Did the same thing to my pepper shaker, only drilled out half the holes a little bigger not all! Now the pepper comes out of the pepper shaker very easily even if some of the pepper is a little larger fleck then the others are. Does work well on watering cans too! Only bad part with doing this to water cans , is you run out of water faster and have to refill the water can more often! Guess you can’t have everything! Btw, same applies to the pepper shaker too, you do end up refilling it more often too! LOL
Thanks for this video, I have been looking for a functional watering can, I think this will do perfectly. I appreciate all of your no-nonsense advice, I have incorporated many of your ideas, which have made my gardening much better and easier 🌿
Thank-you!!! I didn't know that spray existed. I'll get it & use it immediately on a couple of my Behrens trashcans, especially around the bottoms & outer lid rims. Can looks good, too- especially the double handles. Your video saved my peas, too!
I have that watering can and it is great! It's the 2 gal size. I'm going to fix the head, as you did, so I can clean it. What a fabulous garden you have, by the way. It looks lush!
Gonna try this hack on some cans I have at home that haven't suited my uses for them! Thanks for the idea and the entertaining video. Love your garden/food forest.
Love this. Gardening is what I do for a living. Watching this I want to kick myself for not thinking of drilling the stinkin holes bigger myself! Hahaha Good on ya! Thanks!
Dan, you think of everything with that spray coating!! I’m gonna try my hand at gardening out of a galvanized trash cans this year. A lot cheaper than other containers. They’re tall, cheap, and I think I’m gonna put volcanic rock at the bottom.
Assuming you're not making a giant watering can, do you mean use the cans as planters? If so, great idea. They look pretty good, but man, they are super 'spensive now.
I've got an Old 1930's Original, thank you for the Zinc Spraying Tip ...I'm not certain about the bottom cos it leaks a bit but, maybe it can be welded...we will see.
So smart, and great video as usual! I was wondering if fresh squeezed lemon juice can be used instead of vitamin see, and if yes how many lemon per gallon of water? ☺
You can do a quick UA-cam search for a video titled, " Squeeze A Lemon Into Your Garden Watering Can And This Amazing Thing Happens To Your Plants!! " for more info. Cheers!
Yes sir great info on the video. What I not sure of is how much vit c and the other mineral you put in the water. Once you add this how do u keep the water from getting algae build up like I had before with a top on it
Good afternoon sir! Could you please tell me what that beautiful plant (bush)with the blue flowers all over it is ?I am bad of hearing and rewinded one of your videos a dozen times ? Thank you in advance . Watch all of your videos and enjoy them !
Most of the plastic cans are made of HDPE and can easily be welded shut. HDPE is endlessly recyclable. Many modern kayaks are made of HDPE and kayak owners frequently make their own repairs. Hobie makes a special welding kit for repairing HDPE kayaks. Harbor freight has a cheapo version that works. Hobie’s kit is more expensive but higher quality. You get what you pay for! But HDPE is so ubiquitous that it’s worth having a welding kit handy for a farm.
Water is my issue with everything down in SoCal. I’m in a 9b/10a area but with massive winds. I have added rock instead of mulch just because the wind takes the mulch away too. I’m looking at a great house but afraid the wind mess that up too. Any ideas/advice?
Is there a time allotment after you use fish emulsion before you harvest and eat the vegetables and fruits? I love to use it as it works great but I got salmonella (from undercooked fish at a restaurant we believe)one time and never want to go down that road again. So now when I think of using the fish emulsion, I worry about that. May be a crazy over paranoid question but I ended up in intensive care so as I said, hope to never do that again.
For those of you who don't want to buy a water can. A water jug or bottle with holes poked in works. Also i have one of those restraunt, refillable sauce containers, it's great for seedlings because you can control the stream with a gentle squeeze
Still waiting on that stainless steel watering can that should last a lifetime. A can could easily be made that would last a lifetime but they won't do it since selling watering cans is a big money maker.
Another vlog of yours just to gather views for your channel Thats alot of waste time using that old fashion way Just go to ace hardware and wand attach to the end of garden hose
My galvanized can is over 20 years old. I like the hack.
I just found this watering can at Goodwill for $5.99! What a steal! Thanks ☺️👍

Great info on the zinc spray. I have galvanized raised beds and this will extend their life. Thanks!
Binge watching all your videos before I begin my gardening. Thank you for your great, meticulous, practical way of gardening ideas.

Now is the time to spend your money on things that will last. Great idea how you fill your watering can. I'm going to adopt this idea thank you.
Me too. I have a large garden and I can have a few of these scattered around and just keep them full.

Beautiful garden.
Love this. Gardening is what I do for a living. Watching this I want to kick myself for not thinking of drilling the stinkin holes bigger myself! Hahaha Good on ya! Thanks!

Brilliant! Thank you for that!
this is such a smart idea! greetings from australia
Nice!!
Very helpful tip! Question, on the paint, is it safe ? Any chemical contamination with the water?
I've got an Old 1930's Original, thank you for the Zinc Spraying Tip ...I'm not certain about the bottom cos it leaks a bit but, maybe it can be welded...we will see.
Great idea! 👍
Very helpful thanks!
Should I believe the hype around 'magnetized water' ?

Heh, I have that same green plastic watering can and have a very similar fix on it 🤣 I'll have to look at upgrading when we move.
YOU ROCK!! Thanks for sharing Dan. :-)

It might be wisteria
I like your garden. I'd like to have super neat, organized beds.. But that's apparently not my style. I frenzy plant everywhere

Do you water from a gardening can because you don't have a water hose nearby?
You are using the channel locks backwards.

Where did you purchase the cans at thank you. RB
Does anyone know what the pretty shrub with light purple/blue flowers is? PS: I need a watering can, so this is great information 🙂
If you want forever water just put your hose in the can and drag that along! 💜
Harvest moon players know how important it is to upgrade your watering can
Please tell them to sell it with a rose head with different hole sizes
How much of the vitamin C crystals do you use?
When the water sits out 24 hours, the chlorine offgasses. That's what you do for fish.
Interesting mine is plastic and not as big
Anyone else a bit concerned he is going to poke his fingers with a boring drill bit? Ja. #NotToDoThat
Have my Dad’s, they don’t wear out if taken care of
What happened to "water the root, not the plant"?

Arent yall worried about lead?

The best is a Haws watering can. Take a look online.
I don't like it. I lost all my money on it. After 22 years it rusted in the bottom . I should have painted it
