One of the best prog metal drummers I’ve seen he plays with tony mcalpine , and was one of the drummers who auditioned for dream theater when portnoy left
Aquiles is so underrated, he's frickin' amazing, his footwork is outstanding. His new band is called Hangar, they're pretty good and he uploads their videos on his channel. He also toured as the drummer for DragonForce, check out his cover of Through The Fire And The Flames, he also did that cover on Paiste Cymbals' channel.
underrated? Aquiles is one of the most successful drummers of our time. Not only a top level, high-skilled drummer but also a very successful businessman, he has his schedule full for months ahead, also he is very requested for artists worldwide. Hell, he even got kicked from Angra because the other guys feared he was bigger than the band itself, since the fans shouted his name more than the band's, given how big his playing and stage presence is. Aquiles is a real monster and in no way he is underrated :)
@@sittaman I mean underrated as in he doesn't get many reactions or suggestions from viewers. Nicko McBrain, Dave Lombardo and Frankie Banali were big influences on me in the 80s and 90s and I'd like to see more reactions and suggestions to them too. I'm well aware of how good he is.
@@ll7868 yes. it is its current band since the 1990s, with a hiatus for his Angra years. let me plug my band's video. you might recognize the kit I use ua-cam.com/video/OAM2t8sbibQ/v-deo.html
Had the pleasure of seeing him live a drum festival with Danny Carey from tool. Got to me aquiles that day as well. It was the first time he used this drum kit. It was made for him by mapex for his LA home. It was so cool to chat drums with him that day. He was nervous using it because he didnt have a chance to play it before the actual show. He used a different smaller kit to practice beforehand.
Nice to see you back man, proud to see Aquiles here, nice drummer, nice guy, got some classes whith him. would be nice to see you react him playing "Some light to find my way" from his other band Hangar
He was actually born in South Africa but raised in Brazil. You should definitely check out Angra's current drummer Bruno Valverde. He is a beast and plays hard using traditional grip
Good to see you back, Garrett. I missed you! If I may, a request. I know it's a long one, but Aric Improta's drum solo, entitled "Blur Lights in the Videodrome", is some of the most amazing drumming I've ever seen in my life. Nothing compares to that solo, if you have the time for it. Even if you just check it out on your own time and don't make a video on it, it's worth the journey.
As a more digestible segment of his craft his attention deficit drumming series would probably work best. Although I'd watch a whole reaction to Blur Lights in the Videodrome.
Could you do a video explaining the differences in need of clean play between metal and Jazz? The history and why some of the differences in genres are what they are and how that gives the genre its feel.
lol Hansi was credited as Guitars in the opening, I didn't notice and heard the opening vocals and was like, wait is this Blind Guardian? Anyway, Priester is a very talented metal drummer. Super fast. Cool kit too
Actually Aquiles kills it in this record, the rythm section is madness in this album (Temple of Shadows). He quit the band after one more record and it's not been the same since then. But, we got this killer one!
To be fair i think this album was the peak of all members that recorded it. Nothing that came after was THIS good. Not to say that their work is bad by any means, but everything after is sounding more and more generic to me.
@@kelvinmartins I agree. But, for example, I'm not a fan of their first singer records. But with Rebirth and then this one, they MADE IT, then formation changes, more changes, new singer, new drummer, new drummer, Loureiro leaving... not the same anymore. PS: btw, if you haven't check guitars solo record, Bittencourt Project- Brainworms I. Not very similar, but qite enjoyable.
Angra is speed metal, power metal is Maiden, Priest etc. Aquiles replaced Frankie Banali (RIP) in WASP in 2019, he recently uploaded a cover of Chainsaw Charlie from The Crimson Idol. WASP is power metal but the drum tracks have been speed speed metal since Frankie joined the band on The Crimson Idol. They work well together.
Now if you want to see the same stuff played with traditional grip, go check out Bruno Valverde, he's the current drummer for Angra. He's out of this world. Temple of Hate is a good example if you want to have your mind blown
Hey man. Did you stop with Snarky Puppy after Lingus? I know you did some Larnell reactions but I never saw any more Snarky Puppy and so I hoped you checked out their other stuff. And if not, then I'd love to see a reaction to 'What about me?' think you'd really dig that.
had to check this video out elsewhere because it was quiet. cool song, it reminded me that he was one of those chosen to audition for the Dream Theater job when Mike Portnoy left. I thought his audition was great but not a perfect fit for the band.
Source audio not loud enough. Heard, chef!
So what fancy new IEMs did you get yourself?
el estepario siberiano next please 🤘😋
Angra is power/progressive or melodoic metal. Glad you finally reacted to him cool reaction.

Hangar is his original speed/prog metal band from the 1990s with a rather lengthy catalog, even prior to his stint with Angra. Glad you like them!
@@MauricioMagaldi The band reformed, it's his current band. Their latest album is 2016's Stronger Than Ever.

"Put that doobie down."

I love that ride! Pierce through any metal guitars in small venue.

REACT TO 'THE SHADOW HUNTER - ANGRA' from Aquiles. You will love it
The one dislike is a cop who heard the word “doobie”.
That guy was at a Steve Hofstetter show

Check Bruno Valverde playing "Angra - Magic Mirror", Bruno is the current Angra's drummer and he's also a jazz drummer
Good stuff Garrett! Glad to see your channel doing great!!
Lovin the new setup broski. Glad youre back.
He also toured with Tony McAlpine for a couple years absolutely amazing videos
Aquiles’ footwork is so metronomic and he always hits with power. The music was a tad quiet in this vid Garrett.
YOOOO!! I've been wanting to watch watch you react too this god for a long time
You make us laugh with your incredible commentary! Thanks for the great vids.

always happy to see you in action!
It's nice to see you back.

@@6ic6ic6ic Yes, this. I just love Blur Lights so much that I think everyone needs to experience it.
Yes its power metal Aquiles is the best there is right now
Too bad he's not with Angra anymore. He was the only reason I still listened to Angra after Andre Matos left the band.
Mgla - Exercises in futility V Darkside drum cam dude is briliant drummer
Gratz on your second kid!
You should take a look at "Angels and Demons" drum video. That's just insane!
“Big beeeeefy drums.” Yes. 😂😭
Chris Allison playing, "Glass Bead Game" by Plini
MoRE volume !!!, this is heavy metal !!
Welcome back!!!
Hard to hear the drums in this one but still a cool vid. Def appreciate you opening my eyes to a bunch of crazy drummers. Happy 420 brother!
Video way too quiet dude. Also first time I’ve seen you pause a video halfway through! Good to see you back x
lol I spent a little time in isla Vista in 98 myself. not going to college of course....that fuckin tom? was bad ass. BOOM!
This was fun to watch, yeah, looked like he only hit that big bastard twice! There was an identical drum on the other side of the kit tho, right?
O melhor ❤
"Is that a flurry???" Lmaoooo dude, good to see your stuff again
Could you do a video explaining the differences in need of clean play between metal and Jazz? The history and why some of the differences in genres are what they are and how that gives the genre its feel.
Aquiles' backbeat is legendary. He will *never* not hit that snare on 2 and 4.
hit THROUGH the snare!
This is power metal at it's finest! :)
Hey Garret, I checked your channel and it seems there is nothing on Morgan Simpson from the band black midi. They have this great song called 953.
This guy is a machine...
The video was very quiet but as per usual the same informative reaction.
Cheers dude.
We need a video of you playing drums
Aquiles was Eloy Casagrande's drum teacher for double bass. It shows.
LOL, fun video, thanks dude!
that right most hardcore sounding drum feels like bass drum converted to a floor tom. thomas lang did that in one of his video showing off his new kit
Dude, you gotta give a listen to Chris Turner - Triggered with Thomas Lang. Got my mind blown.
cool
Hey Garrett, good to see you’re back! You should check out the drum play through of the song Jurassic|Cretaceous by The Ocean 🤘🏻

Yes, Hansi did this intro vocals on wings of destinstion!
Let's see your reaction to The Art of Dying by Gojira. I'd love to see if you can figure out the time signature for the intro.
The stuff he wrote with Hangar is so much more exciting
Check out Paul Seidel from german ProgMetal Band The Ocean Collective :)
