    Beautiful bike with a jewel of an engine-I took a 76 model for a test ride in the mid 80s and loved the smoothness of that engine

    Wish I still had my '76 in red. Bought it two years old right after discharge from the Air Force. I'd like to find another one just like it.

    First saw my red cb400 four at the 1976 bike show in Blackpool. It was first prize in a competition. It was supplied by Bill Head Preston and came with a chrome parcel rack. Its registration was PHG 555P. I didn't win it, but the man that did sold it back to Bill Head because he had frightened himself to death on it!
    I bought it from Bill Head with 109 miles on the clock! I kept the bike for about 10 years (not sure of exact time). I used to ride it almost daily to work, however the high Riding position caused me hip pain which was the main reason I sold it. It was a great bike, smooth engine with rock solid handling on bends. Abiding memory - 1) check/adjust chain tension 2) go out for a burn-up 3) adjust chain tension again! It was a bit of a jeckle & hide character. In higher gears and lower revs it was a pussy cat puring along, but drop down to lower gears and open the throttle and it took off like a scalded cat. Great memories?

    Interesting as UK versions had the side panels colour matched to the tank on the 400 variants but black on the 750.

      +Too Old To Die Young, ..Aussie versions were also with colour matched side covers, ..Aussie 75 & 76 models were same red & blue as the 75's shown here. Not absolutely sure but I believe the 77's were also the same, ..& never saw any with the pinstripes or any yellow versions in Aussie. The 750F Super Sport with 4 into1 came in a yellow though

    These things just were not moving off the dealer floor when they were new. Dealers in San Jose advertising listed them lower every few weeks... think that the last ad had the 400 @ $ 877...

    F1 Red or Blue (no F1 Yellow) F2 Yellow or Maroon. I had an F2 (yellow) in 1978.

    The 400 was probably a nice bike as all Hondas were/are, but I never liked it as much as the CB350F...the 350 was a much nicer looking bike...

    • @42much1
      @42much1 2 роки тому +2

      Allow us to disagree.., the 350 F has that old look from early seventies. The 400 f has a cafe racer look.

    • @jamesbottger5894
      @jamesbottger5894 2 роки тому

      @@42much1 Yep, we have different tastes...the 350 looked more like the original 750, which I liked...I didn't care for the cafe look of the 400...
