I read through these comments and you delivered a sound biblical message. No one wants to be the one that refuses to acknowledge their actions as sin.

The verse he uses says if a brother sins against you, not sin in general. Where did he get "yearning for accountability?" The Bible says that there is therefore now no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus. My account has been paid in full. When God looks at me, he sees Jesus who represents me. As He is, so are we in this world. I am accountable to no one but God. And God's word says that my account is settled. I am forgiven.

“If a brother sins against you …” Also, where is the Biblical command for “church membership?” I’m not talking about being a part of the Kingdom of God through Christ. I’m not talking about fellowshipping with other believers. I’m talking about church organization membership.

It's easy to say our sins are bought and paid for. They are. However, that does not mean we are not to be accountable. The Bible also says we are to submit to every ordinance of man - authority. That, in itself, is another example of accountability. You plan to walk through life in sin against others and expect others to dismiss it, because God's forgiven you? The speaker isnt presenting the relationship between you and God, but you and mankind. Keep in context.

I just confronted my pastor of progressive teaching. It's getting into the church I'm going to and my pastor said "What's progressive Christianity?" He played dumb, like he doesn't know. I know he knows!

I appreciate the intention. You are correct Biblical accountability in implied/inferred from the scriptures (given the nature of the Christian life and our role in the local congregation) , however you are mis-using the text. Matthew 18 is specifically talking about someone who has committed a sin and it's unrepentant. It's about church discipline. Its different from accountability.

In Christianity definitely are not accountable for your actions. Because if you were than jesus died for nothing.claiming Jesus died for your sins means your not accountable for your actions as they were paid for the sacrifice of Jesus.

Repentance is required for forgiveness. Jesus absolutely holds us accountable for our actions.

The reason Jesus died was to pay the sin debt I owed.
If I didn't owe it, THEN He would've died for nothing.
MY actions caused the need for a penalty to be paid.
Jesus paid that for me, not because I wasn't responsible, but because I WAS.
