I think mason won't limit himself to 1 thing with that style of animation, he most likely can do this for gestures, maybe water/ocean/liquid stuff? Or something else entirely like that one enemy you showed to us
Every day we get stray further from God, but closer to Hylics 3 so I'd say it's a worthy trade.
The first couple strata-cuts look a lot like terrain so I have a theory that they are going to be seen during battles and the strata-cut animation is going to happen when the object either appears from the front of the screen or, in case in Hylics 3 our player characters are walking towards our enemies rather than enemies walking towards us like in Hylics 2, disappears after reaching the front of the screen
I bought Hylics 2 a few days ago and I fell absolutely in love with the game. Definitely getting the first one after I finish. Being a new fan and already getting cool updates for the next game is quite a treat!
Also yes, please, Mason, please more merch. I need a cute Wayne keychain desperately

Anyone interested in strata cutting should check out the opening credits to the movie 'Freaks', which used this technique heavily to pretty amazing affect.
For anyone looking for this, the movie is actually called 'Freaked'. It's quite a cool use of the strata-cut technique.
I will also give a warning that there's flashing lights / colours in the intro.

The cycles of the moon are long-associated with mental illness and it's also been shown that Gibby (as in the gibbous moon) has a chaotic influence on the world, so I'm guessing that's what Mason is going for.

Hylics often reminds me of the Neverhood Chronicles.
One of the stratacuts kinda look like an explosion of some place
I have to wonder if the stratacut at 15 minutes and the detailed model surrounding it are ultimately going to be different assets. Like, I'd do that? Like, use the solid and detailed exterior for a building or something, but then blank out the grey exterior (since it's in such stark contrast to everything else and so thickly separated from the stratacut art) and use the stratacut for an effect unrelated to the building.
I hope the strata-cut animations aren't for gestures, I prefer the sigil-like designs.

I saw your videos about the hylics iceberg. I found that information myself a few years back and i'm happy that more people get to know it. Now to the beef. I don´t Know if you noticed, but someone uploaded the full Somsnosa game to the Internet Archive. Also, there is a Full Playthrough of Fishing Club in UA-cam already uploaded a few months ago. I hope i deliver good news and it helps you for a next video.

My brain still can't wrap its head around strata-cut. How the hell do you position all the different colored clay stuffed inside the sculptures in such a way that they look like they're moving when cut out?
Mason is a genius. I assume it must take quite a bit of planning and experimenting to produce the desired outcome.
There is a website literally called stratacut(dot)com that has loads of tutorials, if you're interested.
