Went to that game, ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. got a little wave from Sophia💗🇺🇸
Damn. Swanson looks amazing. Like she never left the National Team for one year.
Mal was just one of way too many USWNT players who couldn't make the 2023 WWC due to injuries, but she was by far the one we missed most ...and I mean on both sides of the ball.
Mallory works hard to stay in tip-top shape all year so she's willing to high-press the opposition for a solid 60, easy. She's the nearest thing we have to Carli Lloyd, since her retirement.
We've won lots of tournaments based on that high-press strategy. When we don't, press, the games are much closer. (e.g.: 2019 WWC knockout games). Rapinoe's press was weak sauce.
That's part of why we did so poorly in the 2020 (played in 2021, actually) Tokyo Olympics. For whatever crazy reasons, Vlatko would *not* play the Press - Lloyd - Swanson line.

@@AllenCross rapinoes press was not weak sauce bro...the left side of the pitch was shakier given their lineup was always up in the air (rapinoe injuries, dunn at LB, Ertz vs. Mewis. Horan). Comparitvely, Tobin Heath, Kelly O'Hara and Rose Lavelle had that right side locked DOWN for years. Amazing combo and they r missed dearly!

Japan could have played a lot better. Looked unsure playing out of defence. This USWNT is beatable so I'm disappointed Nadeshiko couldn't win. I fear Jun Endo will be missed. Glad to see Miyazawa back. Hopefully she can get back her World Cup form. Still hopeful Nadeshiko Japan can win gold at Olympics!
Could have? How. This is total domination by the US team. Attack after attack. JPN did good in defense otherwise would concede more goals.
This Japan team beat eventual champions Spain 4-0 at World Cup. Of course they could have played better against this average US team. Japan have quality players as good as the US side has.
@@ajax377 You shouldn’t use one match vs one opponent to compare with another match vs another opponent. Spain winning the WC doesn’t mean they’re the strongest team in the world, the US team failing the WC doesn’t mean they were not strong. In soccer or any sports, upsets happen. The US team has always been strong and controlled most matches they’ve played but scoring has been their problem. They attack but don’t score and when the opponent counter attack they sometimes don’t have enough players in the back and let the opponent score. In this match with the return of Malory Swanson their attack became more dangerous. I didn’t watch the entire match though but from the highlights I could tell the US controlled possession, Japan relied on counter attacking.

Japan catenaccio works for 🇮🇹 but usa win for a penalty a japanese mistake and clever decisión for the american girl to fail in the field as she feels the contact. So i think 🇯🇵 must attack more when they are on the lead not just defend,they forgot to counterstrike thats how italians do their catenaccio back in the 90s.

全体的に決まり事があるとは思えない守備だった。
内容的には1-5くらいで、1-2の結果はラッキーだった。
18歳の古賀選手が良い守備をして北朝鮮戦から復調したのはよかった。
浜野選手はボールを触る機会が少なかったが判断が速く、もっと長い時間見たかった。
谷川はキックは良いが足が遅く、プレスバックもジョギングするような選手だから五輪代表から外すべき。
また、再び日本は技術的に完成していないプレイを見せた。 サムライブルーレベルに従うには、テクニックとビルドアップの練習が必要です。
全部は見てないけど、日本のビルドアップ酷すぎてびっくりした。
これから先ポゼッションでやっていきたいんだとしても、繋ぐのが無理な試合の時は早くプラン変更すべきだと思う。
日本人は戦い方を増やし続けないから勝率は上がらないだろうね。 ゲームプランを増やし続けないから 今後 勝ち続けても攻略される試合が出てくる。 進化し続けないのが日本人の特徴。

The US won the game because the US disruptive play and caused a lot of problems in the spaces. The last She Believes game in 2003 Japan controlled things, this was not the case this time in 2024.

@@captaindunsel2806 Point is that Japan rarely make mistakes executing their strategy in a way to just hand over the game through silly enforced errors. You have to simply by better than them by out playing, out strategizing or just being bigger, stronger faster or taller. I root for the us & want to see them do real well. But they barely won. It was through a rare error. And I don’t really like to see wins decided through penalties. Over all, i would rather good executed, dribbling passes with clinical finishing. Felt the same way when they played china. Giving constructive criticism. The one exception I would give is on shaws goal. Zlatan approves.

Because if you ever watched the uswnt or any soccer game you can tell the team plays better when she is on the pitch, she makes the defense play scared, Alex could get like 3-5 players on her so that would free up other players, Mal, Alex, Trin and Shaw did amazing yesterday, the way she reads people you would understand, the soccer world all knows people don't think she should start but we aren't the coach.. so why don't you just watch the game and enjoy the game...
Morgan era is over. Swanson-Smith-Rodman should be front line, Shaw as a cam and Macario from the bench and this team nobody can stop.

Wow amazing performance by the the USA women soccer team this afternoon was a tough and physical and mental game tonight but by the end of the clock and the international friendlies they came out Great contributions tonight from Shaw and Lindsey Horan. I have watched both Japan and USWNT many years. Japan could win other teams in the world easily. Yet, they always had a hard time against the USWNT. They just couldn't overcome the pressing from the US players. Physically they still have some weakness. I do believe they are making progress. Hope they will figure out soon how to beat the US effectively.

Japan was not on their A game. They looked off balance and their passing was simply atrocious. They had zero answer for the United States press which was pure class. Player of the match for me was Samantha Coffey she handled the midfield like a boss. Credit to USA they came to play.

I saw the game and the balls they gave away were impressive, it even seemed like they did it on purpose, even at the end, even though they were losing, they didn't go on the attack....it's a US tournament so I don't want to think that they gave the game to the US.

I'm talking about soccer, particularly female soccer. Of course if a player is really bad at technical skill, she can't beat a much higher skilled player even she is stronger. Yet, if between two similar skilled players, then the stronger has the advantage. Don't you agree?
Individually, the Japanese players are not much higher skilled than the USWNT players. The only thing that Japanese team does better than the USWNT is the team-work, short-distance passing. They did it very well at the WC, and they counter-attacked very well when beating Spain 4-0. They could win over Spain easily because Spain played a possessing tactic. Not like the USWNT. The USWNT team played pressing. Japanese team couldn't handle the pressing very well in this game. Why? Because their physical strength was not good enough to do so. The ONLY way for the Japanese can win over the USWNT is: when the USWNT makes mistake (like the first minute of the game), and/or when the Japanese learn how to control balls better under pressure. To do so, it's not just about technique, but also about fitness. That's my opinion.

Also, you seem to be thinking that the USWNT are the only fit players and that they are close in technical skils to technical teams. I am sorry but I disagree. Our Press is back, USWNT IS BACK. I love the front attack and Japan who normally like to control games couldn’t really do that due to the US unsettling their midfield thanks to Sam Coffey and all the attackers really stepping up. Mal Swanson looks dangerous and that is encouraging because it will take a couple of months for her to really settle in.

About the game being fair, In what part of my initial comment I said it wasn't? the USA goals were clear errors from Japan, they have possession but didn't create much with it, is all about speed with them.

I would not say they lack talent (I think Macario, Swanson, Horan and some others are very talented) but I do think that many NWSL tend to overrate talent from some other players (Rodman, Naeher...)

I really enjoyed the game. The US team is amazing. I have loved both teams for so many years. As an Asian American, I love both Japan and US team. They are the best two in the world. No doubt to me.
What Japanese need is physical strength. They are not stronger and faster than the Americans. Look at Shawn. She is a mixed race of Vietnamese and Black. She is very strong and fast. Pure Asians have some disadvantage, naturally. For years, Japanese has done a great job on building a team based on technical strength and team work. Yet, in this particular game, those quality couldn't overcome a pressing and fast pace game.
American team is getting much better after the World Cup. I love this young team. They're rock! They will take back the number 1 ranking from FIFA soon. Way to go, girls!
