    Been low carb for 6 months... my goal is less than 25 grams a day... never felt like I was in Ketosis, so I never feel like I am out of it. No testing except for my diabetes daily test. Lost 60 lbs in six months. Off all my meds but one for my heart stents.

    The easiest way for me to find out if I'm kicked out of keto is overnight weight gain of 4-5 pounds. In the presence of carbs your body retains water again.

      Weighing yourself every day, right after peeing in the morning is probably the most useful tool besides straight up measuring ketones. Your weight loss will be fairly consistent, even though it might stall a bit here and there. But yes, if you see a sudden jump in weight phenomena it's probably water retention due to getting out of ketosis.

    I've got a bunch of fat to lose. I did keto and IF for 9 weeks, and added exercise 3 weeks ago. I noticed towards the end of that 9 weeks on keto I wasn't measuring ketones which I figured was because I became fat adapted. I also thought maybe it could be my body got too used to it.
    So last week I went off keto and ate at maintenance. I ate really bad. I started keto again this week and today (day 6) was the first time I registered ketones again on the urine strip. I lost 4 lbs from my weigh in two weeks ago. I know this isn't directly related to this video, but I saw another where you mention taking breaks and I want to thank you because I think it really helps. In the past I've hit plateaus and become frustrated and gave up, but when I saw I had lost 4 lbs more even after that horrible week, it felt good. I feel a lot more in control now. I wouldn't have been able to so easily go back on keto after that week off if i didn't have it in my mind that the week off of keto was actually a good thing and part of the long term goal.
    What has also been helping me is not weighing in as much. In the past when losing weight, I used to weigh in every week, but eventually I would end up having a really tough week where it was a struggle to keep going, but I did it, and was so proud for sticking through it. But then I get on the scale and I'm up a pound or something, and that would break me and send me off track. Now, as long as I track calories so I know I'm doing what i need to do, I weigh in every few weeks or so, just to guarantee I see that number go down to help me with the mental aspect.

    Being pre-diabetic, it's so hard to recognise when it's working, because I'm normally thirsty & peeing all the time. But, hunger has all but disappeared. Wish there was a flare that fired off when you reach a ketogenic state! 😆👌

    i was allergic since i was a child, in older age it got worse, ambrosia killing me, pumps, cortisol. started keto in june, lost 20 kg and did not sneeze more than 10 times for the whole ambrosia season. amazing and much welcomed "side effect" of the diet.

    Requesting a video from you about the best way to PURPOSELY come out of ketosis. You've recommended periodically taking a break from keto to increase your metabolic flexibility. I'm concerned about my body reacclimating to carbs again and how to not go too "carby" and/or what carbs are good to eat without being inflammatory (ie: wheat bread). Thanks in advance and for all the great info in your videos!

      Eat a lot of protein and fat, which refills liver and muscle glycogen enough to lower ketone levels. The next day you should be in low ketosis so you're not insulin resistant and thus can consume carbs.
      The other method, I use this all the time, is eat sat fat+ protein 30+ minutes before a meal. This time period actually allows you to safely break ketosis (eating anything breaks ketosis when you go over a certain amount of nutrients). Then you should be able to eat carbs without fear. However, I would slowly test your "flexibility" there before jumping right into it

      Try eating sweet potatoes. It's won't spike your insulin like bread

      Start with low glycemic carbs (i.e. Sweet potato, squash etc.) As well as resistant starch(i.e. Cassava, green banana) Graduate to higher GI carbs at a rate that feels comfortable for your body.

    i kinda struggled doing keto at first but not long after figured out how i was in ketosis by my breath specially wearing a facemask ! my visceral fat is slowly disappearing and my overall health is for the better !

    For the LMNT the ratio of Sodium to Potasium is 5:1 when the RDA is 1:2. Same issue for Mg. If one is going to pay that much for an electrolyte suppliment, shouldn't it be in proper amounts?
    What do you do if you're out of ketosis and you're consuming less than 20g carbs a day? Am I eating too much protein for gluconeogensis?

    I've been on carnivore for two weeks. I've been super faithful to the diet I have not slipped up. I went down a pants size. But I have absolutely no symptoms of being in ketosis 😵‍💫

    1) Not urinating as often
    2) Mild dry mouth kind of goes away (in turn not drinking as much water anymore)
    3) Start getting hungry again
    4) No more fruity breath
    5) Brain fog
    6) Irritable (moody)
    7) Allergies return with a vengeance

    So what do we do? Remain on a strict Keto diet for more than 45 days because it's not sustainable? Or have brekker like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper? Do we continue with intermittent fasting of 16 - 18 hrs or fast on alternate days? Do we cut off carbs totally or have it for 1 meal. I'm kind of confused.

    After starting keto i noticed i peed less, but when i start to pee more out of the blue, then i think hold on a min, am i slightly going out of keto. Other things include going a bit moody and a big give away, is my knees starting to hurt (my knee pain stopped with in a few day of starting keto). And i've never really been that thirsty since starting keto. Thanks for the vids :)

    Didn't 44 hour fast and broke it with bean soup and a few refined carbs treats. Very limited. I'm plant based, love my carbs, so am curious how my body will respond to 55 grams of net carbs. Total CHO is 99 and with 44 grams of fiber with total intake of 770 calories. Wanting the fruity breath again.

    I had scary MS symptoms for about 10 days and decided to stop keto. Jumped into it ~3 days later and have no keto flue symptoms. I also gained weight. Weighed 5 lbs less before REstarting keto. Can it be due to not drinking much water? Isn't coffee a diuretic? I do try to drink a glass of water after my coffee. I eat raw cabbage salad with other foods in it - 1-2 eggs, mushrooms, nuts, ~100 grams homemade dry cottage cheese, ~3-5 spoons oil. The salad is worth 700-800 calories. And before the salad it's MCT oil coffee=100 calories. Why am I in the plateau?

    Headache is a dead giveaway for me! Every time I’m kicked out I get a headache from hell when I’m trying to get back in. I also get some weird blur with my vision and definitely brain fog!

    I pee 7-9 times a night even when obviously dehydrated. I drink a minimum of 2 quarts of water with a bit of salt and potassium. I cut myself off at 2p. My prostate is fine. Every body is different.

    Thomas, I've been reading that a simple fix to keto rash is to increase protein intake. It seems to work for me 75% of the time. Not sure when it fails if it's because I need more protein or just the source of the protein. I used to get keto rash 1-2 times per week. Now it's once every 3 weeks.

      Emily from keto twins gets keto rash and the only thing that relieves it is bumping up the carbs a bit (still in ketosis) - she has found for her that only when she in deep ketosis does the rash appear.

      Apparently the rash is to do with not having enough bile vs how much fat you're eating or excreting (makes sense it happens more on fasting days due to losing fat quicker). Taking bile salts fixes it, you could try drinking ACV 15 minutes before meals or on fasting days aswell, that alone may correct it as it increases bile also.

    How do seasons affect ketosis. I find when it starts to get cold I don’t drink as much because I’m not sweating as much. And I’m barely able to take in much more than a quart.

      A 72 hr fast will definitely put you back in ketosis.

    Ketosis may not be the goal for some people using keto recipes. I’m more low glycemic inclined to lower my a1c. My doctor does not recommend keto as it is high fat. I see many keto influencers that are about weight loss. It would be great to see focus on low carb for better health. Jus sayin

      Some people do. Some don't. I counted early on so that I had an understandingn of how much energy i was consuming. In the beginning, I could not trust my hunger signals to tell me when I was truly hungry, I got hunger signals all the time, so it was better to track calories. These days, after over 3 years, I'm able to feel true hunger and then eat until I'm satiated.
