Wonderful! As an organist, I couldn't resist choosing the horn as my second instrument ( my singing voice wasn't up to much...) Great to see so many youngsters already playing! (and fraternal greetings to anyone at Brisbane Cathedral from your elder sister at Truro, Cornwall, UK - same architect!)
That was awesome! So many horns! We have a similar event, a three-day meetup in Barcelona, organized by the Catalan Association of Horn Players "Associació de trompistes de Catalunya". It's fun!
Things have changed. When I was playing, most of these would be called German horns. French horns had plunge valves (like a trumpet) whereas German horns had rotary valves operated by a lever.
Not sure where you are located but they have always been denoted Horns or French Horns- It’s all about the pitch (F or F/Bb), flare of the tubing and to a lesser extent the shape. Rotary or piston valves not that important.
Earlier this year, I started playing with a hand strap, I've even removed the adjustable finger hook from my 103. Couldn't be happier. I've always hated the stress on the pinky (started playing back in 1996). I really think the pinky hook is not ergonomic at all. And yet, I rarely see any professionals using a strap. What are your thoughts on this?

That is really spectacular so many French horns, wow!!
Wow. Many are talented kids 🎶
Wonderful, well done organisers
Agree totally! Hand strap avoids pains in pinky and up to the neck after prolonged sessions. We need all the help we can get!!

@@SarahWillisHorn 384 Trombones. That's just showing off. How many Sousaphones can you scrape together?

Thanks roadie, I learnt something today.

@@brasschick4214 I was taught the French/German horn thing in music class in England in around 1963.
Do I see Sarah Willis there who's a great player of the low notes ?
beautiful, thank you! 👍 Greetings from Dutch UA-cam music corps channel ; muziekkorpsen - marching bands 🎵🎶🎵
😁😍 Good job Sarah! (Just one question - are all Aussie horn players Caucasian then? Asking for a friend.)

What's with the violinist?

Great music. But doesn't look like winter.
But it is. Temps dropped down from a pleasant 30-35C to a biting bitter 20-21C. Nights are even colder. Brave people those Brissies.
Wasted almost 8 minutes getting started.
So did I. Pathetic.
I thought it was rather interesting. You got a walking tour of Brisbane riverside 😊
