Medellin in general is pretty safe, no matter if Gringo or not. BUT there's a huge difference at night. Even locals aren't walking around alone at night in certain areas. If you follow the rule of not walking alone thru empty streets at night you'll be totally fine. :) Enjoy Medellin!

A bunch of this video is on the path of the medellin walking tour on carabobo and real close to botero park. I can assure you many gringos walk there everyday. Hundreds even.
Was in Medellin in August 2018 and walked through Centro Comercial and Botero Plaza. Had such a great vacation. Medellin is a wonderful place. I was alone, never felt threatened but was out walking in daytime. Wonderful people.

La mayoría de la gente no anda caminando con un smartphone en la mano hablando con alguien o simplemente mirando la pantalla, como pasa en otras ciudades. Lo otro curioso es la poca gente mayor que se ve, la gran mayoría son jóvenes o de mediana edad, eso en mi país, Uruguay, es imposible de ver, acá se ve mucha más gente mayor cuando andas por la calle.

That's a tourist area so plenty of gringos. Tour groups everywhere in Botero Plaza. The route you took is not dangerous during the day, probably not so safe at night though. It's not a route most gringos should have to take only because their starting place would not lead them there and secondly most wouldn't know those streets. I've walked them many times during the day no problems except lots of people and crowded at times. Getting off and on the Metro at the park Beriro (sp?) station is no problem and walking to Botero Plaza is safe and just around the corner. Suggest buying multi pass card for Metro because there are long lines at times. BUT it is not a place where gringos don't or shouldn't go. Peace.
More Tourists should visit El Hueco, especially if they are shopping for gifts to take away with them, it is probably the cheapest area in Medellin, reknowned for copies, fakes, but of good quality, although the Authorities are clamping down on these sellers, just be aware of your surroundings. That seemed to be the normal amount of chaos, when I go there, the only time I have known it relatively empty was when it is raining. Good tip from Marwa, carry any bag in front of you, one other tip I would give, is not to accept anything from anyone, I have known people to be drugged following such an event, as the paper was impregnated, just say "Gracias" and walk on passed.
Don't buy fakes or support it, pays for terrorism, drugs, people smuggling etc.
Pay cheap, buy twice.

What brand and model of camera do you use when walking through the streets?. The stabilization is great. Nice video on Medellin ... a city I really enjoy a lot!
I walked those streets for months. El centro is undoubtedly the area with the most crime and muggings, but the vast majority is at night-time. Go there for cheap shopping and fake designer brands at 1/4 of the price during the day, by all means. Just make sure you stick to main roads and watch out for pick-pockets in crowded areas. For goodness sake get out before sun falls! You'll be fine that way. Medellin is a relatively safe city as long as you follow a few precautions. Drink spiking with scopolamine is the biggest threat, really. Get to know someone before you try any food, drink, or - for those who do indulge in that - drugs from others.

Lol, you must be joking... This is typical shopping street in any Latin American country. Trust me, these vendors are more than willing to assist any gringo (should he or she have a problem) who's willing to come down to this area and spend money in their stores.

Misleading Title. it's safe. been there. Of course Gringos walk there I noticed a few in this video, especially when you arrived at Plaza Botero. This place is called (the begining of the video) El Hueco , in the center of Medellin. great shopping, food and street vibe.

I would say if you are just walking and shopping there, there are no issues. But you have to be careful of people grabbing your stuff and running off. I have seen it myself there 2 years ago. What was funny though, is it seems like hundreds of people started chasing the thief and he got caught. If the cops were not there, the guy would have been beaten up for sure. Marwa took had his expensive stuff in a backpack and you can see how he wears it. Walking around alone with a camera like I do is risky. So, you can say it is safe if you want to go there, but it is not recommended to be walking around with a camera out like I did.

Is to much venezuelan people in medellin I can see faces and they are all in the city , that's why you see to many people , any ways for now they are no danger . Medellin have very beautiful places and very beautiful malls , you just show the worst , but I can understand , no everybody can go to spend money in those those shopping centres are very expensive , you was looking for venezuelan guy for 20 pesos wich is like 6 American dollars and like 7 .50 Canadian dollars wich is nothing . That part you were are el hueco , include over there 20 pesos is nothing . I recommended to people to check in internet , different malls in places in Medellin and they going to see the beautiful streets and malls no the worst , any ways thanks for show el hueco . Next time when you have some money go to Mayorca mall or others in you going to see better then American malls .
