One of the most profound Pieces of music ever. Bach was 22 years old the time he composed this. And the performance is as perfect as always. Such a delight to watch a band of devoted musicians performing a masterpiece of music in perfection, Thanks!
Yes, the viola da Gamba and lute is so beautiful together, in addition to organ as basso continuo and no harpsichord. The piece is great before it even starts
Sir John Eliot Gardiner has highly recommended this Cantata for those who are suffering from bereavement. Let's not forget how Bach uses music to bring life to eternal feelings of sorrow and comfort.
@@ru99414, Bach mostly uses the Viol or in Italian Viola da Gamba if he talks about death. The movements of Bach including a Solo or ad libitum Viol are among the most touching and saddest movements ever written by Bach.

Without any doubt one of the most beautifull and mooving cantata of Bach. Very original instrumentarium used by Bach with the two recorders and viola da gamba. Also a great presence of the choir. The presence of the recorders assumes that the subject of this masterpiece is related to death... It is interesting to notice that, at the begining of barock era, Monteverdi used recorder for the pieces related to joy and Bach for the death. Bravo!
Marvellous interpretation. The soprano's Ja komt Herr Jesu aria is beautiful beyond words, and the silence at 11:50... The other soloists also give outstanding, moving performances.

This cantata shows the versatility of Bach. In this case the absence of violins for example. Although the musical sensitivity and sublime melody only a genius like Bach could composed it. The voices are amazing. The orchestration is flawless.Viva Bach !!!!

A genuine masterpiece and performed masterfully! I like the slow tempo and exquisite orchestration of the Sonatina from Actus Tragicus. This was performed at my mothers funeral - she died in a car crash at only 48 years of age. I myself played the Sonatina on the organ at my grandmothers funeral and also at several other funerals too. The soloists are marvellously good especially the bass!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
for in Him we live, and move, and have our being
Acts 17:28
Amen. 🥲🥲
Bravo!
God himself created J.S. Bach and He saw that was Good !!!
Marvellous interpretation. The soprano's Ja komt Herr Jesu aria is beautiful beyond words, and the silence at 11:50... The other soloists also give outstanding, moving performances.
I agree, she was lovely! It’s too bad the video edit didn’t include more shots of her, such as at 10:38 where we can enjoy her relaxed whole body expression!
Ce silence donne des frissons...
_Ja, komm, Herr Jesu, komm!_ Not "Ja komt."
Gottes Zeit ist die Zeit, Bach zu hören.
God's time is the time to hear Bach.
Bach, is a passage to God's time.
This cantata shows the versatility of Bach. In this case the absence of violins for example. Although the musical sensitivity and sublime melody only a genius like Bach could composed it. The voices are amazing. The orchestration is flawless.Viva Bach !!!!
Plan to have this played at my funeral. I can keep it together until the last movement. Something about the change in key and the gorgeous harmony grants catharsis. How poor young Johann must have suffered to write something like this so young.
