Take away peoples ability to earn money but dont freeze rent or other expenses. Act surprised when most of the population falls into poverty. If the politicians had to go without money they'd soon change their tune.

Everywhere on the planet feel the same I'm in Egypt and I have a catering company We used to supply Schools , Weddings , Corporates events like conferences and trainings etc , Our sales dropped by more than 85% I kept paying my employees for 6 months from my own personal savings because they are valuable to me ,they r my team and they started with me from scratch , I had to apply for a loan to keep paying their wages but eventually i had to let half go and i feel heartbroken ever since , they have families and kids .. I'm on the edge of Bankruptcy and fighting day to day to keep floating but everyday it's getting harder no matter what measures I take to stimulate the sales . They should have isolated those most at risk (over 65 yrs a certain health problems) and let the rest of us go on with our lives and careers...to SURVIVE. Most of the true at risk population were people already retired anyway. For young healthy people it is no more dangerous than the seasonal flu....once you subtract all the bullshit data.

I feel for the distress of these people, but coming from Eastern Europe, it's also weird how some of the comodities that these people mourn the loss of would be regarded as luxury back home (size of living space, the furnishings, the views etc.). It highlights the difference in where various societies draw the line between poverty and decent living. Also reminds me of a post-comunist era joke about what various artists asked for as comodities at a concert venue. Famous singer X from the West asked for cristal glasses with Champagne and dozens for expensive orchids in her room. Group of famous singers from Eastern Europe said it would be great to have running hot water at all times!

They talk about having to get jobs as delivery drivers and social care workers like it's a bad thing. I have been a Tesco driver for 15 years and never considered it to be scrapping the bottom of the barrel until I see videos like this. Also my work load has increased ten fold because everyones staying at home and not going to the supermarket but my wage remains the same and in a couple of months time most of these people will return to their well paid jobs but everyone else will just carry on as normal.

I worked about 14 hours a day and most weekends in around 7 years at Tesla. I always loved cars. Having the opportunity of living and working in California was part of my dream job/life.
But I could barely see my family, had no social life and always stressed about my bills.
Few weeks ago, Elon Musk (Tesla CEO) got in a single day, a 15 billion dollars increase on his wealth. Not saying he didn't deserve that but about 97% of the people working there, hated their job conditions, worked way more than they suppose to work and never got compensated for any overtime.
Always working on impossible deadlines, so we could show up handsome on every Tesla Launch and looking good for his followers and shareholders.
Better paying or at least getting paid for working extreme hours, should be a least a way to share the wealth with people who also made his success possible.
In the end of the day, his company wasn't an one man company but we got free Redbull at least.
Predatory Capitalism doesn't work. And it is turning Capitalism into Socialism. I never seen so many small business or workers, seeking for social programs or Government help as we see now. Difference between classes are growing in alarming rates. And most likely, middle class will be a "thing" of the past. Kind of what we see in documentaries or history books.

Once people get back to work they need do not go back to their old ways of spending and start saving.

Published 4 months ago, October 10. Tell me you don't see this happening right now in Canada.
"LPC Strategic Committee LeakInboxLPC leaker: On Saturday, October 10, 2020 1:38 PM,
      Dear Removed:
I want to provide you some very important information. I’m a committee member within the Liberal Party of Canada. I sit within several committee groups but the information I am providing is originating from the Strategic Planning committee (which is steered by the PMO).
I need to start off by saying that I’m not happy doing this but I have to. As a Canadian and more importantly as a parent who wants a better future not only for my children but for other children as well. The other reason I am doing this is because roughly 30% of the committee members are not pleased with the direction this will take Canada, but our opinions have been ignored and they plan on moving forward toward their goals. They have also made it very clear that nothing will stop the planned outcomes.
The road map and aim was set out by the PMO and is as follows:
      - Phase in secondary lock down restrictions on a rolling basis, starting with major metropolitan areas first and expanding outward. Expected by November 2020.
      - Rush the acquisition of (or construction of) isolation facilities across every province and territory. Expected by December 2020.
      - Daily new cases of COVID-19 will surge beyond capacity of testing, including increases in COVID related deaths following the same growth curves. Expected by end of November 2020.
      - Complete and total secondary lock down (much stricter than the first and second rolling phase restrictions). Expected by end of December 2020 - early January 2021
      - Reform and expansion of the unemployment program to be transitioned into the universal basic income program. Expected by Q1 2021.
      - Projected COVID-19 mutation and/or co-infection with secondary virus (referred to as COVID-21) leading to a third wave with much higher mortality rate and higher rate of infection. Expected by February 2021.
      - Daily new cases of COVID-21 hospitalizations and COVID-19 and COVID-21 related deaths will exceed medical care facilities capacity. Expected Q1 - Q2 2021.
      - Enhanced lock down restrictions (referred to as Third Lock Down) will be implemented. Full travel restrictions will be imposed (including inter-province and inter-city). Expected Q2 2021.
      - Transitioning of individuals into the universal basic income program. Expected mid Q2 2021.
      - Projected supply chain break downs, inventory shortages, large economic instability. Expected late Q2 2021.
      - Deployment of military personnel into major metropolitan areas as well as all major roadways to establish travel checkpoints. Restrict travel and movement. Provide logistical support to the area. Expected by Q3 2021.
Along with that provided road map the Strategic Planning committee was asked to design an effective way of transitioning Canadians to meet a unprecedented economic endeavor. One that would change the face of Canada and forever alter the lives of Canadians. What we were told was that in order to offset what was essentially an economic collapse on a international scale, that the federal government was going to offer Canadians a total debt relief. This is how it works: the federal government will offer to eliminate all personal debts (mortgages, loans, credit cards, etc) which all funding will be provided
to Canada by the IMF under what will become known as the World Debt Reset program. In exchange for acceptance of this total debt forgiveness the individual would forfeit ownership of any and all property and assets forever. The individual would also have to agree to partake in the COVID-19 and COVID-21 vaccination schedule, which would provide the individual with unrestricted travel and unrestricted living even under a full lock down (through the use of photo identification referred to as Canada’s HealthPass) .
Committee members asked who would become the owner of the forfeited property and assets in that scenario and what would happen to lenders or financial institutions, we were simply told “the World Debt Reset program will handle all of the details”. Several committee members also questioned what would happen to individuals if they refused to participate in the World Debt Reset program, or the HealthPass, or the vaccination schedule, and the answer we got was very troubling. Essentially we were told it was our duty to make sure we came up with a plan to ensure that would never happen. We were told it was in the individuals best interest to participate. When several committee members pushed relentlessly to get an answer we were told that those who refused would first live under the lock down restrictions indefinitely. And that over a short period of time as more Canadians transitioned into the debt forgiveness program, the ones who refused to participate would be deemed a public safety risk and would be relocated into isolation facilities. Once in those facilities they would be given two options, participate in the debt forgiveness program and be released, or stay indefinitely in the isolation facility under the classification of a serious public health risk and have all their assets seized.
So as you can imagine after hearing all of this it turned into quite the heated discussion and escalated beyond anything I’ve ever witnessed before. In the end it was implied by the PMO that the whole agenda will move forward no matter who agrees with it or not. That it wont just be Canada but in fact all nations will have similar roadmaps and agendas. That we need to take advantage of the situations before us to promote change on a grander scale for the betterment of everyone. The members who were opposed and ones who brought up key issues that would arise from such a thing were completely ignored. Our opinions and concerns were ignored. We were simply told to just do it.
All I know is that I don’t like it and I think its going to place Canadians into a dark future."

To all my brothers and sisters in the UK - my heart goes out to you. Hang in there. As an Aussie who spent a year studying in Reading, I feel a great affinity for my UK compatriots and despair at the health and economic toll the virus is reaping there.
Thankfully, Australia seems to have avoided the worst of the pandemic and our economy is doing OK (not great, but ticking along) so it really upsets me to see hard working people ending up having to sell their cars and motorbikes (hardly a luxury item) and reduced to tears just because employment opportunities have dried up.
I am not preaching or, heaven forbid, gloating - but if NZ and Aus have one lesson to teach the world - it is go hard and early on lockdowns. We're freedom loving people and had to make some sacrifices, but on the back end (hopefully) we are enjoying many more freedoms now, with only occasional lockdowns to put out brushfires. And for Christ's sake, will people start listening to the experts? Yes, they are fallible and can be wrong. But they've served us well in Aus and the proof is in the pudding.

I don't know if you are Americans (I am an American), but in Europe, or Germany at least, it's so cheap to lease a car that most people don't buy cars. They lease cars. So people drive around in expensive cars that they don't pay much for. It's not cost effective here to buy a car because the emissions and other government standards make so you almost need a more modern car because older cars are too expensive to maintain at high enough levels when it's time for inspections. It's not like in America where you buy your car, pay it off, take care of it, and drive it till it drops. That's what my folks always did and still do. I was really shocked to find out that you don't ever get rid of your car payment in Germany. And my German husband was stunned by all the old cars in America, like in Russia. So you can't assume in Europe that someone is being money stupid by their car the way you can in America.

I lost a 4 bed, large house and have ended up in a (lovely!) 2 bed maisonette, away from my home, where I can afford the rent because its Housing Association. It's less than £400/month when open market, private rents are £650 for the same place. I had to move miles to get it but I could.
HOW are people going to cope now? No job, no money for a mortgage, being kicked out for lack of payments and nowhere to go? We were on 4 Months Level 5 Harsh Lockdown. Only Black Owned Companies & Black People were assisted Financially, NO Whites. Hundreds of Businesses owned by Whites had to Close after Decades of being in Business, & most probably had 80% Black Staff Members. We now have 60% Unemployment, Millions Starving. At the beginning of Level 5 ONLY 250,000 Food Parcels were given to Destitute Blacks, NO Whites. Thousands were stolen by ANC Officials for their own Families, or they sold them. Sick sick sick!!!
We have just started our 2nd Wave. We are still on Level 1, but ½ the Beaches in the country have been closed during our Main Holiday of the year, because of the Spike in Numbers in those areas. Fortunately our Local Beaches in our Province are Open for this Holiday except on Public Holidays like today, over Christmas & New Year.
Times are Very Tough here especially because of all the Corruption in Government which has left SA Bankrupt. Even Overseas Relief Funds have been Stolen. In our Province the Money Allocated for Extra Hospital Beds & Personal Protection Equipment has Disappeared.
My Husband's Pension reduces by R2,000 a year & we just can't live anymore.

@Human RealmAre you talking about the low interest rate so it wouldn't be worthwhile to save because any savings will be crushed? Yeah... Maybe there is a sense in that...
Like I have said to my friend - formal British education to the general public doesn't really teach you the most important essence of the economy and some of the most important things to living in a modern society. It doesn't teach you the financial vehicles available, how to pay (or avoid) tax, how fractional lending works, WHY there is an inflation, what are good and bad liabilities. Nor does it tell you what money and CAPITALism really are.
It's not only to put a few pounds aside. You have to invest your money and turn that into a capital that works and earn for you! Some people will always look for the lifestyle they want and then make excuses so they could revolve their money around their lifestyle. Unfortunately, reality will always does its own things and all that truly mattered all along was their capitals.
Yes... Money is just a unit of account to represent energy and other resources but they are categorised into positives and negatives. Cycles or dead ends. A car can be used to make even more money or it can be consumed and depreciate.
I know this sounds silly but I consider my investments as my "avatar" in a financial sense - Pokémons if you will. Unless, it is capable of earning as much as me, then I need to live even MORE frugally to "feed" more into the avatar so they could evolve and level up.
Unless I have a capital that serve me, then I will have to BE the the capital and use my time, energy and skill to survive. And the truth is that I am not worth a lot in the grand scheme of things.
It doesn't mean I have led a boring life neither. I only lived frugally during the start of my career when I accumulated my first cache of munition. Once the dough is in the oven and the gas is on, I was able to adjust my lifestyle accordingly.
Unless people start looking at and understand the rules, they are very likely to lose the game.

Time is fluid depending on your frame of reference compare to speed of light, BUT a more diluted portrayal of reality like Classical Newtonian Physics is still taught because they are relevant and useful. English and geography are man-made concepts and they are taught to students.
The point is that there are some elementary knowledge and skills that is VITAL to maintain the freedom of the individuals and long term prosperity of a collective, like personal finance management, that is not taught to all the students.
You can maintain a philosophy ground on what education should be, but is it really preparing the young people in navigating society properly?

And what about the 1929 stock market crash and the decade long depression that followed. That was the worst but our ancestors survived it. And the decade after the depression was one of the most prosperous decades for America. So there is no reason to be so gloomy about this. Furthermore, a vaccine is now on the market and should be available within the next 6 months. I think we will be out of this before you know it.

Big shout out to those of you who didn’t spend money on high finance cars, didn’t get a bigger house than needed and have always accumulated savings.

Hits definatly hit everyone. Without a doubt. Savers, mortgage free people, (probably not as much as others) renters etc.

hows that savings of yours holding up? You saved an entire year worth of expenses? Where's that all now? Or you're a trust fund baby and "saved" your money. Not everybody makes enough to even have a savings, even living in practical squalor, and this has royally fucked many people. Big shout out to the total dickheads who think like this guy!
