What makes this game so hard is the weird jumping physics. You move slow in mid air while jumping so you have to be super close to the nearest above platform
Yeah, reminds me of Mario Bros physics. You can't change your direction in mid-air. Still gets me because my mind likes to autopilot that it's SMB physics and I do something that I could avoid in SMB, but die in Ice Climber or Mario Bros.

Honestly I think Nintendo should make a reboot of the series, there's potential to make a really fun game in there somewhere, they could make a Ice Climber game in a 3D perspective, I want to see how they could do with a new installment, but Nintendo probably won't do that because this game came out almost 33 years ago. But a guy can dream.
This brought a smile to my face. I used to play this game with my younger brother, probably he was 5. And everytime I left him behind, all hell broke loose.
I'm constantly at work asking the guys over at Nintendo to get me and my wife back into the action for another Ice Climbers title. Vertical platforming is a mostly untouched genre when it comes to the world of consoles, and no one ever plays things like Doodle Jump anyway. I even pleaded to ol' Sakurai one winter morning for him to direct another title in time for Christmas, but he said he was at work making some downloadable thingamajoos. I had no idea what the hell he was talking about, but I feel like he really did listen to me back there! After all, that's what he said about Kid Icarus and his goddess girlfriend. That's his name, right?
This is one of 2 games that I have at home back in the days and my classmates would mock me for being outdated because it was early 2000s and I only have a FC console. But this games makes me happy. I kept playing it until the FC gave up. Happy memories. Thanks for the upload. Salute!

Does anybody remember that love bird game? There were two birds (one on each side of the screen) and you controlled one of them and the other would copy wat ever you do. You had to make them meet up the top to bring them back together. Please someone....helppppp lol xx

Even if you worked together it was almost impossible to make it far in two player mode. You just had to outrun the other guy eventually to progress unless you both had equal skills and timing. =/

I don't care if I completely love & care for blue seals while finding them adorable! I still love having them as the main obstacles in Ice Climber, as well as in the Icicle Mountain stage from Super Smash Bros. Melee!

I never got to play this on the NES, but I've played it through NES Remix on the Wii U and I gotta say that landing glitch is so annoying. And the bird on the top just has it's own life, turns around just before I grab it or I just miss. Well anyways it seems that it can be a lot of fun with enough practice :D

I had an idea. The Ice Climbers should become recurring characters in the Pokemon anime where they are trainers of Ice-type Pokemon or those that could pass for it (like Piplup or Seel). In each appearance they battle Ash. They would be the first rivals of Ash that traverse multiple regions since Gary.
I've never seen this game with the Topi seals (Japanese version) only the Yeti ones (US version) - interesting. Sometimes in the earlier mountains I would purposely wait for the polar bear to hit him like what you did at 12:31 just to watch him go off the screen looking funny. Good job in resetting the score at 31:36, to end up with 1.7 million plus points and still going. Great game play!
I have a question! I haven't played videogames in over 10 years, but I decided to get back into them now and I decided to do something crazy. Since I'm obsessed with time and dates...I decided to play and beat every platformer, shooter, action, adventure, and horror game starting with the NES, then the SNES, and then PS1-PS4. So basically I want to play and beat every non-sport and racing game from 1980-2018 lol I want to play every game by release date, even going as far as month and day. I just bought an NES off Ebay and now I'm wondering...should I start my journey with this game? Since it came out in 1983, I'm guessing it's the first platformer ever on the NES?
You make this game look much easier than it is. The jumping mechanics are atrocious. Not only is the player handicapped by a momentumless short range "high hop" jump, but you clip through platforms unless your jump is well beyond the edge. Even a jump that is reasonably past the edge results in clipping. Such a shame, this game had potential.
