      That's because Peter Jackson filmed all 3 movies simultaneously to ensure continuity of the trilogy. I'm glad he did this because most directors would shoot films individually and then release them, but by doing it this way the film's continue the vast epicness of middle Earth.

    I love that, ever since he nearly touched the ring at 0:19, Gandalf's mind has clearly been racing, like he's going, "No, this can't possibly be _the_ One Ring that has been missing for 2,500 years. Surely, it has to be impossible. It has to be." And then he spent the time traveling to Minas Tirith fearing that is was the One Ring, only for his worst fears to mount when he read the account of Isildur. And it would all come to a head when Frodo reveals that the Ring has the markings only fire could reveal.

      I agree with someone else here. He had always known what the ring was, which is why he was comfortable at the time with bilbo holding on to it. I believe the issue was that there were no signals anywhere from any of the other races that the search was on. It was only when he saw the vision of Sauron's eye and then saw Bilbo transitioning that he realised the fate of Frodo and the ring. This seems more in keeping with the reality of the ring, which is that it is almost like a radar and an absorbent material. If evil sends out a signal to it, it will be like a locator beacon and amplify it's abilities, but that also has an extraordinary impact on the ring bearer.

    In the book, Gandalf held the Ring in his hand twice. He asked Frodo for the Ring and looked at it. Then he tossed it into the fireplace and let it sit in the fire for a while. Then he removed it with the tongs, held it again, saw the writing inside and outside of the Ring for himself and gave it back to Frodo.
    In the movie, if Gandalf touches the Ring, Sauron feels and sees it instantly. Even faster than a palantir.

    man, in 4:54 there was so much plot development that in modern movies today you wouldn't get in half an hour, or it would be rushed through cheap exposition
    here we get to see Gandalf being afraid, Frodo being confused, Minas Tirith, Mordor, Isildur in the past, the history of the Ring and the threat of the 9 in such a short span, yet none of it feels rushed.

      It would have helped Frodo and company, but the ring wraith would have eventually figured the rouse and went back, kill everyone in that house, set everything in fire, and then piss in their ashes. That hobbit could have left the house for a while, but he still would have returned to a scorched land and had lost everything he didn't carried, with the knowledge that the wrait could return at any moment. For what it seems like just a shady dude going after someone else, doesn't seem to be worth the risk.

    Just imagine this: according to the book, Gandalf was gone for at least 10 years. For the first 3 he would occasionally visit Frodo at night but after that, he was gone. Imagine a fear so great, so dark that even made one of the most powerful beings in the Middle Earth, a Maiar quiver. For 10 years he hoped that the magical ring that a small creature from the Shire had in his pocket was not the One Ring, only for the bitter truth to come.

      in the books. in the movies, it's mere weeks or months. movies speed things up alot. everything is done with more haste. In the books Gandalf also spends weeks with Frodo, helping him plan his trip. Then Frodo orchestrates his whole move away to the country diversion so he can slip away.
      Movie is more like the Nazgul are breathing down his door and Gandalf beats them to the shire by like a day

      They probably kept it obscured in darkness so that we could get the grand reveal of it in ROTK. It was actually supposed to be visible in The Two Towers as well, during the scene where Faramir is leading Frodo and Sam to Osgiliath, but they removed it when test audiences mistook it for Helm's Deep. They put it back though, in the Extended Edition and in the recent 4K re-release.

      Probably not trying to draw attention to themselves, hence why they were "disguised as riders, dressed in black". Sauron's goal was to get the Ring back as soon and as quickly as possible, and information getting out about the location of the Ring would probably spur the races of Middle Earth into action, making it that much harder for Sauron to recover it.

    I never understood though why it was so difficult to Gandalf to put together that Bilbo’s ring was in fact the One Ring of Sauron, why did he took so long to find out for sure? In the film it is conveyed that it took a few months, but in the book it’s 17 years between the day he leaves to find answers and the day he returns to tell Frodo that his ring was Sauron’s ring and all its story. In my opinion he should’ve gone right away with Frodo to Rivendell to gather with Elrond.

    • @rand0me
      @rand0me 2 роки тому +7

      Saruman told everyone the One Ring was lost into the sea and since he was the loremaster no one questioned him. Gandalf wasn't sure what Bilbo's ring was other than it was magic, so he had to do a lot of searching to find out what it was. I believe Tolkien even admits this is a minor plothole that Gandalf doesn't just go straight to Saruman to ask him about it.

    One thing the movie does poorly is show the passage of time.
    For instance, Gandalf was gone for twenty years after giving Frodo the ring.
    Its not a problem or anything but it is fascinating.

    • @simonthoben189
      @simonthoben189 3 роки тому +5

      I don't think it's even supposed to be twenty years in the movies. Probably a couple of months or so. You see the Nazgul riding out of Minas Morgul before Gandalf gets to Minas Tirith. I assume the Nazguls departure for the shire must have happened just before or even during Gandalfs arrival in Minas Tirith.
