Mac 16D0: Exploring The OLDEST Available Build of Macintosh!

  • The Mac System Software 1.0 1983-07-05 build was discovered on a Sony 3.5-inch floppy disk dated July 5th, 1983. The user interface is named Flounder 4.4. The backdrop image is of a Twiggy disk rather than a Sony disk. The disk is apparently called Mac 16D0, according to the lettering at the top of the floppy disk.
    There are three apps on this disk that work: Disk Duplicator, Format-Copy Utilities, and Sonytest. Format-Copy Utilities is available in three distinct versions. It also has a tendency to crash, and it becomes significantly more likely to crash when the user selects "Finder" from the crash dialog box. It is the earliest accessible Macintosh build to date, predating the RTM Builds by 6 months.

    Terribly sorry about the second white cursor in the video, didn't mean to be there, the black cursor is the main cursor for the Macintosh.
