Bates reels are made extremely well. My dad who is a retired machinist of over 50 years was impressed by the real just by looking at it. I have two Hundo’s and I’ll never give them up.. that drag system is like music to my ears.
Great content and tips. I enjoy watching these type of videos best. A bit of lecturing about the approach and tactics used and some live footage of it actually being done. Makes me want to get off the couch and get the boat ready for an adventure tomorrow. Thanks Capt! Appreciate your dedication to teaching.
Wow CA you change brands more then I change out underpants 😂😂😂 ( JK JK ) So I'm assuming completely done with Shimano ? What spinning reel brand are you going to next ? Also does Bates have a casting reel that's similar to Shimanos DC ? I love casting reels but I love DC reels because it eliminates headaches
Your show is definitely always entertaining and interesting , well done ! I am thinking it is going to take a 24" trout to place in the upcoming CCBA tournament . Are you going to be fishing this tournament ?
Ken unfortunately I will be filming in Texas that week for another episode of Flats Class TV. But there are some big specks between Ozello and CR for sure!
Hey Capt, what net is that and does it float? I need something compact but with a little bit longer handle than my current net for kayak fishing. That looks like it’d be perfect
I have so many rods and reels for every occasion. My wife would (and does) call it “obscene”. I think it’s a tool for every job. And sometimes 5 or 6 different tools for each job. Still, for trout im a massive fan of the Shimano Aldebran bfs with roro spools and bearings on a 6’8” jackson Light w/ Fast action trout rod, and a Stradic FM on a St Croix Avid Panfish. And my Loop 7X 5wt. That’s my real go to.
Just started the video and may not have time to finish right now but I looked up the Hundo real and Fitzgerald rod and that combo is very $450. Yikes! Now, I am more guilty than most on spending a ton on gear but that’s a bit much for most. Maybe you discuss other options later in the video or offer some insight on why it better than rigs costing half as much. As always, I enjoy your content so keep it coming.
Appreciate your candor and support of the channel Bruce. We do have videos that promote affordable combos, but this video is more about quality and performance. And the longevity of this equipment lasts the user for a lifetime (no plastic or pot metal)… which makes the cost more reasonable
@@flatsclasscharters thanks, you’ve a great resource as I try to learn about saltwater fishing. I do appreciate buying quality equipment. In bass fishing I’ve found that Lew’s reel in the $150-200 range hold up very well for me. Granted saltwater adds more wear and tear. I’d also suspect you need to spend a bit more if you want to throw lighter lures with bait casting gear.
Short answer absolutely NO! I have found that you need to have a minimum of an 8000 size reel and an XH action rod for sure to handle Gags and/or tarpon.
Ok i understand but in your previous videos from the past year you talked about the Teramar XX MH 7,6 Xtra Fast could i throw the same lures ( swimbaits and 5 inch zman jerk shads ) on the Shimano Teramar SE with the same specs?
Man... i mean i get youre a well established pro fisherman, but i wish youd ever test or recommend rods and reels that i wouldnt need to take out a second mortgage to afford lol
Anyone else see on Bates website they are slightly misleading when boasting “designed in Texas” but also saying something to the effect of materials from and assembly in “PRC” as in People’s republic of china… why not just openly say made in china.
Yes! Just say made in China. They even go as far as having an American flag above the fine print of engineered in Texas, with globally sourced parts, and assembled in China. I got to say I immediately don’t trust the company bc of that.
Stopped watching at the point you said you'd had the reels a few weeks. I'd rather know about reels you've had a few years. Not much better than an unboxing.
I can share with you I have used my clients Bates Hundo which is over a year or so old and it’s still flawless… it’s what sold me. Also I had one of my Bates accidentally get drug into the salty depths because it was left unmanned and the trolling motor caught the line and took it over. All I did after we eventually retrieved it was take freshwater and rinse it… that was 3.5 weeks ago and it’s had no ill effects. Just sayin’
Also Captain CA probably does more fishing in 3 weeks than most of us do in 3 months, and any professional in their field should be able to tell a quality product very quickly based on prior experience. A chef knows a good knife the second he picks it up. Just an observation, no disrespect. 😅

Yeah, Buddy and his team at the Bates Fishing Company do some incredible workmanship… love their brand and their commitment to excellence

Daniel sending you some positive vibes to catch them up this weekend buddy
Love the videos!! Been learning a lot. Keep them coming.
Thank you for your support Jason 👊🏼

Excellent tip on rod length and using a shorter handle when fishing twitch/walk the dog baits. A long rod handle is always smacking your forearm. 👍
And for some of us that long handle gets caught up in our shirt! Especially on those windy days…

CA, what’s your opinion on the Medium Vs the Medium Heavy, Versa spinning series for Trout?
You’ll like the 7’2” MH Vursa better I promise!
Wow awesome video
Thanks for watching!
Got the hundo and put it on the 6'8 waterloo medium for corkys and oh myyyyy god is it light. Went with 10 pound braid and it casts a good 120 foot
😮 like hearing that from our Texas fans… y’all know Bates first hand!
@@flatsclasscharters yessirrr glad you are on the train with them hope yall are having a blessed sunday

Another great video!! Happy Birthday Blondie!! Will they offer replacement hooks for the Mulletron LT? They are definitely a great lure!!

All very true… both observations
Quick Question! Will a 6k Saragosa with a Shimano Teramar South East MH 7,6 Extra fast be goof for grouper and tarpon fishing throwing big swimbaits?

The Teramar Series isn’t as crisp as the XX series it’s a lot more parabolic (slow). You would definitely need the XX for sure
@@flatsclasscharters Ok but doesnt it have a extra fast tip for good hooksets and far cast ?
@@flatsclasscharters also what lures do you thibk i would be able to throw with the teramar SE MH 7,6 Extra Fast
Sarge Custom Rods is where its at. You wont find another rod that compares once you fish with one.
Happy belated birthday!
What’s the boat you and your wife use, my husband is interested. Tell her I said happy birthday ❤ thank you for the dope content my friend
