William - Making the signs entirely out of plastic saved manufacturing steps & reduced production costs. But the die-cast metal base would make the signs stand up better!
I have this piece too, also in box, definitely nice to have. It's kind of odd that they stopped supplying the crossing X with this kit more recently. I like that you're covering things like this that many would find unimportant, I think the variants over time and production history is interesting. Thanks for the video!
Of course! The little stuff deserves attention too, Im glad you enjoyed! And yeah its weird they stopped including the crossbucks...the thing i would have most wanted as a kid.
Lauren, since you temporarily set up layouts & don't fasten things down, if you wanted to paint some of the signs, you could have a yellow stop sign for before 1957 & a red one for after 1957! The RR sign would stay yellow & the other signs are black lettering on a white background, so they can stay.
Plastic took something away from the vintage product, but it had it's advantages. Changing of the times indeed!!! Thanks for sharing!

@@LaurensLionel keep ‘em coming girl! I love your videos
Maybe Lionel wanted you to buy the operating railroad crossing signals?
Great! You could imagine how much waste the production for these boxes produced. Anyways, I have a plastic street sign box that has similar packaging.
Nice!
