Hello! I have been going through UA-cam looking for new channels. I am very happy I found you! You have a great personality! I was going to do a planned pooling tutorial but I think I will just send my subs to you. I may do one many months from now but yours is so good I don’t think I can do any better😊❤️
I just discovered this technique after decades of crotchet and knitting. It's so cool. I went right out and I bought wool to try it. This video was super helpful in figuring it out. Something that you might want to talk about is adjusting the pattern at the sides to keep the diagonal. It messed me up a few times. 😊 I found the way you explained this to be very clear. Thanks so much!
I've gotta say, you are very good at explaining each step you take, and why you take it. I'm a person who needs to know why, in order to absorb and learn. Thank you so much for expanding my crochet possibilities. ✌️
I used 3-12oz skeins of of Caron Jumbo and a little bit of Mainstays anti-pilling acrylic to do the border. You will love doing color pooling. It is amazing to watch the pattern develop! 😁💜
Halfway thru this second video and I feel my brain expanding! I am gaining understanding from your teaching. I can totally do this!! I will be able to do this:) Thank you!
24:10 _Colour pooling can be a bit tricky, it is not for the faint of heart ._ ;) Let me add: it is not for those who do not like to plan. As the fabric is manipulated tensions wise, sometimes loose sometimes firm to get the right amount of stitches in the right place - it might be better suited for larger pieces (within larger pieces this will sort itself out. And the projects should be squar. Increases and decreases would upset the whole pattern It could be nice for a bag (with an inside bag of woven fabric of course).
Ok, I actually tried this instead of just saying how cool it looked like most other comments... Let me share a tip to save you HOURS of frustration like I had (the video falls very short of explaining this)... Knowing where to repeat the sequence is KEY. my yarn was very similar to hers but had "magic numbers" of 2,3,(6x)2 - in other words, a sequence that repeated after a set of 17 stitches. It did NOT work out the way she instructs here. I actually had to spilt a stitch color section mid way to start a new row. Now it's perfect. I literally had to find out how the stitches worked out on grid paper first to find out where my break should be. If you do this: the even rows are shifted to the right by 1/2 and have the same number of stitches in each row. Once I did that ground work, it's coming out perfectly. I can't believe this wasn't stressed more. It's essential. Lastly, once you start that 3rd row where you can check to make sure your pattern is right and you're good - from there just remember the color of the stitch you're making should be the same color as the lined up row below it and the very last stitch in that magic number for that color shouldn't. Very very easy way to keep track. So if I have a number of two: the first stitch will match the color below but not my second stitch. If I had a number of 3: the first two should match below but not the third. I hope this saves at least one person from almost giving up after undoing the entire work like 6 times. Good grief.😢
If you pay attention to row 2 in the video, it does, in fact, split the color way. She may not have stressed that she was splitting it but did say to crochet the color way to the end and turn and crochet back to the beginning of the color way thus splitting it. 🤷♀️It worked perfectly for me doing that.
Making sure every other row is diagonal sounds scary until I remember the orange/purple/orange is 1 less stitch total than the blue/white/blue so the first row having two orange/purple/orange and the second row having the second blue/white/while at least helps us know the third row is gonna start the orange/purple/orange offset from the first row. We just have to hope it’s offset by 1 stitch and not more lol. This is honestly really cool, and I’m scared to try it with all the guess and check it takes
Oh my! You are amazing!!!!!!! You’re answering all my questions without even asking 😅 I am so glad I found you! Thank you for your amazing tutorials ❤🎉
I am getting very lost at the end of row 2. Somehow you got your blue yarn to have one stitch at the end of row 2, and one at the beginning of row 3, do that it shifts and makes the diagonal. I keep ending up with the same colors on the same row, just stacking them.
That happens sometimes. In this video I show how to use a half double crochet to “hack” the diagonal if you’re interested. How to Color Pool//Mainstays Blue Multi//tutorial ua-cam.com/video/hUtumuYqCnM/v-deo.html
Well. I watched you and made several attempts but after about 8 tries and several hours of failures finally I think I got it! On row three I had to crochet past a factory knot😮watching your video showed me how to tie in. Thanks so much!
Girrrrl!!!! I wish I knew how to write the sound of a DEEP inhalation of breath because it needs to be inserted right HERE!!! 😲😱 I'm new to crochet and had no idea of the magic it could create! With my very limited knowledge, I assumed multiway yarn was for stripes... I am SO happy your video came up in my recommendations 🥰 Its 3.50am here in chilly old England, and I've been trying to get some sleep, but it turns out I don't have time for sleep now coz I need to get on this ASAP!! 🤭 This tutorial is amazing, thank you so much 🥰
@It's Time for Yarn So, I'm sulking right now. My beautiful yarn has deceived me 😪 The transitions are too long! 😫 It's probably a good thing really, if I'm honest with myself, as I already have a few projects on the go, but that's not the point and I hate not being able to give things a go immediately. I guess that means I'm 'forced' to buy some new yarn 🤷🏽♀️😋
@@openorwap5412 did you watch the 3rd video in this series? It uses the granny stitch and lends itself to longer color changes. It may still be a lost cause but it's worth a try. This is DEFINITELY a good reason to yarn shop.
@@ItsTimeforYarn I did, yes! Thank you for reminding me, I was too wrapped up in the injustice of it all 😆 I was hoping to use my Cygnet Boho Spirit yarn, with its BEAUTIFUL metallic peacock colours, so maybe I still can, yay! 🙌🏼 🥰
@@openorwap5412 I really hope it works for you. I LOVE peacock colors. They are all of my favorite colors. My late father raised peacocks so they will always have a special place in my heart.
Yes. It’s definitely a mint color. Blue is just what kept coming to mind and I went with it for the sake of keeping my train of thought as I was filming. 😁
Excellent explanation. I may actually be able to accomplish this but think I will make a scarf as i am not sure I can think long enough to make an afghan. Thanks for such details and a great tutorial.
You are going to love it! It’s a little finicky at first but then it’s smooth sailing. I was amazed when I realized I could use variegated yarn to make cool patterns and became slightly obsessed with watching tutorials until I figured it out. I crocheted swatches for 3 days straight to prepare for this tutorial. 😁💜
what a stunning pattern! I definitely want to try this out the next time I make a blanket. Can you recommend any bulkier yarn (maybe around a 6) that plays well with these principles? Thanks!
Bernat has a blanket yarn that is designed specifically for color pooling. Bulky 6 is my favorite yarn so I am on the hunt for variegated urns that color pool. 😁💜
I’ve watched your first video in this series and now this one, and I’m wondering, why moss stitch? Is it just a favorite of yours? Could simple single crochet achieve the color pooling too? I understood the reason for Granny stitch in the other blanket since it’s bulky, but still curious about why you recommend moss stitch. Thanks for the tutorials, I haven’t crocheted in a long time but this would be a fun one to restart with!!
Welcome back to the crochet community! We’ve missed you. 😁💜 I use the moss stitch because for me, it is easier to see how many stitches I have in each color and to control where they land. I have seen others use single crochet to color pool but I have never been successful with it because the stitches get too close together and I lose track. I recommend that you give each of them a go and decide what works best for you. Can’t wait to see your color pooling. You can email a picture or message me on Instagram (no pressure though. Just fun and encouragement!)
I love this so much and cant wait to experiment with it!! Just wondering though, what do you do with the rest of rhe u used chain after figuring put your stitch number and color pattern? ❤
You simply unravel it. I do the same thing with other patterns because it relieves the pressure of having the “right” amount of chains for a project. 😁💜
This is only a sample piece. It’s made to determine the number of stitches and hook size for the yarn that you actually have. Once you know all this, then you can start your actual project.
Hey Erica, I'm finding it difficult to work out my colourway... I have 17 changes before the repeat. Do I do one row of the 17 changes, then turn and start my second row with the same 17 stacked on top?
this is really cool! but to solve your tension issue when turning the work couldnt you make the row one stitch shorter and treat the "bar" as one of your allocated stitches for the current colour?
I think it would work initially, however, as the pattern progresses, that stitch will travel diagonally across the work and will need to be adjusted to only one stitch every time. I do this with a half double crochet when I need to in order to control the color. 😁💜
@@ItsTimeforYarn I like to make scarfs using different patterns and textures. I guess I like quick results. I also made afghans for family and friends. Your work is really well done and gorgeous. I just would not put in the time. I enjoyed watching and learning about pooling.

It can be very tedious at first but it is so much fun once you get going.
Thank you, you are such a good teacher. I understand color pooling way better now, learning from you 😊❤ thx 😅
So happy to help! 😁💜
Your tutorials are my number 1 for color pooling. Thank you! ❤

Beautiful and satisfying patterns - but a lot of work 😬😅
You are talented definitely!! God bless you ❤ and thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you so much! 💜😁
You make me feel that even I can do this.
I bet you could!
Moss stitch sure is easier in crocheting Vs knitting
Thank you for this video. I’ve come back to crochet after many yrs of leaving it ❤
Yay! Welcome back! 😁💜
Thanks for sharing. Your patience is incredible
Thanks for watching! I could say the same for your patience. 💜😁
On to round 3~! hehe Thanks again!
You’re very welcome! 😁💜
This is fabulous. Thank you so much. I am going to definitely be trying this.
You’re going to love it! 😁💜

@@ItsTimeforYarn I was having the same problem and this completely fixed it! Thanks!
Absolutely beautifully explained, thank you!

Well. I watched you and made several attempts but after about 8 tries and several hours of failures finally I think I got it! On row three I had to crochet past a factory knot😮watching your video showed me how to tie in. Thanks so much!
You’re very welcome! I’m so glad you stuck with it and found success! 💜😁
This is amazing! I feel empowered to do it myself based on these two videos. Thank you!
I’m so happy to hear that. You can do it! 💜😁
Thank you - love your instructions!

I am so excited to find this type of yarn now! Thank you!!!
You’re very welcome! Color pooling totally changed my view of variegated yarns as well. You will love it! 💜😁

Yay I found part 2 can't wait to see how you did this
Thanks for posting! Great info, I’m excited for part 3 😃
Can't wait to get it up. Color pooling is so much fun once you get the hang of it!
@@ItsTimeforYarn it’s intimidating but you are presenting it in a way that I can understand, so I appreciate it!
@@ShannonTalksYarn Yes!!! That's exactly what I was aiming for!
Wow. You have just opened a whole new concept to me. Thank you
You're so welcome! Once I learned about color pooling, I have never looked at variegated yarn the same way again. You are going to love it! 😁💜
Great show, I wish you a great day! good morning 🌻🌻🌻
Thanks for watching. A great day to as well!
Your vibe is just so sweet and amazing. Love watching your videos. You are so talented!!

Thank you for this tutorial. It’s what clicked for me.
You’re very welcome! I’m so happy that I was able to help. Once you get it, it really is addictive! 💜😁
🤭 This tutorial is amazing, thank you so much 🥰
Thank you so much! I was amazed as well when I first learned about color pooling. You will never look at variegated yarn the same way again! 😁💜
What you call blue I call green. I wonder if it's my monitor? But that color to me is mint green, one of my favorite colors.
Yes. It’s definitely a mint color. Blue is just what kept coming to mind and I went with it for the sake of keeping my train of thought as I was filming. 😁
I'm unironically going to call my crochet hooks my magic wands from now on lol
When color pooling, they are DEFINITELY magic wands. 😁💜

Yeees! Go ‘head momma! 😁💜
So fascinating. Great tutorial 👌

Excellent explanation. I may actually be able to accomplish this but think I will make a scarf as i am not sure I can think long enough to make an afghan. Thanks for such details and a great tutorial.
I hope you give it a try. You can do it!

How did you see the color pooling and figure out how to do this. You are brilliant!! I can hardly wait to try this!!
So educational and cool pooling

@@ItsTimeforYarn I knit, not crochet. But it makes me think about custom dying a color way with sharp repeats and trying it.

Fabulous tutorial!!!
Thank you!

Love yarn pooling. 💗
I do too! Every time I see a variegated yarn, I can’t help but wonder what it would look like pooled.
what a stunning pattern!
I use the moss stitch because for me, it is easier to see how many stitches I have in each color and to control where they land.
It’s Time For Yarn, is this why variegated yarn is created? Has there been a method to the madness this. entire. time???
Right?! I felt the same way. I have been using variegated yarns incorrectly MY ENTIRE LIFE! 😁💜
Thanks for sharing.
You’re very welcome I’m glad you’re here. 😁
This is amazing, thank you so much ❤️
You're very welcome! 😁💜
Thank you so much!
Absolutely! Thanks for watching 😁
I saw a free pattern and thought of you. Its Yarnspirations red heart color pooling argyle poncho.
That sounds cool. I’ll have to check it out! 😁
This is so cool. I’m going to rewatch again!!!
I agree. It is so cool. Watching the pattern reveal itself is mesmerizing!
This may be answered in your next tutorial of the series but … you didn’t get to the end of your chain, what do you do with what is left?
This is only a sample piece. It’s made to determine the number of stitches and hook size for the yarn that you actually have. Once you know all this, then you can start your actual project.
Great question. I forgot to show it but you simply take out the knot at the end and unravel it. 😁💜
Hey Erica, I'm finding it difficult to work out my colourway... I have 17 changes before the repeat. Do I do one row of the 17 changes, then turn and start my second row with the same 17 stacked on top?
I will help if I can. Would you please email me a picture of your work so I can take a look at it.
Itstimeforyarn@gmail.com
this is really cool! but to solve your tension issue when turning the work couldnt you make the row one stitch shorter and treat the "bar" as one of your allocated stitches for the current colour?
I think it would work initially, however, as the pattern progresses, that stitch will travel diagonally across the work and will need to be adjusted to only one stitch every time. I do this with a half double crochet when I need to in order to control the color. 😁💜
Bless you, I so would not put that much thought into creating that pattern. It really is gorgeous, but I would not crochet this type.
I totally understand! We all have our thing that we enjoy. What do you like to make?
@@ItsTimeforYarn I like to make scarfs using different patterns and textures. I guess I like quick results. I also made afghans for family and friends. Your work is really well done and gorgeous. I just would not put in the time. I enjoyed watching and learning about pooling.
@@RMurrell31 I’m glad you enjoyed it! I love teaching people things.
Scarves are beautiful and I love the idea of making them but being a Florida girl, we don’t really need scarves so I don’t make them much. I tend to make dish rags as my for quick results projects. 😆
@@ItsTimeforYarn I live in South Texas and it would seem silly to do scarfs, but, I donate to shelters up north and I have family and friends living up north and on the upper east coast. I too do dish cloths and find that quick and satisfying.
@@RMurrell31 I’ve never thought to ship them north as a donation. Thanks for the inspiration!
