Hello DVJa. As usual great videos and pertinent info. People should know that progress comes with a price. Alot of people have to change their mindset and stop thinking everything government do must be free.
Julian have you seen the difference between two recently completed highways? The Bull Bay leg & Mandeville leg both from the SCHIP project, one toll & the other not? If Montego Bay need to have well kept, properly maintain highway then it’s a no brainer it has to be tolled. Julian are you aware that there will be no bridge to connect the Dr. Horace Chang Blvd? If you look carefully to the left of the alignment heading north you will see they cutting a path to reroute that road and keep it left all the way pass the batching plant they set up. Thanks for another great update. Looking forward to the pinnacle. 👍🏾
Beautiful panoramic view Julian. Typical of your videos. The toll is well worth it whatever the charge. I never like driving through MoBay anyway. Thanks 🙏 Julian very good work. ❤.
Another beautiful view of work in progress and , sections of that part of the island. Paying a small toll getting to your destination is a small price to pay in relation to time and , vehicle wear & tear , one has to remember also that it is being built a contracting company, therefore , that money will have to be recoup. No problem with toll roads in Jamaica.
I know saltspring verry well i used to do sales man work in these area i also know flower hill well it was a lot of dense hill and gully when you are upon these hills you can look deep down in mo bay
@@dnnyc-cg2fcMobay has many areas that have and well get significant development with well designed buildings (for example, the four 28 storey Pinnacle towers at Reading, tall towers at Montego Freeport and 20 floor hotels at Rose Hall in the form of the Hardrock Hotel)...what say ye to this point?
I have no problem paying a small toll. After all, it will need to be maintained, plus the convenience of avoiding traffic, especially on Fridays and when a major event takes place in Mobay .
I have no problem with tolls the thing is with lots of us Jamaicans we want to see everything free but has no problem go to other ppl countries and pay for the same services is all hypocrisy our country is not rich so I have an see no problem with it and overtime the off road will be fixed
This is not a loan. The government is paying the entire amount. The NROC is the company that will be in charge of the highway. The Chinese are re-known for the building great highways. This will be no different.
I think initially it was to be a bypass, then it made more sense, building four lanes and turning it into a highway. Just like what is being done to the Long Hill section.
I think it’s not unreasonable to pay a toll as long as it’s not too expensive we been paying tolls in other countries so to me development comes with a price ok I really love the great things happening in Montegobay
When this thriple toll road finish we can call it the first wonders of jamaica only a pitty we never have these developments at least 40 years ago we would be now a first world country
The US$274.5-million project involves construction of a 14.9-kilometre roadway to bypass the city. It also includes rehabilitation of Barnett Street and West Green Avenue, a 10.5-kilometre Long Hill bypass road, and a comprehensive drainage study of Montego Bay.
I think paying a toll is a little ridiculous because when they talked about all the planned bypasses it was always indicated that the bypasses would be free and the main highway sections would be tolled. It's the country's job to provide good safe roads to travel on and toll roads secondary. How are they making everything toll before providing proper and safe alternatives? And I'm not necessarily talking about Mobay but majority of the roads in the island are in poor condition. Citizens shouldn't have to pay to drive on every single decent road. Stick to what was said and keep the bypasses free.
The old roads will still exist, most of it, I'm sure. It is your choice to travel on modern highway stress free or to travel on old outdate roadway, wasting time fighting potholes and been miserable.
@conwaywelsh1702 I didn't say the highways I said the bypasses. Did you even read my comment before you responding? There's a difference between the bypasses and the highways, as I stated in my comment. Reading and comprehension are fundamental.
The toll on this highway had better be really low, or many people will avoid using it, with the traffic in Montego Bay staying just as congested as before it was built. For anyone saying we cannot want freeness all the time, do bear in mind that Montego Bay collects a lot of taxes from its taxpayers, and surely enough to fund and maintain this highway adequately.
Sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Who will lose in the long run. Not the government. It's like a casino, the house always wins. Fight real battles like corruption at all levels and not trivial ones, like not paying tolls. Good roads take stress out of your daily commute (life), reduce wear and tear on your vehicle, and at minimum get you there faster.
As long as it's faster, and Safer than struggling through the town. It really just from KFC (across from the Harmony Beach to Fairview part). If you are "in town" not sure if that'll change much.
It’s neither exit or entrance because of the hilly terrain these ramps are positioned at locations where there might be out of control cars so it’s a buffer to stop them
It would be crazy not to. Your commute will be much, much more pleasant. Eventually all drivers will be using these tolled roadways even though they have alternative ways to travel. The richest country in the world, USA, has endless tolled roads.
@@conwaywelsh1702 you are acting as if even in these richest countries like the USA people do not find ways to avoid tolls or beat the toll. So many times the free-use roads remain congested, and the toll roads are underused. We have already seen instances in Jamaica where taxpayers end up with "white elephants" or underused projects due to the government making them unavailable to the majority of citizens. If it is not free or has low toll charges, persons possessing deep pockets, will use this bypass, just like Highway 2000, but a large majority will avoid it, resulting in the congestion staying the same as now.
