I saw this on my recommendation list and I knew I usually have trouble with the batting side of cricket and I realise that I keep putting a lot of weight on my front foot more than my bat itself and when I watched this video it helped me a lot and it makes me know what to do if i ever get stuck. Your videos help me a lot since it’s my first time playing club cricket
Hey tom I always suffer on leg side thanks for posting this video Now i will be able to play shots clearly rather than playing in air and caught Thanks tom😘
I'm absolutely useless at this and have done some work on it over the last 2 winters with very little improvement (No.11), but the advice here sounds very coherent and it seems as though I've not heard it explained quite in the way that you have, so... sounds promising I'll be trying to put this into practice over the coming months in the nets.
Awesome mate. It's a very common mistake that lots of people make. Short step when the ball is on leg stump = easier access to the ball with your bat + head able to get forward = power & control in your shot and you can keep it on the ground. Let us know how you go with it mate!
We're probably out of sync time-wise, but I'm off to nets in the next 4 or 5 hours, I usually face the machine at about 60-65mph, do you recommend when you're working on learning how to play these shots, you should slow it down a bit to give yourself more of a chance in being able to play the shots and then build up the speed as you improve?
Hi mate. Think I may have missed you before you went to the nets? Yes I would recommend you slow it down a bit while you're grooving this shot... I often do underarms with the players I work with, which is a simple but effective way of grooving technique
Yeah it didn't go too well - had it at 57mph and looking back at the video I'm all over the place - jumping out of the way, falling over - total mess! Will need to slow down massively, the main thing I don't do is move towards the ball.
Hiya, at the minute I am struggling to have confidence when it comes to playing in my county and club games. I can hit the ball hard and proper in the nets happily but in the game I seem to lose all control and can only play a front foot drive. Is there anyway I can over come this mentally and physically?
Elizabeth Grantham Woodhouse I have this pbm too.. I noticed 2 things changed from the practice matches to a major tournament.. I was not watching the ball as I used to in the practice games & was tentative to play the correct shots for the correct ball & instead chose to ignore the practice and played the shot I am comfortable with.. so, failure is guaranteed..
@@JohnPhilips1982 yes that is the same with me. I don't have the confidence to do other shots in a game because I'm afraid I'll get out. My coaches are desperate for me to progress but I don't know how to. Any tips?
Elizabeth Grantham Woodhouse I think the only way is to make up ur mind and premeditate before every ball 1 shot u want to play and stay committed to it no matter what. & listen to what ur mind says don’t ignore ur instincts! Once u start performing I believe u can go back to playing based on the merit of the ball. Right now, u just need to watch the ball!
Anyone can hit the ball hard in nets. Nets are designed to let you do that. If they weren't then noone would want to bat. You need to realise that an actual game is another thing entirely and try to bat in nets how you would in a game instead of the other way round.
hello sir im currently a 1st team player and need to improve on my bouncers i had a bat at 2.12 and sooner changed it to a 2.7 and now playing the pull shot better
If you’re being hit on the thigh pad it’s short of a length and you need to get back and across. I’ve had success from simplifying the thought process to two options.. Can I drive this; no; back and across to off stump. The movement puts your weight on your back foot and actually buys you sighting time to select the right shot/leave.
Wow that's definitely interesting to be truthfully honest and I've also learnt that in the cricket nets at Springfield cricket club an also back foot drive I was wondering if ya can do the pull shot in cricket mentoring tip basics 😊😊
when the ball is bowled at my pads wich shd b played on leg side technically.... but i keep making some room play it to the off side or straight...how to avoid this mistake??
Sir when ever I play in nets any thing which comes on off side I will play but on legs side I am unable to play it is hitting to guard or some ever else pls help me
Start with close throw downs, then half pitch throw downs, building up to slow full pitch deliveries and, eventually, medium and quick pace deliveries. Don't move on until you feel confident to do so. Good luck.
Sir , I tend to keep a balanced stance most of the time...but when a ball is short of a length angling towards my body I can't seem to execute the pull for the life of me !! I don't know why but as I go for the shot... somehow I can't get the free flow of the bat...please help & thank you
Change ur grip (means open the face of the bat and stand in ur stance . Try this in nets or practice it . If u get it wrong, practise and watch u tube videos
I get hit in the pad a lot I have no idea what to do I am so depressed ..that's the only weak link in my armour ..I am good through the offside straight ..I can pull a cannon ball at the speed of knots but onside I am like an amateur...plz help me
+Joe George hi mate, where are you from? We are putting together a program for the leg side this month. Keep an eye out for it on our website and social media.

Thanks helped a lot
Was wondering if u could make a video on hitting leg side balls as I often get hit on the thigh pad or miss

You might need to get into a more front on position as a pull shot is a front on position. You need space to let the bat flow through.
