It's about both. It depends on what the person concealing their license plate is doing. If it's just evading tolls, then yes it's about money. If they run red lights or crash into someone and drive off, then it becomes about safety.

REMOVE the tolls. Every gallon of gasoline or Diesel has a huge tax per gallon in it - raising the price per gallon - to supposedly provide the funds to maintain the roadway.
I live on the West Coast. People with a bunch of money are clamoring for more tolls and tolled HOV lanes. However, years ago we drove completely across country all the way back east. Never forget the "Chicago" experience. Pay a toll to get ON a bridge - and also had to pay a Toll to GET OFF the same Bridge. Crossing a river or lake or something. Totally Insane.

You all want to use the road but complain about having to pay for it by tolls, and if there are no tolls, then you will next complain about higher taxes to cover it. People always demand more government services, more infrastructure, more police, more everything but when it comes time to pay for it they clutch their purse-strings. People seem to think that the Government throws their money away or frits it into the pockets of "politicians".
And then when people get fined for jumping turnstiles or dodging tolls they tell others about how BS it is for them to be forced to pay for a service they use when they "pay so much in tax already!"
This attitude reeks of entitlement. These services cost money, and that bill needs to be paid somehow.
Like taxes, there’s no such thing as a temporary toll. No matter how it was sold to the public, no matter the promises made, no matter the payoff projections, there will always be an excuse to keep it, and even increase it.
Imagine your great grandpa paid taxes to have bridges built. You paid registration fees with road taxes to have bridges and roads fixed while the government doesn't use funds responsibly.

New York has far more pressing issues then tinted license plates. Amazon not shipping the plates to New York is no issue. A person can simply order the plates and have it delivered to someone else in another state and that person then ships it to them. They're always a workaround.

Both the State of NY and the NYC will have major problems on their hands if they were unable to keep up with upkeep for their roads and bridges as well as pay contractors that often preform most of the work. I can imagine if this problem doesn't go away, they're going to start insisting everyone switch their license plates out for new ones, and then not tell you the new ones have rfids in them so they don't need to read the plate.
If you don’t want people to avoid the cameras don't make it so hard to pay the tolls. No one is ever in the booth to take cash. I called every day for two months trying to pay my toll of 16$ and I kept being told I owed nothing until I got a threatening letter! You created this situation!

If your plates covered in the south(GA) you're getting pulled the fuck over and 100% getting a ticket. Ive been driving in BK for almost 15 years and cops just don't pull people over here. I understand why cops can't pull everyone over but it's why people "risk it" or play dumb.

I can clean my plates off before I leave home after a snowfall and by the time I get to work 15 minutes later, they are covered up once again.
Personally, I don't know why people don't just use that "Spray" that reflects the camera light back onto itself. You only have to spray your plates after you wash your vehicle and it will not only disrupt cameras but cop car plate readers as well. If you get pulled over, the cops can't even tell you are using it just that their plate reader wasn't able to read the plate LOL. It's expensive but if you live in a State that allows traffic cameras and you like to speed, it will pay for itself on Day One.

Why is the city government always caught with its pants down when the market responds to new policy or laws? If the government repeatedly raises fares for public transit, then it is likely more of the public will try to evade paying fares. If the government decides to award only a handful of licenses to sell marijuana in a city of 8 million people, then you should expect a lot of businesses to sell marijuana without a license. If the government repeatedly raises tolls for bridges, tunnels, and roads, then it is predictable more drives will try to evade tolls. Government officials may find it convenient to pretend that the response to enacting policy will be anything but complete acceptance and obedience by the public, but most of us live in reality where we are expected to be able to deal with the foreseeable consequences from our actions. This is just more proof that the government is being run by people who are incapable of critical thinking and unwilling to accept the responsibility for solving complex problems. The public deserves better solutions than constantly hiking fares, tolls, fees, fines, and taxes.
The govt is being run by money interests; the more money you have the more you can affect the govt to make those with less money than you pay more than you in service fees.

Here’s another loophole: I-287 into Long Island as a TOLLESS tunnel which could’ve been done in 2015 had it not been for the NIMBYs of Bayville & Oyster Bay & Cuomo For canceling it. Bayville Ave. would be Exit 14 from Exits 13&12 N-S from Westchester. Jericho Tpke. (NY-25- Manhattan-Orient Point Ferries) would be Exits 23 W-E/E-W.
I heard of a subway tunnel that was never completed. Never heard of a car tunnel too.

Infrared flood lights. Since its only a dim red light. Or not at all visible. Most laws refer to visable light and color specific. Then there is ir tape that reflects white. No need to cover a plate when blinding a camera by its own flash.

Notice your ticket is always B/W photo. So IR will appear white. Cars are never photo from front cause headlights. Cameras are hidden behind usually dirty glass, at an angle and elevated. To catch the plates that are (TILTED UPWARDS) 🤨 so fix that make the plate straight vertical. Add ir flood light to sides or even in you back window. Or ad tactical glint tape pieces to things 👌. Micro glass beads catch light from angles making some shot from an angle over bright. The more angle the more glare.
Request custom plates with I's and 1's any glare makes the OCR impossible to read them. Example. I1I 1I1 most states the camera has to be real close to distinguish. Red light cameras are to high and to far.
now police departments need to crack down on its officers with plate covers and reflective material that blocks their plate numbers on their personal vehicles.
I've been noticing a lot of those tinted plate covers here in NJ in the last couple years. I have no idea if they are legal or not in this state though. Maybe, maybe not.
Shouldn't cops pull over cars with those cover plates? It seems the way to do it is for the cops to not remove the cover... and impound the car instead since the driver cannot show a registration matching the plate.
In most (if not all) states, intentional obscuring of a license plate is a misdemeanor crime (some allow the dark covers & some don't), and having a false, stolen, or fake plate is potentially a felony.
Just spray a clear coat over your plate and it will reflect the camera from getting a picture. Also deflects police radar.

Automated fees and citations, such as speeding tickets, should be illegal. Either make them illegal or trust in them so completely that you don't need cops to enforce them. Cops are a strain on the taxpayer afterall and cutting costs were the justification for the cameras.

Automated tolling needs to be banned. There are countless victims of counterfeit license plates. The counterfeit plate racks up thousands of dollars in tolls with a fake plate then the government comes looking for the real owner of the plate. The victim gets arrested their car impounded has to pay thousands of dollars in legal fees, they lose their job because they were in jail. You've got states putting toll cameras on roads that were paid for by the taxpayers. That should be illegal as toll roads should be privately funded.
Tolls are the fairest way of paying for expensive bridge maintenance. Why should I, as a taxpayer, be forced to maintain a bridge I don't use?
toll cameras also capture the vehicle. They would need a similar vehicle too.
@@alb12345672 most of the time the counterfeit plate isn't on the correct type of car yet they still go after the plate owner. If you were criminal how hard is it to find someone with a similar car to yours take a picture their license plate and order a counterfeit off the internet. The more automated our government and law enforcement has become the more innocent people have been victimized. Just look at facial recognition technology, it misidentifies black people 80% of the time, yet police say the computer says it's you even when you have proof you are not the person they're looking for.
