My husband had a BMW E39.He was constantly needing it fixed. Parts were outrageous plus labor $$$$$! He finally decided he could buy a second house for what the car was costing him and sold it for 1.00!!! Seriously. He had it go into some emergency mode to protect the engine, and he was furious abd DONE. Sold it to a used car lot owner who is a neighbor.
If a car has no engine oil dipstick, then I would NEVERE EVER purchase it. The arrogance of a Car maker that tells a purchaser they are not clever enough to check their oil.
That is so infuriating that a dealership would just throw a $5,500 part at a car when they don't actually know that's the problem. I would sue them. That's pure negligence at best, pure greed at worst. Just one more reason to never buy a BMW.
Mine did that and a private shop sprayed a 60 dollar sensor and it worked like a brand new transmission! Sorry can’t find the bill to tell you what the part they sprayed was I do know I was charged $130.00. The dealer told me the transmission was shot and would cost $8000 Luckily I found a honest shop
Mercedes is the same way. No oil dipstick and no transmission dipstick. The newer ones don't have a hood release that's easy for the owner to find either. Nice.
Call a lawyer and threaten to sue them. The dealership might change their tune. I got a dealership to replace a transmission on my sister's Ford by calling them out on their 21 point inspection and telling them they knew about the problem if they actually did a 21 point inspection. Thanx again Scotty you are a great person.
Fascinating. This is one of the best videos from Scotty Kilmer that I have seen. My eyes became fixated on the rear windshield of his Toyota Matrix. It became obvious that he modified it by adding some kind of (illuminated ?) safety feature. I would love to see Scotty create a video on this. Small car owners need anything that makes them more visible to larger vehicles on the road!
Hey, we bought one of your Matrix 05 , with love miles , everything ! EVERYTHING ! needed replaced other then the low mileage engine , money pits are unpredictable
Sold my BMW years ago and never looked back. Bought it new, had it for 3 years and so many issues. It was all covered under warranty, but the time it took to the repair shop, and rental car, etc... was not worth it.
I have done as much maintenance and repairs to all of my vehicles as I could for this reason. You ALWAYS say to bring your car to a trusted mechanic to check it out before purchasing, I’m 60 years old and haven’t found a mechanic I trust!!!!!! HELP
I'm also a maintenance and repair guy. I doubt a good mechanic has time to go look at a car someone wants to purchase without proper compensation. However, If I were a good mechanic with access to the right information that applies to whatever vehicle as needed, I see an opportunity for a new mobile service that doesn't necessarily include turning a wrench.
My biggest money pit is Chrysler Sebring. I have put over $5,000 into it. As soon as I think I am good, something else fails. Now it's in 2nd gear limp mode. I put in a new speed control sensor on the transmission and it helped it shift better. Now it's something else causing it not to shift out of 2nd gear. I need a Bozkoa to end its misery.
Nice job Scooty. Unmasking these dealerships that only outside swaping money out of clients. It is sad to pay 1000s of dollar for a crap and they don't even are resposibles for this. Keep helping people. Thanks God still good mechanics like you outside to show true about cars.
Another great analysis, Scotty, thanks. SUV..? Not sporty at all, not a great deal of utility, either. I guess they wouldn't sell so well if they were called clumsy, heavy brick vehicles.... An estate/station wagon carries more, is better to drive, easier to park and you can see kids from it!
I had a neighbor that had a Chevy Traverse AWD with a 180K on it. It was making all kinds of noise form the rear end and the shop wanted thousands to put a whole rear end in the car. I went over a looked at the car and pulled the AWD fuse and said there you now have a FWD car not AWD any more. Fixed the problem, no more grinding noise and cost nothing. This AWD in a car is a joke in my opinion.
It did read something wrong with the 12v battery. I'm sure you've seen weird issues with a battery that's going bad. I can't imagine 7 years, but still worth a look.
the X3 is the most reliable BMW on the road for the last few years according to a bunch of online reports and testimonials. One youtube said his 2022 X3 only cost him $40, for every 1000 miles traveled. That is cheap as hell for a luxury vehicle.
Don't buy or finance a bmw- but if you really like it and have the dough, lease it for 3 years. That goes for many other car models conjested with technology or just overall bad quality.
What, are you deaf? Scotty just said more than a few times in no uncertain terms that the damn car doesn't have an oil dipstick or transmission dipstick. THAT is NOT a decent car!
You gotta watch those dealerships. They like to stick it to you whenever they can. And don't get me started on those extended warranty companies. They'll do whatever it takes not to pay. For a repair like you didn't do this. Or you didn't do that. That part's not covered.
As Scotty mentions millions of times: Avoid 4WD vehicles at every opportunity. Once gremlins start on modern 4wd drivetrains, the money pit really begins.
Correct me if I’m wrong Scotty but although u probably found the issue with that transmission shifting like that for that long more than likely caused a lot of damage u can’t reverse unfortunately
German vehicles are fine..... for about 5 years! If you don't mind losing a huge amount of value during that time and insane routine maintenance costs and sell it at around 5 years, you'll likely never have an issue. They are status symbols, that's it...
I still say that the Dodge Journey is the Biggest 💵 pit no matter what year it is cause how you put a 2.4 cylinder engine or a 3.6 liter engine in a vehicle that's big n that's just one/two things out of many things that's wrong with the way that it was built, don't get anyone mad while driving cause you'll get caught 🤦🏾 😭
The bloom is off the BMW rose. I have 2 older BMS (1976 2002 and 2003 530i) which I love. But no dip stick no sale is my feeling. Mercedes is about the same. These manufacturers are building cars for those who can afford to lease, not for the enthusiast.
@@majoritynote Yes, could be part of the transmission shift sensors malfunctioning. Also: If the car was in a wreck, the traction control sensors can be an issue if they were damaged. A pinched wire from a wreck could cause problems with the transmission as well as the battery / alternator current.
I think they went back to dipsticks. I have a 2013 Benz E-Class, and it has dipsticks for the engine and transmission. My 2005 C-Class did not have a dipstick, but apparently, you can get one for it, and they call it a service stick for $175 at the time.
Dealerships are scumbags exactly like Scotty always says! If that didn’t fix the issue they should have take the car back & figured out what is causing it and fix it at no cost seeing how she paid that much money & didn’t fix the issue !
