I hope you get an opportunity to react to Aretha and Ray Charles live (1973)on a variety show sing "Ain't But The One!" First, it is a GREAT PERFORMANCE but they were filming for the show. When the audience starts to clap because the sign comes on, it is to que the song to end for the commercial break....BUT Aretha caught the HOLY GHOST and kept singing! LOL They tried again but Aretha had the spirit and didn't stop again! IT WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PERFORMANCE! I'm sure you'll enjoy!
You tickle me. We used to get together and react the same way you’re reacting to Aretha’s music. Frfr. It’s really a treat to listen through really good headphones
Great you did this one, certainly one of the more impossible vocals ever sung in a recording booth. Three Bb5's in a short span. And to think she probably improvised most of it!
Are we sure it's not Brenda? I looked it up and from what I found it says this was recorded in 70 or 71 and I think Brenda started singing with Aretha at that time.
@@arethasD6belt I thought this was after the Sweet Inspirations period as well, but also really heard Cissy's voice on here so looked it up and only could find "suggestions" it was her, but you could be right. I retract the "absolutely" haha
Great choice for a reaction. The cd notes say that the song was recorded in January 1971 and the backing vocalists were Carolyn Franklin, Erma Franklin, and the Sweet Inspirations. By 1971, Cissy had left the Sweet Inspirations although that doesn't mean she couldn't have done some sessions with them at times. The lady who replaced her, Ann, had a very different sound. I'm inclined to think this could be Brenda doing the high part but I can't swear to it.
On the 'cover notes' it has > Recorded Jan 27, 1971 - Background vocals > Carolyn & Irma Franklin and The Sweet Inspirations - Cissy Houston was part of the Sweet Inspirations for a good while . . .
This was recorded in 71. IMO, I'm 98% sure this is Aretha's cousin Brenda singing soprano. She sang soprano on Aretha's albums and live throughout the 70s and 80s. There are videos of Aretha singing live during this time (look up her singing "call me" in concert 1971) on UA-cam and her cousin Brenda is hitting the same soprano notes as heard here and it sounds the exact same thats why I think and believe this is her and not Mrs. Cissy Houston.
Where are your Patti LaBelle reactions?🥹 Please react to her rendition of Since I Don’t Have You in the 70s since you’ve only reacted to her 80s and later performances

I prefer both Vivian and Aretha on this song, despite Melba's succes with it. Vivian's tone works very well for that smooth arrangement, Aretha made it her own the most and that mix is crazy here.
Yes,it was a big hit for Melba Moore back in the 70’s, but back then I only heard Miss Moore sing this song which was good, but just like respect, the Queen 🤴 made this song her own 😊👑
No one can emote through song like Aretha. Even Whitney simply said, "You can't describe it, you just feel it."
There'll never be another Aretha. Thank the Lord for her wonderful recordings.❤
The Queen breaking all kinds of high 🎶 notes on this song displaying why she is the undisputed Queen of Soul, all hail the Queen 🫅 🔥👑💥
She truly inspired so many vocalist, I hear so many current artist in her voice here

Aretha can sing anything
Very true!!
Still waiting for your live 1993 “I never loved a man” performance and her live 1971 Montreux “Call me” performance reaction!
Aretha was on fire definitely 😩 and that had to be Cissy Houston her tone is very unique and the arrangement sounds like hers soprano loud and strong
Thats actually Cousin Brenda! We oughtta give Cousin Brenda her flowers!!!

On soprano is definitely Aretha's cousin affectionately known as "Cousin Brenda"❤
Queen of soul! Still miss her
Will never forget her.
God, I still miss her
Forever
Same babes

And it was only a b-side!

I'm glad you reacted to this song. Aretha sang her heart out. And yes that was Cissy singing Sapprano.

The Sweets Inspiration doing Background..Cissy Houston, Mryrna Smith, Estelle Brown and Sylvia Shemwell
Yes, that was Cissy. It's that same voice that you also hear on "Ain't No Way" from the Lady Soul album. Much love to you sir.
At 2:44, it reminds me of Beyonce in "Yaya"... its a similar transition... Tina Turner comes immediately to mind but now, hearing this, it's Aretha.
💪🏼💯🔥
Yes that is Cissy Houston in the background!
🙌🙌🙌
Sometimes that high head voice was her sister. Wasn't always Sissy Houston.

Aretha is all that, but this song belongs to Melba Moore. ua-cam.com/video/ywuAi7xNRzk/v-deo.html
