    Cedar, really nice looking choice of wood. And you don't have to poly the inside of the boxes if you want to as cedar handles moisture well as I'm sure you know. To remove the rough side of cedar lumber, I use my thickness planer as once set, you can run all the boards through quickly and they're in better shape dimensionally. Good stuff.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому

      I love cedar. It’s expensive but definitely one of my favorites. I was going to plane them, but my goal with this project was to keep it as simple as possible with limited tools...to hopefully appeal to renters who may not have a whole shop. But definitely if you have one, it would have worked much better than sanding 😅🙈😂

    Hi Sara, pretty cool garden ladder. I am curious how do you stop from kicking out the lower ladder? Can you fasten it to the baseboard trim with some chain or string?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому

      Thanks! You could but the whole point of this project is that it’s easily moved and doesn’t require any holes in the wall so it’s renter friendly. It stands alone on its own...like a floor mirror or a blanket ladder. It just leans against the wall and stays put. I really don’t see a concern of it slipping unless you’re really trying to.

  • @batman7035
    @batman7035 3 роки тому +1

    I don't understand how it stays up wright. Why don't the legs slide away from the wall?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому +1

      The legs are angled and it just leans against the wall. Like a floor mirror. Or blanket ladder. Or a regular ladder like you climb on.

    • @batman7035
      @batman7035 3 роки тому

      @@WoodshopDiaries if I wasn't careful and knocked it with my foot while walking by would it try to fall?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому +1

      It’s pretty sturdy. My dog ran into mine chasing a toy and it didn’t fall over. If you place the angled bottom flat on the floor, it’s going to stay put pretty well...just like a regular ladder.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому

      Miter saw? Any saw would work fine for this. Miter saw not required 😄

  • @Euroky1
    @Euroky1 3 роки тому

    Great design. Two questions: I know itd limit that top shelf, but why not angle the tops of the brackets, too? And do you have any concern about water leaking through the bottoms of the pots and damaging the wood?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому

      You could angle the tops as well if you wanted. I just didn’t because my miter saw doesn’t go to 75 degrees to angle the tops to go flat against the wall. There are other ways to cut it though, but I was just trying to keep it simple. I don’t have any concerns about water because I plugged the pots. But if you didn’t want to plug them, just add saucers on the bottom. My pots came with saucers, I just plugged them instead.

    • @Euroky1
      @Euroky1 3 роки тому +1

      I see, about the saucers or plugging your pots. Il try that, though I’m worried I’ll swamp them.
      As for the angle, if you clamp a 45° fence to your miter saw fence, then you can readjust the arm from 45° and add the difference. I.E., move the miter stop to 30°, plus your 45° fence would make it 75°. Just sayin’...

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому

      I’m not sure what you mean...I don’t understand which parts you’re saying are separating. You could go back and add a screw if the joint needs some strength.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому +1

      Where the shelves meet the ladder sides or the sides of the shelves are separating from the bottom? Either way it sounds like either your glue was bad, you didn’t use enough, or it wasn’t a very tight fit. Either way, you can reinforce it with a screw
