  • This Sousa favorite is derived from his 1896 operetta of the same name. And, no, it's not about that peak in Yosemite. El Capitan was a fictional rebel chieftain ordered killed by the fictional viceroy of Peru, who then, in the operetta, impersonated the dead rebel. Frolicking, merriment and romance ensue. Yes, it's that foolish. But it's a great march.
I've scored this for two trumpets, horn, baritone (instead of trombone) and tuba. Once again, many thanks to the U.S. Marine Corps band for their fine Sousa transcripts.
Score and parts are available for a modest price at halleonard.com. Search on my name (Will Corbin) for the entire collection.
