Those performances and the way Uncle Clifford was popping that cape when Lil Murda was rapping gave me so much life! The acting, the storyline, just everything. This was a great first season.

1. Why did Autumn go anywhere w/that nut?
2. Why didn't Keyshawn let Diamond kill her crazy white bd?
3. How can Mercedes keep turning down all these fine men? (Esp her neighbor 😂)

Love your reviews! My theory is that Mz Mississippi/Keyshawn pulled the gun on Diamond to save him. In episode 1 when Diamond told her he can take care of Derek for her she said she didn't want another body on his hands. We know Diamond was in the service and has a few bodies on his hands. We also know he suffers from PTSD. I think Keyshawn had his best interest at heart but its just messed up how it played out. You could see the hurt in her eyes and hear the pain in her voice when she told Diamond to stop. Also remember when Hailey went to get the money and she was searching for the gun it was missing, which lets you know Mississippi already had the gun on her, plus she was waiting at the car for Derek and she didn't even know a fight broke out between Derek and Diamond until the gun went off and Gidget ran out and told her. I believe Mississippi was planning on killing Derek at home. Lastly Diamond killing Derek would have been very bad for him. They're in the deep south, a black man killing a white man in the deep south is a death sentence for the black man. I think Mississippi knew that and didn't want to see Diamond go down for killing Derek. What surprised me though is Derek having hands. I didn't expect him to go toe to toe with Diamond in a fight. Overall I'm looking forward to season 2.

I don't think Diamond can have Missisippi's back in the same way anymore. Derek has messed with her mind so bad. I think next season, Diamond is going to take a step back from her and not pay her any attention at least for a little while.
Nawh I think she really like Diamond but don’t want him to kill him and get in trouble. She told him when he 1st offered to kill him she didn’t want him to have anymore bodies on his conscious. I think she gone kill him and get away with him cause everybody know he abuses her.
Amber Williams agreed, because she had Haley’s gun before she knew Diamond and Derek was fighting. I think she planned on killing him in self defense that night. Haley gave her the combination for that purpose. Her killing him and Diamond killing she will get off and Diamond won’t.

Did anyone else notice the mourners were wearing black, the Mayor was wearing red like the devil, and the Hailee/Autumn was wearing white like an angel or savior. Someone mentioned this, and I thought it was pretty ingenious. Costume designers coming through yet again!

Loved the review! This was definitely a great season! As for Nicci Gilbert, I can understand her thinking they ripped her off but what people fail to realize is people develop shows (and inventions) independent of each other without even knowing it because there is nothing new under the sun. Katori wrote this as a play before and researched for 7 years before pitching it as a show. She did her homework. Also, some of the things might be similar because the topics are similar. There are fiftyleven law dramas, cop shows, etc with almost the same content because they’re pulling from things that are common in that field. 🤷🏿♀️
And that's why they told you the show won't return for at least two years.. you obviously know nothing about copyright infringement.. not simply 'similarities'. I'll be honest and say when this was first announced, I thought it was going to be a stereotypical, over-the-top, modern remake of "The Players Club." I thought it was going it was going to be overly sexual, and the women would just be exploited and/or abused. I am SO thankful that I took the leap and was proven wrong.
Katori Hall did such a great job with the script and general structure of the show. I love how it showed so many nuances and dynamics to characters who, in real life, are seen as inferior or "less than" based on their jobs, hometowns, or life circumstances. I loved how each character had goals and dreams, and had unique ways of hustling and strategizing to accomplish them. Season 2 might be far off, but I'm also glad that they'll have the time to plan it out, and make it even better than the first!

Why was Derek acting like he didn’t know Keyshawn was a stripper? All shocked and perturbed.
I think it was more so because it was his first time coming to see her dance according to Gidget in episode 7 . I also think he was salty AF because Murda and Mississippi had that thang rockin she was getting alot of love and attention .
I thought the same about Mercedes but I think she took the advice from Hailey: get another investor to take some of the risks. I guess if she took the money all the risk would still be on her

Also she runs inside saying no,no,no,no like she knows if she doesn’t go in there something bad is going to happen 3.She didnt want that blood on her hands I guess that she felt like if Diamond killed and she watched that would bring her trauma plus that’s her baby daddy 4.Diamond would’ve went to jail for life thats a black man killing a white man immediate life for him plus Mississippi is very racist from what I heard and she cares too much for him to let that ever happen to him 5.She pulled the gun on him to save him because u could see the pain in her eyes and her voice as she cries telling him to stop plus when you look at derrick as diamond is beating him up he looks like if he’s almost dead .that’s why I think she didn’t let diamond kill him.But season 2 is coming out soon
