Since 1967 the leafs had really good captains,not one of them took the leafs to the cup finals, will Auston do it i don't think so the team needs to be constructed differently,specially the bottom 6 extremely weak

For me, I wouldn’t make him captain only because I’d want him to concentrate on scoring only rather than leading. Some say Reilly should have gotten the C….I’m not sure about that either. But if Matthews is up for it, then let’s see….if can’t hurt……at least I don’t think it can.

Auston is soft. Not sure you want your captain to be a marshmallow. There is no real leader on the leafs with grit, what exactly will he do to change things? This is just window dressing in my opinion to appease some fans. It makes it less embarrassing for your organization because many fans are down on Tavares at the moment. If we pay them $10 million plus they will be worth it. If we make him the captain he will be worthy of it. Well it has kept fans from worrying about the roster construction for a day now. It was Matthews or McCabe. Rielly makes a ton of mistakes and can't even shoot the puck. Matthews is the front face of the organization and on pace to break a ton of records. As for McCabe, my god that guy shows up no matter his faults he absolutely shows up and throws his body out there like it's just how it needs to be done.

McCabe has plenty of defensive faults but McCabe and Benoit were the best defensive pair all last year. Don't see any other players on the leafs laying playoff hockey quite like McCabe.
