcasting stats aren't that great, so maybe it's going to be the first and sadly the last show... I mean, 1,5 m people watching isn't that great comparing to let's say SuperBowl (the audience is 100 times bigger).
Pretty sure singing live was actually one of the rules. Soooo... Backing track was definitely too loud on AleXa for this kind of audience though, but they do it to minimize the sound of their breathing heavily and jostling around due to the intense choreo. Hopefully, if you watched her next two performances, you'll have heard what it sounds like with the backing track too low (which they did to basically shut down the doubters)... but for the finale it was very well balanced and a great performance. Not to mention a winning one! 😊
I think it’s also depending what you grew up on. I’m used to American music because I grew up in America. I really like watching EuroVision, but I definitely prefer American music over European music. BUT I like a few songs here and there and it doesn’t take away from how much fun I have with EuroVision. I’m glad to hear your take on ASC though! My top 10 are Maine, Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, North Dakota, Michigan, Alabama, Louisiana, and Kansas :)
As someone who lives in Texas, I can agree with the sentiment that there were too many country songs for my liking. Surely there's some indie artist in Montana or Tennessee who can give something less predictable. I hope there'll be a second season and that they can fix the kinks in the first season, such as not having the backing track overpower live vocals or setting a limit on the number of people on stage.
The semifinals have already started. The 1st was on Monday of this week, the next will be next Monday. Grand final the Monday after that. this weeks semi (results pending): "Natalie" by Ada LeAnn from Michigan, "Shameless" by Jared Lee from Massachusetts, "Fly" by MARi from New Hampshire, "New Boot Goofin" by Ryan Charles from Wyoming, "The Difference" by Ni/Co from Alabama, "Feel the Love" by Riker Lynch from Colorado, "Sparrow" by Jordan Smith from Kentucky, "Fire It Up" by Jonah Prill from Montana, "Held On Too Long" by Hueston from Rhode Island, "Wonderland" by AleXa from Oaklahoma, and "A Bit of Both" by Allen Stone from Washington (which topped the Jury vote and will go through to the final. The public's 4 picks will be announced later.) next week's semi: "Green Light" by ENISA from New York, "Full Circle" by Tenelle from American Samoa, "Right in the Middle" by John Morgan from North Carolina, "Keys to the Kingdom" by Sweet Taboo from California, "DIY" by Stella Cole from Georgia, "Mr. Independent" by Grant Knoche from Texas, "Seventeen" by Tyler Braden from Tennessee, "Tell Me" by Broderik Jones from Kansas, "Can't Make You Love Me" by Chloe Fredericks from North Dakota, "Beautiful World" by Michael Bolton from Connecticut, and "LOKO" by Christian Pagan from Puerto Rico
I took the time to listen to all of the songs when they were in the heats stage. I think the quality kinda surprised me. A majority of the songs were good actually and there were a few that were really amazing, no perfect songs though. My top 10 (with scores out of 10): 1: Texas: 9.5/10. 2: Minnesota: 9.5/10 (I have actually gone into their back catalogue and they are actually one of my current fave artists actually) 3: Illinois: 9.3/10 4: Oregon: 9.2/10 5: Alabama: 9/10 6: Massachusetts: 9/10 7: Puerto Rico: 9/10 8: Colorado: 9/10 9: Kansas: 9/10 10: Rhode Island: 9/10 Honourable mentions: Oklahoma, Georgia, North Carolina, California, Nevada, Wisconsin, Washington D.C., Delaware, Maine and US Virgin Islands. I actually disliked only about 10 of them. It was a really good field for me and honestly I thought I would regret following it at first but it was actually much better than I expected. Loads of the songs are just quite memorable to me. And yes, there were actually many Swedish people behind the songs and it is even ran by a Swedish guy but I like the vibes. I do like Melfest actually so loads of the songs are definitely up my alley. There is actually loads of genre variation in this contest which I would not expect from the US but definitely not as much as in Eurovision. The songs themselves were good for the most part. I definitely understand where you are coming from in not liking many of the songs, that was my instinct by not the snippets but watching the whole songs was definitely a trip for me.
@@EurovisionwithJudeKennedy We know only 1 Finalist so far Allen Stone of Washington (sorry not 1 of your faves). Will know 4 more this Monday night (US time). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Song_Contest#Grand_final
As a fellow Kvelertak stan I was pleasantly unsurprised that you liked my ASC favourite, Kansas (Tell Me by Broderick Jones) - it's well worth putting on a playlist!
There are a few good songs but I wish there were more indie songs. I think you should just look at who made it to the final so far. Washington, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama so far .
I really can’t lie, the songs from ASC pleasantly surprised me, I didn’t expect there to be so many which I like Some of my favourites are: Alabama - this was such a grower, I love this and e harmonies are perfect American Samoa Arizona - This was so ROBBED. They are my winners of the whole contest and I still can’t believe the juries put them 2nd to last in their heat. I honestly listen to that song every day Delaware - this was such a grower, I really didn’t understand this at first but now I love it Florida - this is just a really big guilty pleasure of mine Georgia - this is such a serve, another song which I listen to Kentucky - such a great voice and the song is amazing as well Louisiana - thought this was ok at first, now I really like it Massachusetts - another massive grower Michigan New Jersey - absolutely LOVED this, still sad it didn’t qualify New York - I was so sad when this didn’t qualify at first, but I’m so glad it made it through Redemption, this is my 3rd favourite song of he whole contest Oklahoma Pennsylvania - I really didn’t expect to like this as much as I did! This is my 2nd favourite song of the whole selection and it makes me sad it didn’t qualify Virginia - my winner of its heat, I listen to this song so often and I still cry at the fact this didn’t qualify West Virginia - great song Some honourable mentions: Indiana - I don’t mind the studio version but the live is… not great Nebraska New Hampshire Oregon South Carolina
Many good songs actually for my taste, but also many I'm not gonna listen to. My top 5 is: 1. Held on too long 2. Natalie 3. Mr. Independant 4. The difference 5. Watch me now I did expect a lot of country music and a lot of songs with latin beats(for example reggeaton beats has been very popular in the charts) and that was what we got, but also some rap and r'n'b, soul and of course pop. I'm glad that at least a few rock songs found their way to the contest(even if they didn't advance from the first rounds).
American song contest and Korean pop music fan it seems they are rooting for Alexa Wonderland to win. Remember in the United Kingdom lakenheath mildenhall alconbury home to American military soldiers in Britain they would have watch parties on American song contest since AFN which is the American equivalent to the British military forces TV carries NBC programmes.
my top 5 worst is Georgia Indiana New Mexico New Jersey and Nebraska my top 5 goes to Connecticut, Kentucky, Texas Alabama and Kansas, i enjoyed Oklahoma Vermont and NY too :) Kisses from Greece
Lol it's not dumb. We happen to be fans of our founding father George Washington. We named our capital city after him after he died because he was modest and wouldn't have liked that happening. Then, later on, when we just kept loving his last name, I guess...and we named a state after him. :)
@@shea8977 Good lord. Fan is a bad word. People respect Washington because of the precedent he set for future presidencies, his honesty, and his humility. It’s a Swedish guy that started the American song contest, he was the former chief of Melodifestivalen
