- In this video we're having a look at the Omega X Swatch Collaboarion: The Moonswatch Speedmaster. The modeI I managed to put my hands on is the Mission to Pluto. It looks good but is it worth all the hype and attention that's being getting worldwide?

Exactly, the $260 are not for a high quality luxury watch, a Swatch chronograph retails at around $100-$150 I think. This one is a celebration of loving watchmaking and something that everyone can participate in. It’s Swatch being Swatch.

Celebrating watchmaking doesn't mean making a watch with a sourced cheap disposable movement from eta. The watch too is also disposable once it breaks since you can't even repair it since the crystal is fused to the case making it impossible to open without destroying the case. Anyone who's a real enthusiast would not buy a disposable watch. This is a watch you give to your children so they'll start liking watches but it's not for real watch enthusiasts. The movement itself is very faulty with the hands not even aligning.

This is the first Swatch watch that ever interested me, and also the first watch that had buyers lined up far in excess of the supply. That's pretty amazing. The one in the video is the one I like best. When they are available at the regular retail price, I will probably pick one up.
I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger future collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.

I will get all of this collection! I love the concept of bioceramic case, non-cruelty strap, useful mechanic and I LOVE exploring the Universe!
I personally wouldn't mind the quartz movement at this price point but the plastic build is a big drawback.
I love mine, so lightweight and easy to wear. I did get a new strap for it, Etsy has some great moulded ones that hug the case and look original. The crystal scratches, but who cares it's a great watch for vacations or the gym or any place you'd hate to scratch or lose your real omega.
For the money I think this will definitely meet my expectations. Hope to be able to pick up a mission to the moon for myself and a mission to Venus for my daughter that I’ll hold onto until she learns to tell time

I’ve been an Omega fan for years now. I have several vintage pieces and of course also the “real” Speedy.
This MoonSwatch is not supposed to be luxury. As far as I can tell, the only people getting bitter with it are the people that buy a watch as a status symbol and not for the passion of collecting time pieces. It’s a genius marketing move. Giving young horology enthusiasts a starting point. This inevitably will put Omega in peoples minds who maybe never even considered this brand for a luxury time piece.
Omega flipped Rolex the biggest of birds with this. I love Rolex as well, but their scarcity game is very off putting and frustrating.
This one will definitely become part of my collection once it’s available online.

And still think this moonswatch is a crappy watch.
Spend the same amount of money elsewhere and you get a decent watch that will last you a long time.

For me I'll take a ceramic polyamide composite before a heavy steel watch. I like the watch to be light as possible. Omega and Swatch have hit it out of the park.
I’m drawn to this color variation, so thanks for showing the Mission to Pluto in great detail! Nice to see that crystal from different angles, too…love the distortion from the side profile. I was impressed that the chrono seconds hand appeared to hit its markers!

I kind of like how light it is, it’s not a serious watch and nor should it be… it’s still backed by Omega but it’s fun and satisfies any itch I’ve had for a moonwatch without the pretence or the price tag, a success

I went to buy this watch yesterday at my local Swatch shop. I loved the color, and I agree it honestly looked great on the wrist. But it was very uncomfortable to wear. And its weight made it feel incredibly cheap. Ultimately I decided to skip buying it, and I decided to get something much more wacky from Swatch :D ... I bought the "The Purity of NEON" Swatch instead (model SB06W100). It's one of the most insane watches I own now, and I absolutely love it

BTW the swatch website says the Moonswatch is NOT limited edition. There will be more. You don’t have to wait in line for hours to get one. Without the urgency I am looking forward to collecting them all.

The hands should look like they where dipped in glue and then powdered sugar...
I’ve had a Speedmaster for around five years , and I had a Seamaster as well.
I sold the Speedmaster and gave the Seamaster to my son when he graduated from university with his degree .
At present I have the Bulova moon watch which David Scott wore on
Apollo 15 and I love it!!!!!
I went up to Swatch on Covent Garden
on Thursday and they had none in stock, but they had some examples of them but not for sale, they looked good and they are what they are a celebration of a style icon ,I’ll wait for them to come on line and buy the moon watch Swatch …..

I lead an average life in an average job with 3 kids and a mortgage to pay.
So, no I don’t have the cash lying around to get myself a Speedmaster.
True value to me is in Japanese watches, where you can still find innovation and affordable high technology.

Of course you can get a “higher quality” watch for $270, the point is you pay this for the Omega brand which is a steal. Everyone here is crazy for hating on this amazing watch 😂

In a German watch channel a leak claims that the cost for one moonswatch is around $2.50. What a value for the money.

Ok so after a few days on the wrist a couple of thoughts.
- I have this one (Pluto) and it really looks the part. Small thing - but I find the mini dials very hard to read - as it’s black on burgundy. So something like the Mars version would be a better bet for visibility (with the links to original omega designs I think Moon and Mars versions are probably the pick.)
- the strap is a grower - it’s softening up and a pretty nice colour (in the Pluto variant at least.)
Pluto is my favourite buy they really should have made all the subdial hands white.

That is a great color combo and I like the idea of the ceramic and plastic body. But yeah that bit on the strap looks horribly uncomfortable. Easy enough to replace a strap tho. What type of strap do you think you would replace it with?

YES, Imran. Exactly. People pretend that they would never pay for anything that was not worth the money. Yet, they will pay $10 for a hot dog at a baseball game or $25 for a waffle breakfast while on vacation.

I never really liked Swatch watches and considered them similar to the old Mickey Mouse watches. This one does interest me, though. I liked your no-nonsense review which does point out the good and not so good. I would probably throw the strap away and get something a little more comfortable.

NASA style straps are always bloody uncomfortable. From the moment I saw the Moonswatch rumours I thought, "If I ever get one of those, it's going on a NATO immediately..."
For less than half of that price (115€) I just got a Seamaster Planet Ocean homage from Pagani Design, PD-1679, with sapphire cristal, brushed/polished high quality 316 body, real ceramic bezel, Seiko NH35A mechanical movement. Stunning 🤩

@@TheBoldHairspring I watched that video. It was already good but now this is V2, with improved bezel action, strap that doesn't fray, more simple hands (that I prefer) and improved lum. It's a real killer now for that price.
Over 1 year later, the watch was never available online. Swatch on this knew what they were doing (did they they hire a Rolex rep or something? 🤡)

just got my first one, a Pluto. Unlike the speaker, I found the watch incredibly comfortable right off the bat on a 99○ F day in July. I love the looks, but find the black hands on the subdials very hard to read. Dont worry Omega purists, it doesnt look at all like a Speedy.

Have you noticed any colour leaking from the back of the watch? Random Rob noticed that his Neptune Moonswatch was staining his wrist, blue. Further, other youtubers have confirmed that at the very least, the Neptune is leaking colour from its back. Even here in Singapore, that has been noticed, and social media is full of stories about the leaking issue.
I didn't spend long enough with the watch to verify it . I doubt this colour will leak but there are lots of reports confirming that the Neptune leaks.

Unforgivable that chronograph timer seconds hand doesn't hit the markers......
This Pluto looks like an print error. Printed sub dial is missing lower section pink…which it is the only model got dual color sub dial…..Swatch quality control certainly is a concern.
Lightweight is not low quality. And ceramic polyamide is not plastic, it's a strong designer composite used in many industries including firearms. Many channels talking down this watch without reasonable consideration. It's Lightweight, durable, accurate, water resistant, low maintenance, reliable Swiss quartz, Omega authorized Speedmaster. Not a homage, not a replica. An Omega authorized quartz Speedmaster. Affordable, practical and Speedy. To me this is the best Speedmaster to date. Especially the mercury in back and dark grey.

Worrying - I have now seen several videos with concerns about quality. Maybe they are rushing these out to meet demand and QC is not up to scratch (!) Not good for Omega's reputation. I hope to buy one one day but I think I will leave it until the panic dies down.

Not even counting the insane prices these things are going for on eBay, they are way overpriced. I was initially intrigued but not for a retail price of $270 USD. A plastic Swatch with a low end quartz movement, acrylic crystal, and throw away Velcro strap just doesn't justify the.price tag in my book.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a watch snob by any means, and if people want to buy one once they are available again because it will bring them joy, I say go for it. I just hope buyer's remorse doesn't set in when they realize they paid $70 for the Swatch, and another $200 to get the word Omega printed on it. Personally at that price, I'd go with something like an Orient Kamasu, it's a whole lot more watch for the price.
You could get a solar quartz watch with sapphire crystal for cheaper than the moonswatch.

@@jiv32 Exactly. A couple of weeks back I picked up both a Citizen Eco Drive pilots watch AND a solar powered G-Shock for only a few bucks more than the Moonswatch costs at retail price. I'll probably never own a real Speedmaster so I'd buy one of these as a fun collectable/ casual beater, but only at $100 or less

@@jiv32 you can, but what if like me I don't want an orient kamatsu. I already have omega watches that cost more than a stainless steel speedmaster. I have Cartier etc in my collection. I doubt i would ever wear an orient kamatsu. I would However buy a moonswatch because its different, unique, and fun. And it's cheap af. What's the problem.
I had been waiting for these to become available online or at least, an announcement of that happening. In an interview published today with Swatch's Creative Director, a comment he makes sounds like that might not happen. (despite what the website says). "Ultimately, it comes back to the tactile. “In a moment where so many people are speaking about NFTs and digital projects and immaterial ownership, this is so physical that it’s not even for sale online,” Giordanetti concludes." Is he stating that in the present sense, or does he mean that this will be a permanent part of the marketing strategy? The case material and the crystal are both different. I agree, the dial does look fantastic. Would like to see with a different strap.

By any chance, does anyone have recommendations for watches with similar color scheme as the mission to pluto moonswatch ?
I’d replace the bracelet with a nato strap for look and comfort.
I have the same model and have a couple of issues: 1) the watch is hard to read at a glance, since the hands aren't that easy to distinguish from the dial and there is no lume; 2) the build quality is so-so, with the hands not aligning well with markers, much worse than say an inexpensive Timex or Swatch.

This watch brings back painful memories and I couldn’t bring myself to buy one after witnessing the chaos during launching day here in Singapore. People started queuing from the night before from inside the mall. As soon as the shop opened for business, everyone rushed in without a care in the world. I witnessed a male teenager intentionally tripping the girl in front of him and senior citizens being pushed aside to make way for the crowd behind. The most painful part of the experience was watching a young girl get trampled over repeatedly because she tripped over at the entrance. When the police went through the CCTV surveillance , they counted 17 people had unintentionally stomped on her head and I was one of them while many more grazed over a body like a floor rug during the rush. She fell into a coma due to severe head injuries and she’s still in the nursing home up to this day. If you take that into consideration, I guess the Moonswatch costs SGD337 or a person’s future.
Both Omega and Swatch have been losing market share to Apple and Fit bit. The solution sell a watch with a production cost of $10.00 for $260 at 2500% Markup. That said I do like the look of the mission to Mercury - I did think about getting one- but no not going to pay a 2500% markup for anything. Great marketing have to give them credit for that!
You are exactly right. This is a perfect marketing move that made people queue up to pay $260 for a plastic disposable watch.
For same money you can buy similar style watch that is nicely made, stainless, saphire crystal. You could give it off to your children :) Just look at Festina ceramic, Roamer modern classic or Delbana retro moonphase.
It’s Omega just as much it’s a swatch. Omega put its name on it. It’s not a homage, fake etc. it’s the real deal and it’s a speedy just as much as its steel sibling. It may be cheap so you just buy another one since its not a limited edition. If i had $6k to spend, for me the Speedy is not on my top 10 to buy, but since it is at such amazing price…Adding this fun moonswatch to my colllection would hit that spot and scratch that itch for me that i would not have the need to get the more pricier steel version.
For me it’s just a swatch with Omega logo and look, but not an Omega at all. It’s like a Mercedes A200 with the “AMG kit”, or the BMW 113i with the “M pack”.. they look like a real AMG or M series cars, but they are not. If you think you are getting an Omega, you are dreaming!
Mate please this is not a Speedmaster. It is cool but the materials are bad just like the quality. It is legit but to me it's just a very nice move from Swatch. Even 250 euros is too much for what you really get.

It is a Swatch watch with an Omega design. A nice toy. If you want an entry level Omega, get ready to pay $5K for a Seamaster 300M. An amazing value for what you will get.

A Stainless Steel Mechanical Seiko or Orient is far better and longer lasting than this Plastic Moonswatch....This one is definitely not worth more than $150

It has some lume but it's very poor. It doesn't last at all.

All in all, it's a cheap plastic watch. Could buy a nice automatic Seiko for that price. Still, if it gets people into watches who weren't into them before, then they certainly serve a purpose.
How long the battery lasts doesnt actually matter, since Swatch is renewing it for free!

2 decades ago, i bought a swatch chronograph with rubber strap. It looked great and I must have spent about aud120 for it. That watch died on me some months later. Can your imagine paying eur260 for the moonswatch and it dies on u later, without any option of repair?? Food for thought.

Technically, it is an Omega. Put it on a NATO, right away (19mm not 20mm or the strap will fray over time from rubbing on the edges of the lugs). They look great, especially the dials. I have to laugh at jokers saying that you can get a better watch at the price and listing their pick of shitters. Buy it for the look and the fun of it and don’t sound like a fool complaining about alignment of hands and other nonsense.
No one would buy this if it wasn't for the Omega colab. The more I see and hear of it, the less I desire one... i'm pretty sure that i'm not in the minority here.
I only own an Apple Watch, an $11 casio and one of the Swatch Skin Irony models, so I’m not really a watch person or anyone who’d ever invest in luxury watches… but I do think the Moonswatches look pretty neat. I wouldn’t mind getting one once the hype dies down
It's possible it's just not for you either, no two people share matching interests, once they're available online I plan to get one just for fun and a stepping stone to the Bulova Lunar Pilot I want to get later on

@@TheBoldHairspring Just wondering what it looks like bacause among all the Moonwatches available, this is the only one that is painted black on the indices as well as the hour, minute and seconds hand.
@@jonathanchiu575 I reviewed a zelos with a fully lumed dial and black lumed indices. The indices were fading away very quickly. I wouldn't expect much from the Swatch either. It'd have been interesting to see though 😔.

Citizen Chronograph Super Titanium Eco-Drive is 10 times better for the same price. But if someone loves plastic 😆
All I can say is skip this and buy the Pagani Design PD-1701, with and excellent, reliable Seiko mecha-quartz movement in it!
I want to see lume performance on the pluto due to its blqcked out lume
