1st January 1988 AD. Yes indeed how good was this version of the national anthem with both Tommy Tycho and Julie Anthony. Plus seeing the World Expo 1988 site at Southbank in Brisvegas. I had three days at Southbank in June 1988. I made it great in 1988.
OK. I'm a Kiwi, but I don't care. I am Ex-Navy and our ship was in Brisbane at the time and we saw this wonderful version of the Aussie Anthem first-hand. When I got home my dear Mum had recorded it, so I got to enjoy it all over again! And whenever I see and hear it the tears roll down my cheeks. And the way the cameras bounce around the country to the main cities, each setting off their fireworks, and finally to little Kingoonya and the husband and wife set off their little tribute too, then the magnificent triple-forte finale with everything in together...WOW!!! Well done!
It made me wish this was the Brazilian national anthem and those were my grandparents who lived in São Paulo countryside. Certainly, the most beautiful scene ever accompanied by a national anthem recording.
Thank you so much for posting this! How could I forget this occasion? This was telecast on the 1 January 1988, to end the special program shown on that day, to launch the bicentennial celebrations. Julie Anthony's rendition of the National Anthem is more frequently talked about at the Olympic Games in Sydney 12 years later, with Australian vocal group Human Nature. But in my opinion, this performance arranged by Tommy Tycho, was more impressive. Once, it ended the ABC programs every night.
I recorded this on VHS on the day.... God knows if I still have it. I CERTAINLY don't have anyway to play it if I do. So thank you for posting it, even if its not all there.
Absolutely devo that the first part of this awesome piece has gone missing... 😢 Such an amazing piece of musical art!!! Thank you for sharing this (*well, the rest of it at least, lol)

Nope. This was a finale from "Australia Live," a satellite telecast that broadcast through all of Australia to celebrate 200 years of its foundation. The anthem was a good way to begin the celebration for a whole year. So good, that ABC had decided to use this version at close down. Basically, it didn't originate from a closedown, but it was picked up to be used to end transmissions for the night.
@@FIstof7LEGEND Maybe so, but what made those particular fireworks so special was that China gifted Australia the pyrotechnics to celebrate the beginning of the Bicentenary.

The fireworks shows weren’t tributes, because the Maestro passed away in 2013. This is probably 1980s or 70s.
@@DukeOfCanberraArchive It was our Bicentennial celebrations in 1988.
The best version of all time is this amazing Australian singer! ¡LIVE AUSTRALIA!
Damn proud to be an Australian!!!!
WOW! This is THE way to honor one's country. Well done!
The couple from Kingoonya is one of the greatest things I've ever witnessed.

Yes this is far superior
@@cappygolucky Nope, she sounds rushed here... Trying to sing it as fast as possible. Sydney was slower and more emotional.
Julie is just amazing! No words to say how wonderful!
We used this version for schools spectacular 2013 - I love this version :)

Do you see the choir? How many singers?
4:18 - The singing of that line was indeed "rich and rare".

Thanks for the Australia anthem beautiful 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
It's so emotional that this version of national anthem is still played annually, and now the Aboriginal lyrics are included.
Julie Anthony is South Aussie 🤠
