Rifftrax Animated Intro

- An animated intro I made for www.rifftrax.com/
I've been a fan of Rifftrax for a long time as well as Mystery Science Theater 3000 before that, so being asked to work on this with some of my comedy heroes was a really awesome opportunity. - Фільми й анімація
Harry Partridge is just genious, best animator on youtube
"On UA-cam" ?
let's say "the best animator ever" :p
Danny Arzate Animation is always hand drawn unless you're some kind of niche hipster. He does it on a computer with a graphics tablet like most animators these days.
VaneFox Yes... I know... his animation is just genious, let's leave it at that...
genius*
Turned out fucking incredible
maxmoefoe am I the only reply
Hello dude
chef
0:01 even a movie logo with rifftrax’s name on it!
Thank you for creating such a genius masterpiece. All of the MSTies of the world will forever be grateful to you, and Jonathan Coulton, for creating this.
Jonathan Coulton? Wait...is that a guy who produced the Portal's Still Alive?
That's the one!
We love it too!
When the SPOILERS Twilight vampire got it I started applauding.
Rifftrac
Thor staking Edward always brings a smile to my face.
The sad moment when you realize 50% of the people here don't know what Mystery science theater / Rifftrax is...
I feel old :(
Do you feel old now that this comment is 6 years old?
Oh man the algorithm's doing its thing again
Hipsterpants Gladstone you know it
Feeling old? We still have vhs tapes we traded for. "Keep circulating those tapes"
That 50% probably went to go and find out what it is, so that's a good thing.
Spectacular animation. I wonder how long it took you to complete?
i love you lol
Can you do more tacoman play plase
hello GOD ^___^
Omg its tacoman
Jokes on the movies
"Professional jokes by professional comedy professionals."
Okay, I laughed pretty hard.
I don't know if "Too fucking perfect" is the best way to describe this intro and the song but it's all that comes to mind right now.
New *Harry Partridge* and *Cyriak* videos in the same week after so long!
Did you both escape from somebody's basement or something?
yay Cyriak fan! You rock (and maybe a bit weird for liking Cyriak)
@@Ophiuchus123456789 why some good times in it
I started watching rifftrax, saw the opening and immediately recognized the animation style
i now have insanely high expectation of rifftrax
You can check out their youtube channel. They have samples of pretty much every movie they've done I think.
It's really funny if you're a big movie buff. Here's a sample of one of my favourite riffs for example: /watch?v=lGV15kXY43U
DUDE. Is that Jonathan Coulton singing? Sweet Jesus that is awesome.
Edit: Ok I just watched the credits at the end. I could instantly hear it was him.
Oh-- and the animation is out of this world.
I've never heard of Rifftrax before, but it better live up to this.
Marriage begging aside, I'm a little disappointed you've never heard of them. They've been around for a long time and their pretty popular in the geek community.
I'm guessing you never heard of the name MST3K aka Mystery Science Theater 3000 either. You should correct that blunder in the near future and go check them out.
Nice little tip of the hat to the Satellite of Love, I approve.
Looking at the comments, it appears majority of Harry Partridge fans are not also MST3K fans. I assumed they came hand-in-hand. Oh well. That Satellite of Love homage!
That feels like a major crime...
I'm so used to reading tweets from the UA-cam animator community going on and on about how they won't work for free due to how long the process of animating short toons can take and the hard work it involves that I can
only assume Harry has been paid at least eleventeen jillion dollars for this. Ps what the fuck is a rifftrax?
i dont know what it is but i hope he got paid because the idea of watching movies and making jokes while at it is even more stupid than doing it with games.
If you remember Mystery Science Theater 3000 from the 90's, it's a few guys who watch movies and they make jokes during the film. It's the bees knees. www.rifftrax.com/
lasarousi no it isn't, it's just as much a decent job as any other form of comedy
lasarousi
www.rifftrax.com/video-on-demand Look at the samples
Tak Wolf it sounds like fun, until it costs the same amount of the movie to get a movie of them talking over it. its nice but.. i'll just stick to nostalgia critic.
Absolutely gorgeous animation as usual. Minimal tweening, 24 fps or higher, painted backgrounds. Fuck, man. Sometimes I wonder if high quality 2D animation is dead. Then I remember that you're still around.
thats jonathon coulton id recognise those sultry tones anywhere
+sassy lost child So i was right, didn't read this quote fast enough, Dumb ole me...
wow. The quality of this animation does not match the lack of quality of the lyrics to the song. That was the most literal song I've ever heard in my life.
you should watch the dull humor the site has.
Subject Knight Yeah, Rifftrax really isn't as good as MST3K, or this excellent intro.
Subject Knight SykoFox Depends on the movie. MST3K and Rifftrax both have their share of lame episodes, but the humour and style are identical. There's gems and there's lame ones. The Star Wars prequels, Avatar, High School Musical were all brilliant.
That's what Jonathon Coulton does. All his songs are quite literal. Code Monkey, Still Alive, Re: Your Brains, etc.
Do you know what literal means
This is just a very good example of how amazing Harry Partridge is at animating, and the fact that he does that frame by frame shows the dedication and talent he puts into his work. Godspeed Partridge.
0:30 - 0:32: Nice Gargamel Animation. Totally looks like the character.
so clean
@Treniks it’s like when the 3 people decide to visit Jesus
This song is catchy af
0:33 *SOL spotted*!! :D
Its the satellite of love
All these youngsters asking what Rifftrax is.. For Shame..
On an unrelated note, has anyone figured out the chords for this yet? I've been trying for 2 days now, but I'm not the best at picking up things by ear.
Darkgalaga The opener chord is a D or its root is a D. Also, at 0:25 there are power chords (fifths) in this ascending order: F#/Gb, G, A.
Also, Maybe think of it this way? In most music made on this planet, there are only twelve notes. Tuned to any one of the notes, you can play every other one within the twelve frets higher up on the neck and then there are the same notes over again higher and higher, and on other strings too if the other strings are tuned to other notes. Does that help you at all?
Thanks! this helped. I've only been playing (ukulele) for a few months now, and am still grasping the concept of music a bit.
Darkgalaga You're welcome.
I'm in high school right now and I've known about Mst3k for years. Sad thing is nobody my age does.
You're an artist.
I see you are a man of culture as well
@@TBStudios91 like sky walker
Ok, I just watched... and I think I'm gonna have to watch it a couple more times to fully grasp the jokes and beautiful animation.
See you in 3 hours.
Does this song come off as passive aggressive to anyone else?
"It's not an easy job. They watch movies and then make jokes about them."
"THEY HEAR JOKES. PROFESSIONAL JOKES FROM PROFESSIONAL COMEDY PROFESSIONALS"
And then just the whole concept of making a spectacle of putting on a whole event at your home to sit and watch a commentary track of a over a movie of a few guys cracking jokes.
It all just comes off as Coulton subtly making fun of Rifftrax.
We worked with him on the song. Could be us making fun of ourselves a bit!
***** I love how literal it is.
Example A of someone not reading at *least* the first couple lines of the description before commenting.
Magnimazing
I can't see how any part of the description invalidates any part of my question.
***** So then you're saying you have no sense of humour. Because people who *do*; know how to laugh at themselves...Which clearly Rifftrax does.
All of a sudden a thing we'd all never herd of became *10x more popular!*
Brilliant. All the awesomeness of Rifftrax condensed into a minute and 14 seconds.
Glad you like it!
The perfect opener. It was even integrated into the Quiplash style party game for multiple home consoles.
Watching Rifftrax with friends is terrible. I tried it once and never again. Rifftrax is best watched alone.
You need new friends then.
***** ;_;
I agree, with friends you kind of want to do the riff with them, not listen to one ;)
It's true. T_T.
Prehistoric Birds?! Pfft.
What we need is zombie birds that vomit acid, make fighter plane sounds and explode.
An animation by my favorite animator, with a song by my favorite musician, about an amazing series? Perfect.
Let's see, favorite animator and favorite comedy musician (tied with Weird Al), working on something for some of my favorite comedians. How did I not know about this before now?
You're a bit late to the party, but that's alright! You're here now :D!
Awesome Opening. Great animation by Harry and Great Song by Jonathan Coulton. Both very fitting to the Hilarity of Rifftrax.
Harry Partridge and Jonathon Coulton is a wonderful blend I didn't even know I wanted, and now I want nothing else but more!
The animation is great but rifftrax sounds really dumb
EDIT: I've now seen rifftrax and it's hilarious
Still making me feel like I dont know how to animate, i see. :P DAMMIT HARRY!!
Hello UA-cam r
Wheres the funny?
Somewhere between here 0:00 and there 1:22 .

Heathco.MD
Fuck you people for ruining that song for me
This is great! Awesome work! I saw this at the Rifftrax! Live! Godzilla 98' and it floored me :)
I saw this during the recent showing of their Godzilla riff in theaters, and it legitimately surprised me. I picked it up as your animation right away, and it looks amazing. :)
Oh wait that's his tail
A Harry Partridge animation to a JoCo song about Rifftrax??
This is exactly what I didn't know I wanted.
Rifftrax/Mystery Science Theater 3000: Just a group of friends poking fun and making jokes while watching a movie that's either good or bad.
Edit: BTW, I hope the guys from RiffTrax gave you a raise for this. This was just amazing! 👏🏼
Holy shit, is that Jonathan Coulton doing the singing?
Yes it is! You can buy the theme on our site and iTunes.
Yea, if u're an as****le who hates rifftrax. ..
So, if you are making a joke you can doawnload a video with youtube-mp3? huh...
I got your joke, you just dident get mine
okey, i joked. you dident get it. and i got your joke
I love the addition of the MST3K spaceship, great nod to the classic riffers!
Excellent animation Harry, keep at it!
0:46 - 0:55 That seems like a rather jerkish thing to do.
Your party, your rules.
Thank you Thor
Now if he could do that to Justin Bieber...
thank you Thor, very cool!
Lol! I thought the same thing.
MST3K fan, but I'm getting more into Rifftrax now. First time seeing the intro last night and I'm just like...is that Harry Partridge?!
The animation was great, but that song was awful.
That was SICK! What is a Riffrax?
The fine folks of MST3K doing what they do best.
lizardlord4k
drinking beer?
^lol
They watch movies and make jokes about the movies.
How did I not know about this video until now?!
Here's all the RiffTrax movies that I can see starting from 0:43 in the guy's house, as far as I can spot: a Spartan from 300, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, the clown from Ghosthouse, the germ leader from The Clean Club, Batman from the 1949 serial, Supersonic Man, Abraxas, Nicolas Cage from The Wicker Man, Vampira from Plan 9 from Outer Space, Mustache Dad from Twilight, Vanilla Ice from Cool as Ice, The Guy from Harlem, Torgo, Brainiac, Safety Woman, the monster from Revenge of Dr. X, Moose Baby, Mr. B. Natural, The Crater Lake Monster, one of the girls from Missile to the Moon, Darth Vader, Daniel-san, Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny, and Thor.
When this premiered at the live "Godzilla" RiffTrax, the audience went absolutely wild. Well done!
Good animation. Disappointing song though. Come on Jonathan, you could do better.
They don't deserve your awesome skills
Animation is amazing as always, but... the song and lyrics... awful...
0:33 the space bone I love it.
The Satellite of Love!!!!
This is incredibly glorious.
You have, once again, given me another reason to adore you and your work so much.
I've been an MST3K fan for years and I love Rifftrax and now we have this beautiful video.
It's as if gold had been smelted down into the base waveforms of light, mixed with ambrosia, then gently guided into my retinas with the angelic and scented wafts of an angel's wing.
hello oli mery jan i love you bye.
0:08 plan 9 from outer space in color? wat?!
Not a big fan of this song :( not sure why, I really want to like it, but I just can't.
Epic, love the visual one "Tell their jokes to microphones"
Freaking love that little laughing microphone :3
So basically they're a pay-per-view trio of nostalgia critics... No thanks, I'll stick to the free one.
They did this before Nostalgia Critic was even a thing
Not even close, shithead.
literally nearly every 80s and 90s cartoon.
I think that's a good thing. I really enjoy that style.
oh no i wasn't saying it was bad, just made an observation.
Ah, alright.
Love the inclusion of the Satellite of Love :D
I love how the Rifftrax intro and theme just assumes i have a bunch of friends to watch Rifftrax with me.
And that Rifftrax shouts the word JOKES over an annoying PA system.
Wow this song sucks... Good job on the animation though.
Beautiful animation but wtf is this?
There is something diabolical about this song…I heard it ONCE and now I can’t get it out of my head!!!!! I actually put it on my workout PLAYLIST! We are ALL slowwwwwwly being brainwashed by the RIFFTRAX team. 😜
I cant get it out of my head! It's too catchy!
At where? AT WHERE?! I MUST KNOW I WANT TO SEE THIS ON A GIANT SCREEN AAAAH
It's been too long Harry. How I missed you...
I like the sneaky Sattelite of Love you put in there.
The story boarding was simply amazing!
The animation was good too.
Correct me i I'm wrong, but did none of the lines in this song even attempt to rhyme?
mst3k is awesome!
Yea, but they are caled rifftrax now.
I know, but i still enjoy it!
I love MST3K and the bits from rifftrax are funny, i just wish i could afford the dvds or even tickets :/ damn hospital bills
What the hell is Rifftrax?
The guys from Mystery Science Theater 3000. What's that, you ask? A guy in space and his robot pals that do riffs on old and cheesy/bad movies. Pretty fun show, if you like that sort of thing.
Obviously the lyrics were not blatant enough.
John Smith No, actually, they weren't. Maybe they seem that way to someone who's seen it.
Da Fickles "they watch movie's then make jokes about them" "you press play and instead of just a movie they hear jokes"
I dont know how much more blatant, obvious and explanatory the lyrics could have been.
To put it simply: Rifftrax is a group of comedians who create alternate commentaries for movies, cracking jokes at every opportunity. Search on youtube for "Best of Rifftrax". You'll soon see what they can do for a movie.
Anyone else freak out hearing this the first few times? Thinking... "I'll never memorize all of that"... and now you can sing it in your sleep?
I got to say that whole thing was catch very catch i loved it
Harry, you performed a grand thing for the Rifftrax crew, thank you as a fan of Rifftrax & MST3K!
Is this Jonathan Coulton?
AWW YEAH IT IS!
Seriously? This is like a trifecta of geekery.
Yup! Our friend JoCo did an amazing job, and Harry just nailed it.
I'm definitely in the minority, but ever since I saw this opening/song I thought it was so cringey. Painfully forced and so on the nose. But I know the majority love it. So what do I know? I just want them to move on from it and use a new one.
As someone who truly enjoyed the prequels (I actually prefer them over the originals) I laughed and loved how they were represented in this video.
My god, I never laughed so hard at Darth Vader force choking anyone ever.
This is sleek as heck, Harry. Good job all around. It's actually surprising to me that a lot of people haven't heard of Rifftrax before.
It's a shame that this is better then anything rifftrax has actually done, it just makes me cringe when they try to be funny and aren't at all
shame that you're so jealous
deskish
Can you stop fucking equating not liking something to jealousy? Fuck off.
Mike Vandervelden I think it's fair game when people are being dicks about it.
There is not enough money in the world that equals the amount I would have paid to see Thor kill a Twilight Vampire. Harry? Thank you.
wow rifftrax is wanting ppl to buy only this intro animation for $1.00, yet here it is for free.
as well as making ppl buy movies you can find at a thrift store for $0.10 and putting commentary over them, then selling them for $9.99
Bob Boberts Yep, and I gracefully support my favorite comedians rather than buy a cheese burger. Wasn't aware that trading money for things you enjoy in support of it continuing was a bad thing now.
David K. Welcome to 2014 where people don't deserve to get paid for work. It's the goddamn entitlement. As an artist it happens it happens all the time. People don't want to pay for commissions or they want you to lower the price.
Dali Ruiz Okay, no. I'm getting tired of all this whining by artists. I have to sift through this shit on Tumblr every day and it's making me mad. Most of us don't have cushy jobs! Many of us don't have jobs at all. Those of you who are doing well enough that you can sit and make art and get paid for it have it better than most of us do. You are in no position to criticize any of us for this and act like we're unnatural or toxic for wishing you could COME DOWN INTO OUR PRICE RANGE. I hear all this crap on Tumblr and other artist-attracting sites where artists are demanding to be paid /professional industry-levels of cash/ which is in the several hundreds for a handful of hours on an uncomplicated picture. Grand or more for minor animation. I would literally kill for a setup like that. Most of us would.
Many of us would love to support you people, but we're in far more need of support than you! That doesn't mean we don't enjoy your labors. It doesn't mean we don't love what you do. It means we can't give you money for it. It means we wish we could afford it, but we barely have enough to keep the essentials going and the family fed.
Yet all I /ever/ hear from you lot is bitching like we're sitting on furniture MADE of Benjamins and chortling to ourselves over expensive foods about how it'd be funny not to pay the plebians or something. It's so rare I find an artist who actually realizes and talks about the fact that they're better off than their fanbase, no matter how bad they think they've got it. Do you live in the ghetto? Have you been shot? Do you not have the money to move away? Guess what? That's me! That's many others just like me! Stop demonizing us!
But hey, I mean. If everyone who couldn't pay you for sitting on your duff and working on your art just stopped paying attention to you altogether, then none of this would happen. You'd also get no exposure and the people with disposable income to spend would almost never find you.
Of course I'm going to get attacked by "blah blah deserve pay" people who don't fucking realize I agree with that, but point out most of us can't. But I'm fucking tired of reading stupid opinions that treat us like we're horrid little monsters, all this 'entitlement'. That kind of argument can be construed as entitlement, itself. You people are lucky you live in times where you can make enough money to keep the lights on by doing commissions. Instead of being haughty and demanding more money and treating people who can't pay like crap, you should be thankful as hell. Because there was a time not long ago, that if you couldn't handle a blowtorch, or lift an iron girder, then you wouldn't even be able to put bread on the table. And I rather think that most of the whining artists of today who think and talk like that are completely incapable of such consistent physical ability that was considered work worth real pay to begin with.
So be thankful, and stop sounding so damned spoiled.
Holy fuck, it's like you bottled up every period you've had in your 50 year life and just released it all at once.
0:33 did anyone notice the satellite of love?
Who's the singer?
im not sure but i think its jonathan coulton
It's in the credits at the end of the video.
Jonathan Coulton (sorry if I spelt that wrong) he's the same guy who wrote "Still Alive" which plays at the end of the game Portal.
MrIrrelevantComments Yeah you spelt it right. :) He also did his own acoustic version of Still Alive which is worth a listen.
MrIrrelevantComments If I remember correctly, JC was also the composer of the entire Orange Box and Portal 2, with the exception of the track "Exile Vilify" from Portal 2, which was by The National. He may have also been the performer (though on Orange Box, it's credited to The Valve Symphony Orchestra and on P2, it's credited to Aperture Science Psychoacoustic Laboratories, except again, Exile Vilify).
OMG I just went to watch yesterday and saw their premier of Godzilla (1998) and when saw this came on I LOST MY SHIT.
Thank you Harry for helping out an amazing group of talent :D
Harry...Please stop to sell out.
That what happens when an artist does a job he does not want to do. Sigh... But everyone needs money.
TheAsatot
He is a RIFFTRAX fan! How is this in any way selling out?
God shut up, until you have tried animating and seeing how hard it can be to earn money then you have no right to talk about the matter. This is his JOB and a JOB is to earn MONEY. Okay, let's have it your way, he won't take animation jobs, he'll upload a video just for youtube every few months, earn a couple hundred bucks... oh look, he's been evicted and all of his stuff has been repossessed.
It's not selling out, if it's paid it's called making a living, if it's free it's called a passion project. Selling out would be going against your morals for money.
Yeah he's asked by people to make animations and gets paid to do something that he loves, what a sellout.
I hope your animation style brings some new people into the rifftrax scene, not enough people know about the MST3k crew. The harry potter rifftrax (1-6) made me and my friends lose control of our bowels... especially the hagrid bits.
This video could just as well be a diss on rifftrax lol.
What the hell is the frame rate of this? 15 billion frames per second? Jesus Christ, this must've taken like 20 years to finish. Amazing animation as usual, Harry, only thing I can say is in some parts the animation is too, I don't know how to explain it, consistent? Like, the part when the guy in the red shirt goes to open his door, his movement is really robotic looking and slow, not very natural. It's like it's TOO perfect haha, I'm used to seeing your animation be free-er looking and bouncier. And when the red shirt guy is getting trampled, his flailing doesn't look very... flaily, just kinda looks like he's doing an interpretive dance or something haha. I'm just trying to say, the animation is like, perfect, but it's not as charming as yours usually is. Still great though, keep up the good work! The RiffTrax guys must be proud.
dammit Harry, you put fucking real animation teams to shame! awesome work!
Whoah whoah whoah... hang on a second... Harry Partridge, Jonathan Coulton, and the Rifftrax team all working together? Did... did a genie grant my wish without me realizing it?
wow the song is so bad
I see Mr. B Natural on that couch. Awesome!!! XD
It just blows me away that you were able to work with Rifftrax. That is just so cool!
Great animation, terrible song
Wow is Rifftrax that much of an industry?
I wish I could do something creative with Harry. He is very talented it would be an honor.
