    Thank you for mentioning Taylor Swift. She is very much the same. Sticking to a formula that works for the fans, doing nothing to push the needle sonically and artistically. Her latest album TTPD is evident of that. The criticism towards her album (and to some degree her whole discography) is similar to the criticisms made towards Drake's discography in recent years.

      @@ks_wallace2324you’re not a musician. You make very little sense. You can’t revolutionize a genre every time you release an album. Those moments are rare in music history. People have a personal style and they can perform within that style for as long as they choose to. No one gets mad at jazz musicians who chose to mostly perform standards. Not every jazz musician is concerned with atonal harmonic approaches and no time or key signatures, as jazz musicians in the “free jazz” space does. And that’s fine. If the music is sincere, performed well, and good, then that’s all that matters.

    • @KExKE
      @KExKE 5 місяців тому +12

      @@dfwherbie8814That’s a great point, and Drake’s music is not sincere or good. There’s a difference between having a style and doing the same thing over and over again. If I were to take another artist like Kendrick for example and I played a song of his from 2012 and then a song from 2022 you’d be able to tell that there is a clear progression and that these songs were recorded in different eras. You could say the same for Cole, Eminem, Jay Z, etc. Despite having a style, they can still evolve as artists. If I were to play you a song from Drake’s last 3 projects you wouldn’t be able to tell they were from different projects because there has been no progression in artistry. You don’t have to revolutionize the genre, but you should be trying to push yourself if the art actually matters to you. I don’t think jazz musicians who only play standards is a good comparison here. Those are people who have respect for the art and want to keep the classics alive vs a guy who has no respect for the culture that he bloodsucks and rides other peoples waves to remain relevant.

The so-called biggest star in hip hop has a fanbase where most of his fans are not even hip hop fans. That wasn't the case with Run DMC, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, Fat Boys, De La Soul, NWA, Kid 'n Play, A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Biggie, Tupac, DMX, Eminem, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, T.I. I’m 10 seconds in, but Drake’s debut album was NOT take care. It was technically Thank Me Later. His breakout debut project was So Far Gone, which was a “mixtape” that dropped in 2009. Btw it’s not fair to solely pick on suburban white kids; suburban black kids are just as disconnected to the core cultural tenants of HipHop. For example, a Dominican from the Bronx is more part of HipHop than a black kid who casually listens to rap from the suburbs. This is about culture. Not race. It is not our place to strip drake’s blackness. lol btw, that Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def clips is exactly what Kendrick was referring to when he said that drake makes music that “pacifies them”

      Bro Drake is a Jew he was brought up outside the culture and thats a fact. Dominican people have their own culture, so why would they be closer to hip hop than a suburban black kid who literally is primarily around black culture. Even if u grow up in suburbs you have some uncles/cousins in the culture being directly involved with that on a day to day. Dominicans have a mom and dad that speak spanish so they have another culture they are familiar with and can fall back on. That black kid the culture is literally his. Its all he knows.

    • @dfwherbie8814
      @dfwherbie8814 5 місяців тому +3

      @@TheChosenLifestyle you’re conflating general black culture with HipHop culture. HipHop is a countercultural movement, a subculture of black culture, that is now it’s own thing. HipHop culture =/= general black culture, although it often times converges, especially since it’s roots are originated in urban black NYC culture. But there are some black ppl (black Americans) who don’t identify with HipHop. A Dominican from the bronx, who engages with HipHop daily, was raised in HipHop culture, is more representative of the culture than a suburban black American kid who casually listens to rap. As I said, Kendrick’s critique was about culture, not race. There is a reason when Kendrick was talking to Adonis, he referred to him as “BLACK.” Yall trying to offload your biased baggage onto whatever Kendrick’s message originally was. But that wasn’t his point.

    • @TheChosenLifestyle
      @TheChosenLifestyle 5 місяців тому +1

    • @dfwherbie8814
      @dfwherbie8814 5 місяців тому +1

      @@TheChosenLifestyle what’s this obsession over mothers, bruh? Is it because you didn’t have a father growing up? That saying “you are what your mother is” is nonsense, and has no scientific backing to it. So I don’t care about that. As far as the Dominican kid, I’m talking about culture. If they engage in HipHop culture and from the birthplace, than they’re more in the culture than a black kid who’s doesn’t listen to HipHop like that. What part of that don’t you understand? Do you even know who Cold Crush is? Do you know who EPMD is? Or Ultramagnatic MCs? What about Hieroglyphics? Do you know one MF DOOM song?have you listened to a single Rakim album? Kool G Rap? Geto Boys? Organized Konfusion? If the answer is “no” to most of these questions, then even you are not knowledgeable as non-black HipHop heads. Which is a shame, considering how much you’re huffing and puffing your chest over the race angle.. c’mon now bruh. Get it together

      He won't.
      Black ppl aren't the largest consumers of music anyway. Not even close.
      "Palatable music" for the masses is what sells.
      Purist Hip Hop IS NOT A COMMERCIAL PRODUCT. White people don't eat to hear about getting g the sl@v3s freed.

    I’m not exactly trying to defend Drake but hip-hop has been notorious for being misogynistic specifically towards black women, so why is it a problem now all of a sudden??

  • @Otherlevel51
    @Otherlevel51 5 місяців тому

    1. One hit song from drake and everything is forgotten. And Drake makes Hit Songs more than any other rapper alive.
    2. Hip-Hop become corporate during 50 cents era remember he made 150 mill from just vitamin water.
    3. Drake is a product of hip-hop, from Nelly, JaRule, 50, Lil Wayne, JayZ he is the end result of Hip-hop commercial dominance.
    4. If Drake was married women wouldnt hate him. Drake a Victim of being Rich Male & Single while black.
    5. The industry hates Drake because he keeps winning, Universal gave him a 400 Mill deal while they have to fight for streaming scraps.
    6. Every reason people hate drake all the other rappers do the same sh*t, like I don't understand, there nothing he does other rapper aren't the only difference is he got an army of hits behind him.
    7. People say protect women, but when Drake says Kendrick did some DV all of a sudden no one cares.
