This same thing happened to my 2009 528i. Serpentine belt got shredded, I replaced it and other problems still arose. Cylinder 4 misfire and a mass airflow error. I took my valve cover off and guess what, shredded serpentine belt pieces were caught in my timing chain.. I removed all the shredded pieces I could see and am in the process of putting things back together now. Hopefully everything runs smoothly when it’s put back together. I’ll keep y’all updated.

@@kyleocean5445 yeah so in all the mess, I replaced an ignition coil and my electric water pump died on me so the car was over heating. Got the pump replaced and everything runs relatively smooth. Just have some stuttering when the car starts up but it drives for now lol. I switched out the mass air flow sensor and still have some stuttering issues tho.

*NEW SUBSCRIBER : This is great.* Why is YTube only suggesting your channel to me know ? Great presenting ( very natural in front of the camera ); great lighting; great focus pulling; GREAT editing. And of course very interesting content. I've "dinged the bell", so hopefully I'll be watching more of your great videos.

Happened to me at the worst possible time imaginable. I was on the interstate coming home during rush hour bumper to bumper 3 lanes of traffic. There was accident ahead. I was sitting idle completely surrounded for like a mile. Then the belt snapped and I could not go anywhere. Sad to see that car go. It was my 3rd BMW I had owned. I worked for. Dealership at the time. They inspected and showed me what happened and that I was really f-ed on this one. Ever since my fist E36 the problems only got worse with each new model E30 (My dad's I learned to drive on (5 speed) the autobahn. Then my own E36 (perfect car), E46 then an E90. So after this I was done with BMW. I went to Lexus and Nissan. Lexus coupe and a Nissan Truck. Bros and Women don't walk up and compliment me on my car anymore but; so many less headaches,

That's why you inspect the serpitine belt anytime you open hood and replace every 50 thousand miles a lot cheaper to replace belt than to do this

Yes much easier to inspect the belt...

Hello Morgan, it depends on the damage that was done. This one had minimal damage (the engine was still good) and it was still an expensive procedure. You have to remove a lot of components to access all the belt fragments. This kind of job starts off at $1,500.00 and goes up from there. Assuming that the mechanic is removing all the necessary pieces, like oil pan, valve cover, timing cover.... Is it a 4x4? Lots of variables in this job. I'm available for a phone consult if need be.

Something similar has happened to my Audi Q5. 2k for time belt replacing. Car couldn’t start. So mechanics quoted around 5.6k to open the engine and do a similar procedure. Also have the option of buying a new engine which I was quoted 11k . Installation is 1.6 around there. But likely found a reconditioned engine for mid 6.5 k. Not including installation and transport fee. These are Australian costs.
      Advice. Check your serpentine belt.
      Don’t do what I did

Im sorry but he wasnt lucky, yes lucky the motor didnt blow, but the worst case scenario as far as the belt going into the motor instead of it just breaking and shredding , it did go into the motor and im confident you're charging him an arm and a leg for this job, so dude is not lucky at all, as the belt did go into the timing belt etc, so you should rephrase your words and say it the way it is.

Hell yeah he wasn’t lucky at all.

I mean the owner could have kept running his vehicle until he blew the engine up? Instead he took it to the shop and got it fixed… lol
