There are critics of him and I acknowledge their undoubted erudite opinions, but, to me, Franco was the greatest tenor of the 20th century. No other tenor conveys to me the meaning of the word 'heroic'. He is, tenor as hero, unsurpassed in the power and beauty of his singing.

It's touching to see how he is sooo insecure, uptight and nervous at the beginning of the concert and how he is getting more and more rrelaxed up to a point where he shows his gorgeous smile at the very end, when the frenetic ovations of the audience have reasured him of its great pleasure and of his success.

WOW... I was a student of Jerome Heinz who was one of Francos best friends. Got to know him a little. I’m just gonna come out and say this and I’m sure I’m going to get blasted for it. I never heard another Tenor that could match him on top. Was just huge and piercing and he made it look like it was Ez. The world is waiting for another 6 foot three Tenor with tremendous high notes and voice that looks like James Bond. Probably going to have to wait for a long while though. Franco was a gift and a force of nature. God gave us one Franco… :-) I hope some others can emulate and learn from him.
