worm territory is mentioned in the books and in the movies which implies territories without worms, so maybe you can only ride the bikes there.

No, they had to ask for permission to change the lore a bit. Now all lasers have a fail safe that stop them from firing when aiming at shields. @@Rockleelives777

@@arcqui4461mate a HUGE part of the dune universe is that guns dont work b/c of shields. + nowhere do you see houses/bases like whats built here. dune is entirely about relying on the human mind instead of machine, a game like this just doesn't work with it.
But out in the desert you can't use shields because the vibrations will attract the worms. I don't disagree about the weird laser building though@@moonlit_sky127

This is a game , it needs to be functional in terms of gameplay.
Am sure there will still be spacewizards and stuff. And in the dune universe there are still guns.

Conceptually, within the world of Dune, how does a MMO survival crafter make any sense?
I guess survival in the style that the fremen do, and MMO for the player interaction creating the political side and warfare.

The survival aspect is about water, sandstorms and other players, the mmo side is about decisions and warfare and finally the build aspect is represented by the possibility to build (and every week in the south) a small base/village, alone or with a group of friends/guild ^^

I like the fact that the game's title design is from Denis Villeneuve's film while the sandworm is from David Lynch's film
the sandworm is based on the descriptions from the book, though the uh shai-hulussy of villeneuve’s dune apparently also features in this game as being present in the deep desert. most of the aesthetic design of this game seems inspired by villeneuve’s film, but there are definitely differences. for instance, carryalls in this game use ornithopter-like wings rather than the balloons seen in the film. I like the design, I think they’ve taken the best of the films while not being afraid to make some original creative decisions.

Trailers almost always have it at max graphics. But since it’s powered by unreal engine 5.2 I would not be surprised if it looked like that or even better. But in the end dose graphics really matter? Isn’t it the gameplay that really matters?

I believe you start out with nothing besides a knife in the game, so you have to survive until you can find one

The thing that I would be looking forward to the most in this game would be the melee combat, the dagger fights were so intense in the movies and being able to have that here would not only be great, but essential for this game to survive
They wouldn't happen here... learn the lore if you're going to whine....
Most of the game takes place in the deserts... the Holtzman Shield (which is the reason swords/knives/etc are used) draws in sandworms and enrages them, making them more dangerous.... The reason that those Knife fights happen is because the movies shift in and out of being in and out of the desert... so when you're not in the desert you CAN have a shield as the worms won't be drawn in.
The reason that the Fremen use knives is different but the same.... sure they don't want to use shields and draw in the worms but guns also waste materials... so do most things that you will be doing in this game... You are NOT playing as a Fremen in the game and as such are not beholden to their standards and likely will act more like a house or other entity. Harkonnens do use guns, just not in places where the Holtzman Shield is... but there are several scenes where they send people into the desert to fight... and they do use guns (in the books).
@@baphomeat I already know this, which is why I said melee would be essential for this game if it’s taking place in a desert where vibrating tools like shields and guns would attract, obviously it would make sense for there to be places the worms aren’t gonna appear so other weapons could be used, I also never said anything about the fremen

But you did... because the Fremen are the ONLY faction who use exclusively melee... everyone else can and does use guns.
The devs have said that Vehicle, Melee, and Guns will all be viable options across the game... just like they are in the other media... but each come with various risks.

Man, I was looking forward to a Dune Video game. Why does it have to be a survival game? Please at least add a campaign. Or make it multiplayer (split-screen and online).
There’s Dune Spice Wars if that interests you. It’s an RTS game if I remember correctly
spice wars is a 4x grand strategy game, think more like stellaris rather than starcraft. i think the word rts gets thrown around for it because of the old dune rts games. but it’s nothing like those.

It being a survival game makes sense because... the deserts of Arrakis are pretty much BUILT for the genre.... I like the narrative and other style games in the Franchise but I am all too happy that there is going to be a survival game in the lineup now.

Si this is based on the 2021/24 movie’s take on the book but the worms are from the 1984 movie?
And the stillsuits, and even the main theme... This seems to be borrowing from both cinematic styles, as well as a lot of recent MMOs, and making something sleek and modern to fit the rising peak of the Dune franchise. The hype is real~

Movie game tie-ins are usually just cash grabs.
They should've made it more fighting oriented with various blades and swords where various levels, attack patterns, whether they are left or right handed, how much they weigh, how well connected they are with their other teammates, what armor they have, what nature in terms of fighting and what styles they know, and how well fed you are among other things all determine what you need to do against them.

People trying to use the lore in order to hate on this game are ridiculous.
Yes, guns exist within the Dune universe. Both lasguns AND projectile weaponry, like the Maula pistol.
Expanding on the tech available makes sense, so long as we don't get any thinking machines.
Not everything in Dune is about the rivalry beteeen the houses or the state of the imperium. Normal people exist, carving out their existing day by day. Not everyone's a mentat or a reverend mother or the freaking mahdi. It's only because the books deal with these higher level issues that we get the impression that the whole imperium is like this.
Arrakis is an old planet that MANY have tried to tame and/or terraform.
This could be an AU that utilizes the setting and lore as a backdrop.
Shields aren't used in the DEEP desert, because the vibrations caused by the constantly shifting sand against a Holtzman shield can drive a Worm into a frenzy.
Lasguns are risky to use due to the explosive reaction caused when striking a holtzman shield(not everyone or every army can afford tk deck their entire military with these shields-- again, in the books we only follow some of the wealthiest houses in the imperium. Of course they have the scratch-- so the conventional way of warfare has, "devolved," into melee skirmishes.
Maula pistols can pierce the shield.
This could also be set Post Scattering... After Paul removes the restrictions on travel within and beyond the imperium.
