One JazzyTyger we don’t really know the details, but most likely the original rappers gave them the rights to their likenesses in video games. Kinda like how marvel sold Spider-Man to Sony for movies

It wouldn't make sense though, since the rappers in it are not relevant anymore (I mean us old heads still listen to them, but what would be the incentive for younger people to buy it). If they ever do a new one they'll have Quavo and Travis Scott and Young Thug in them 😂😂😂

This game was THE perfect storm. Def Jam as a label still had relevance, the rise of Southern hip hop and Crunk when the game came out, the AKI engine that made WCW vs. NWO Revenge, WWF No Mercy, and Def Jam Vendetta bonafide classics, and hip hop artists who were over the top and brash that fit perfectly with a video game. You'll never be able to recreate that.
This to me is the best fighting game ever... simple .. but deep enough... characters with character... 4 player battles.. great stages and the best fight ending system in any game.. you can finish a fight with a toe like... I love this game.
I was taking to a friend of mine about this game a couple days ago, he had never heard of it, and I was just reminiscing of how much fun I had as a kid playing fight for NY
As a life long lover of hip hop and video games, as was utterly amazed and completely obsessed with the Def Jam games as a kid. I’d be one of the first in line to buy a new installment in the series.
One thing you didn’t mention about why this game is so beloved; all the AKI engine wrestling games are beloved, this is the pinnacle of that engine used in an incredibly imaginative way. I’m actually working on an engine that I hope will be very similar in a lot of ways to the AKI engine for a project I’m working on.
I still remember when I was 7, it was this cab that used to come pick me and my homie up to take us to this school in the suburbs on the fridays in the summer. 1 day a cab driver got out the car at a gas station and left 110 dollars in the mirror above the driver seat. My boy took it, don't know if he noticed or not but when we got home I took that shit from my from my homie and counted it in the bathroom it was 110.
