I wish I found this last week. Been trying to find a way to let friends see files without being on my network and also protect my nas. DDNNS doesn't seem to work or quick connect. I hope you're still making these great tutorials!!
The first concept you showed - the method of sharing a folder and sending a link, doesn't allow for someone to use the link and then be able to upload files to the shared folder. Am I missing something?
good question . i have shared a folder with friends and they can download files but there seems to be no way for them to upload a file to that folder.. HOW???
Hello, thanks for the video. Still trying to create a FILE REQUEST for a friend but the link won't work. I tried to change the file permissions but also did not work. Do you have any other ideas what might prevent this?
I had a similar issue with a NAS that was using DDNS. Once I removed the DDNS hostname, File Request started working. Not saying this is your issue, just sharing what I experienced.
Hi, thanks for watching. I don’t have any hard statistics, but in my opinion & my environment, I find Quick Connect to be faster than VPN. Your mileage may vary.
Downloading files over internet gives me crc errors when trying to unrar them, but when i download files over LAN there are no errors. Any suggestions?
Could be caused by several things. Try restarting computer and NAS. Also, did you try from a different computer? It could be something specific to the machine you’re using.
Hey guys, any help with beeing able to review the video or the file and not been directed to just download the file - I wan the external user review without the need to download it. please help :) btw thank you for the video :)
Very useful demo thank you! Let's imagine I have a script file (.cmd) which needs to access files stored on the Synology file server. Can I map that shared folder to let's say M: and program the script to locate the files into M:? (for example copy M:\toto.txt C:\)
I’m not familiar enough with Wordpress, however, i believe if this is possible it would be a feature within Wordpress. The Synology would be just a storage location.
Thanks for the easy to understand instructions. Is there any way to share a folder where they can (remotely) just download the folder and not have it automatically converted to a zip file that they then must extract?
Thanks Tony, is there a way I can share a folder with someone remote where we can both upload and download files (both being able to see all the files in that folder)? Thanks!
Hello Shez, thanks for watching. Yes, this can be accomplished, simply give that user read/write permissions to the shared folder. If the other user is within the same physical location as the NAS, they'll have full access to that folder. If the user is in a remote location, they can access the NAS using your Quick Connect URL. The shared folder will be available to them in the File Station. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Great demonstration! Just filmed a full 15 minutes of a concert that my friend was in the band for, and she obviously wanted the video, and this is a great way to get it over in full resolution!
It's not as versatile as Google drive unfortunately. You can't for instance in Synology share a file, but set the file as only to be viewable. The user can then view, but not download, print or copy the file with Google drive file sharing settings.
Do you know why when I share a link with someone, it keeps asking them to log into their Synology account? I've got all of the settings set up properly, sharing with "anyone with a link can access" etc. No password set or anything, but it keeps asking them to log in? What am I missing?
if the folder is shared with a DSM user, can they upload files from their own computer to NAS or they can only view the files when the folder is shared?
Hi Tony thanks for the video I am currently doing this to collaborate with an overseas video editor and am trying to share around 500Gb of 4k video footage. My question is how can I speed up the download speed for the video editor download overseas he has good internet connection but is taking him really long to download all of the footage. Thanks for your help in advance!
So this is based on many factors. Your network, the Internet, and your editor’s network. Since the files are sitting on your NAS, when the editor is downloading, it starts at your NAS. So, is your network 1G or 10G backbone? What is your WAN upload? What is your editor’s network configuration, is it 1G or 10G. What is their WAN download speed etc? All these variables come into play, so when you ask what can be done to improve his download speeds. Here’s a bunch of stuff to consider. Have a great day.
@@QuikTechSolutions well my Synology is upgraded with the 10GBe card from Synology and directly plugged into my Comcast router. I believe my bottle neck might be my Comcast internet plan which only allows for up to 20mbps upload speed. I will ask the editor for their internet download speed. I might need to contact Comcast or see if there is faster internet available for my address to speed up my upload.
I'm located in US. My download connection is 960mbps and upload is 840mbps. My editor is in Brazil, and his download speed is 540mbps. The problem is, when he try to download anything from my nas by using a web link, he gets 350kbps download speed. That makes me really angry. Synology say it's my ISP fault, but isn't. I'll probably return my 723+
Is the web link you speak of by means of Synology’s Quick Connect? If so, you may want to try a service like Zerotier or Tailscale to connect the two devices.
Hi Simon, thanks for watching! Synology NAS can be used as an FTP Server, more info in this article - kb.synology.com/en-ca/DSM/tutorial/How_to_access_files_on_Synology_NAS_via_FTP. However, not sure that FTP is what’s operating under the hood of Synology Drive.

Hello tony
How can external user upload larger files using file request??
if I use 'Quickconnect' will file transfer/upload be slower than using a VPN?
Hi, thanks for watching. I don’t have any hard statistics, but in my opinion & my environment, I find Quick Connect to be faster than VPN. Your mileage may vary.
What are the permissions set to on the new shared folder ?
I left them default which is Read/Write for the user, Admins, and No Access for Guest.
fantastic, thank you very much
Thanks for watching! Glad you found the video helpful. Have a great day!
Awesome vid! Thanks for the tutorial!
Glad you liked it! Have a great day.
Great video. Do you know if there is a way to get a notification when a file request has been uploaded to our Synology NAS?
Not that I know of, however, great idea. Hope Synology is listening. :)
@@QuikTechSolutions me too. Just submitted it as a feature request!!!
i only have the option for local ip and not over the internet. can someone help me with that?
Hello! Thanks for watching! Sounds like you aren’t signed into your Quick Connect account on that NAS?
How can I upload a file from my NAS to a FTP server? Is that done using the Task Scheduler? If so, do I need to write an own script or else? Thanks

Can you make a tutorial with it? THank you!
Hello Shun, thanks for watching. That’s exactly what this video is about.

@@QuikTechSolutions He's asking you lol. If you are not sure if it's possible all you have to do is say that.

Hey Christan, if it’s a DSM user just create a shared folder and give the user the proper privilege.
