A wonderful performance by the world's greatest tenor! It should also be noted that Kaufmann is going from vocal triumph to vocal triumph here in 2015 with a voice even more beautiful and powerful. If his technique is as bad as the 'experts' claim someone should be teaching it to other tenors.

même quand Jonas est un peu essouflé, comme ici c'est une chanteur qui inspire le respect, car il s'implique toujours personnellement dans tout ce qu'il fait, et je le sens toujours en recherche de sa perfection. J'aime tout ce qu'il fait, car son authenticité est très émouvante.

Well, not trying to pontificate, but I have listened to almost all of the UA-cam presentations of this St. Supice scene with the wonderful aria Ah! fuyez. T;he Pavarotti rendition was very dramatic, but for me out of bounds of the Massenet feeling. Great for La Scala which wants to hear fortissimos and high C's. Certain opera roles are good for certain voices. I prefer Manon with Bjoerling and Jonas Kaufmann who has perfect diction and the pronunciation of French, German and Italian and all the languages in which he sings. The Pavarotti recording was not good and Alagna was not in good shape and should never have recorded Ah! fuyez.

For this opera and aria, there are quite a few hauntingly great performances there from others, Jussi and Jonas' versions are not on my top list, though loving both deeply. For example, french tenor Georges Thill delivers great on this. Jonas deserves credit of such a dynamic voice, I think he has been evolving and still is working hard to improve, to move to certain area, his powerful role in Wagner and Veridi be more attractive to me. Pavarotti' timbre of voice was great in 70 and 80's
To me, Georges Thill and Jussi Björling both sound too old to sing Des Grieux judging from the samples given by UA-cams here. Kaufmann is not young either at this point (30 years old) but he acts with his voice, so his emotion at the church here is so well expressed and the situation in "Ah! fuyez, douces images" is convincingly clear.
If you want to hear how this aria should be sung just listen to Jussi Bjorling, incomparable! Kaufmann is very good but in this music not in the same class.
Mediocre. Often out of tune. No height on his sound. Pushed, throaty (those pianissimi are crap) uneven and he is being amplified with microphones. Imagine without them...

I saw Kaufmann's Andre Chenier HD from the ROH yesterday at a big theater, and he was tremendous! As someone has said, he gets better and better.

I forgot to mention one of my preferences in the role of Des Grieux is Nicolai Gedda. There are other lighter voices, lyric spintos who suit the role.

I don't agree with you. Bjorling sounds old, and less involved - not a believable portrait of DesGrieux for me.
