I love old homes. Hard to find ones that have not been DIYed or renovated and ruined in my opinion. Wish I could afford one.

That Syracuse home is so incredible!
Two people could easily restore that house!

If a person won the lottery and bought this house for its asking price of one thousand dollars they could take the money and restore it to its former glory days I think a person with of vintage personality would love to restore a Victorian style home to its original grandeur so may some lady who wins the lottery who loves all things old and antique and vintage and Victorian style homes would have a ball bringing this house to its original glory 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I live in Old West End of Danville, Va. Many of the homes you showed have already been purchased and are in the restoration process. The James house, shown last has been torn down by the city.

When I redid my home. It took almost two years. But was worth it. Wish I could find another home in Minnesota like this. I paid 20 thousand for mine.

Hard to find anything but land at that price in MN right now. (Realtor here). When did you buy? Did you use funds from preservation organizations to revitalize? I love Victorians. 2 years is definitely a labor of love.

Don’t underestimate how shockingly expensive foundation “issues” can become.

Renovations on home like these costs a fortune. The selling price is more like a teaser

Probably because the cost of maintenance or restoration is just toooooo high to sustain for some of these. Specially if it's full of asbestos or needs mold remediation or new plumbing or electrical etc 😮😮😮

When considering these old houses, always make sure to get the address and do a Google street view. Some of them are in terrible neighborhoods or 20 feet from a busy highway. That's why they're so cheap.

If these places are SUCH "loved historal pieces", why hasn't the cities they are in, bought them and restored them to their basics and sell them for landmark homes?
That alone tells me there is something not right with these homes.

I love old homes too. Unfortunately, they’re not very energy saving. It would be more economical to salvage the wood (untreated wood is a rare find), and the architectural details. Then rebuild a similar building adjacent to- because often times the foundation is inadequate. If it had a basement, you can repurpose that into a below the frost level greenhouse with the appropriate roof. It’s easy to design and build a home with all the details of the original. It’s better to redesign one that can be energy efficient and oriented to take best advantage of the sun, and landscape. Have fun!

As a contractor, my biggest concerns with these homes are locations and safe neighborhoods ] Next, no everything about all home owners and who live in the house, And finally, You better have a boatload of cash on hand we going in, And don't get me wrong, Some of the these old homes are real beauties and out standing ! Theres a old saying, Walk before you run ! And know what your getting yourself into from Jump Street. Good Luck.

Love your posts mate - or as we say DownUnder.. "Good on ya Mate, Nice dooer-Upper, bit of a bind, take your time, ladder's a climb, snakes in the roof, but if the walls don't fall down, got yaself a bargain - Mate..
Anyway, all aside - I'd love to see you do same in OZ. or NZ. It's a wee journey to the end of the world but... what an adventure..? You may find some Gems..
In Sydney (Australia) you cannot rent a piss-pot garage for under $50K. More cost to buy if you could actually Buy. Same sims for NZ.. But there are exceptions.
I recently lived in a place just maybe 20KM out of the CBD - don't know how that converts to Miles.. Shared house. Next door were four apparently abanded houses on decent sized land. Abandoned for about I don't know - 4-5 years. Owned by someone or others but nothing happening - Land Banking.?
I see so many living on the streets - men, women, kids, fams, in cars, under trees, in tents in parks, on the kerbs and sidewalks.. And yet - all these "abandoned" places. For every abandoned 2 or 4 beddie house - with even just a slight investment or makeover - that's a family off the streets. A Home. A Chance. An Opportunity.
I'm not in a position to even get a loan let alone buy one - but that's not the point. The Govs this way all talk about "we'll increase funding" or "we'll build this n that" - but... they Never Do. Especially after Election promises, and then getting elected. I, and my friends here this end, but likely across the world - We all hear the same, vote the same expectations, expect the same, and get the non-same. Right then. That was my rant for today.
Kyle - if you need an intro to OZ or NZ - let me know..

It would be nice if you put in the acreage as well. 1 acre, 5 acres, 10 acres? Additional buildings?

It is a shame these majestic houses are abandoned. I understand these houses were well built by craftsmen. I also understand, even restored these homes are incredibly expensive to maintain. Not to mention building materials that were used then , we know that are dangerous. Saddly, thats why so many historic homes are abandoned. They need someone with deep pockets and a love for those buildings to buy them.

I love the spirit of this video but if the neighborhood let this happen (as in it wasn't desireable to live in) I don't knkow if investing that much money in a neighborhood like that makes sense.

Average house price on a small block where i live is $750,000. Thats a small 4 bed, 2 bath, 2 car property. The price of these houses is less than our standard car prices. Id love to buy something like this with history and character. I love reno houses.

A lot of these old places are so cheap because there haunted before you buy one of these houses find out the full history and why the last people moved out and don't believe what the realtor tells you they're trying to sell the house they're not going to tell you everything

No more fixing up and flipping houses. All must be torn down and the ground reclaimed.
Owners will be charged for removal of old houses, all plumbing in ground and in the streets. All sidewalks and Blacktop roads Bridges, fences, electrical lines and polls must be removed. Mother nature to be rebuilt as if nothing man made was ever there.

It doesn’t matter whether you can afford it or not… there is just some dirt ball waiting to get permit money and insurance money and interest, money and remodeling money…… Everyone has their hand out for free money for doing nothing. That is why no one can afford a home. If you aren’t actually swinging the hammer, you shouldn’t get a dollar.
