Just a note from where Im at we are legally required to retreive all our meat I understand that with the abundance of game its not a legality but wasting any meat is disrespectful to the animal you harvested in my opinion you should concider packing it all as there are many choice cuts being left in the feild if you need recipies theres alot online to use front cuts and neck or rib meat thanks for sharing your hunt

Cheers Adam I completely agree I have a lot of respect for any animal I kill and am extremely greatful to harvest any meat off of it. but it is quite different here in A lot of parts of NZ. If the animal numbers aren’t controlled it is common to have a helicopter come through and mass shoot hundreds of animals and a lot of the time they are left to rot which is a real shame. It’s our job as foot hunters to protect the future of our sport and the forest and mountains we hunt in. It is also often encouraged that if you shoot a stag to take a hind with it but that’s all depending on the animal numbers in the area. I like to take the back steaks and legs for steak meats if it’s a very long carry and will use the whole animal if the walk isn’t as difficult.

Thank you! Really appreciate the support. We are very lucky here in NZ the majority is public land and hunt-able all year round. Definitely a dream of mine to hunt over in the states though!

Gun laws are certainly very strict now a pretty strong limit on what we can use. But most typical hunting rifles are legal.
