  • When it comes to choosing a type of blown insulation for their home or attic, many homeowners, and even insulation contractors are unsure of what is more effective: cellulose or blown fiberglass insulation.
This video quickly shows how HEAT passes much more EASILY through blown fiberglass than cellulose. It recreates what happens in many homeowner's attics during our hot Pittsburgh summer days (with the effect being the SAME, but in REVERSE during the winter). And also explains why we at Insulwise get so many calls to help homeowners who already have 12, 18, even 24 inches of this stuff already in their attics. Both air, and heat, seemingly pass right through it!
When you factor in that it's easy for contractors to "fluff" blown fiberglass when they install it (accidentally or not), opting for the cellulose is a no brainer. Yes there is a bit of dust during the install, but it permanently settles within 3-4 minutes, and a sheet or drop cloth placed over the attic access prevents it from coming down into the home.
Cellulose insulation is the clear winner in performance over blown fiberglass! Also, take notice that when you see a comparison where fiberglass comes out on top - it's always a professional "plug" from a manufacturer. Never from a guy like me who earns a living by making people's home's more energy efficient and comfortable -- or else he doesn't get paid ; )
    Enjoy!
