Thanks Mike, and thanks for watching! I would suggest trying it on a cheap or free tree that takes rooting a little easier. Get a few successful ones done and get the confidence before trying it on one of your maples. Junipers are probably the easiest.
I'm in zone 6b. I wouldn't do any more air layers on deciduous trees this year. I mention in the video there is a possibility this might have to stay on over winter.
@@thebeardedbonsai…. I did a crepe myrtle last year it wasn’t ready to take off at all , I left it go through winter outside with the air layer still on it , now spring here this year it grew new leaves as a normal plant , I took of the foil and the roots were fine , I only just cut it free from the mother plant , it did well through winter 👍
I’m still very skeptical and intimidated to try this out but highly appreciate the video!! Keep ‘em coming!!!

Very informative and helpful
Thanks! 😊
What zone are you in? Is now a good time to air layer a Japanese maple?

@fishmut That's awesome, glad it turned out well for you!
I always take little transparent plasticboxes ,fix it with tape and fill the moss in from above...thats way easier as to place the foil🤷♂️
roots feed upward an leaves feed downward,,,so air layering stops the doward flow only forcing new roots to form...
Fingers crossed this one works!
You could have shown how you actually got to the point of having the bag on. That would have been useful. Nice tree though
@@kerrypeebles629 All of that is covered in this video, I show everything 😊
Good job on the demo! Did you separate the layer in autumn? How are the roots growing? 👏🏽🪴🍁
Thank you! No, it's still on the tree. I'll have to wait until later this spring when hopefully the roots will be good enough to cut it off.
