Great work on a look at the authentic "Old West'. I was totally amazed at the revealing part of your video on the Saloon Girls of the Old West. The similarity between these lovely Ladies and the ancient and honorable Geisha Girls of Japan is remarkable! There respective duties were exactly the same. The only true difference is that the Geisha were much more institutionalized and remained a very honorable profession until this Day. As these really outstanding American Saloon Girls, the Japanese Geisha Girls we're never prostitutes. Though at times a Geisha may have an affair with a gentleman and even eventually marry him, but the never sold themselves. And, just like these outstanding American Saloon Girls, the Geisha were of a middle to upper class background. The Geisha were sophisticated and well cultures like their American Sisters. They are especially trained in song, musical instruments, and traditional Japanese folk Dance. Their profession is focused at entertaining male customers of the tavern or Teahouse in which they are employed. They sing, play the Koto (A stringed instrument), dance, and simply chat with the male customers. These are the very same duties these beautiful American Women performed! And, the intent and focus of these two groups of Sisters, was exactly the same. The Geisha are considered true Artists in every sense of the word. And, it's quite obvious that these impressive American Women were very talented Artists as well. The only real difference between these groups of Sisters is that the "Geisha Girls" were, and are, formally organized and even have a Union to represent them. Additionally, the Geisha history goes back several centuries. Other than these two factors, these outstanding Women are almost identical in their chosen careers. I want to make clear that I use the word "GIRLS" only because this is what they have traditionally been called. Personally, I realize that both these American, and the Japanese female Artists, should more correctly be referred to as, "Women". Once again you have my sincere "Thank You" for providing us with an authentic peek at the Old American West. Bravo!
Being a rather grim lad, I once owned a book entitled "Brutes, Beasts and Human Fiends." It included a chapter on Kate Bender and her clan, and implied that she lured men to their death with her good looks and charms. If momory serves, that book claimed they were killers AND cannibals, and that they were executed for their crimes. In any event, thanks for the memory jolt - I don’t think I even thought of, or even heard the name "Kate Bender," for about forty years.
I did my college senior project on American Indians and western society. Til I was done, it was over 80 pages long and I received the only A+ by my advisor. She was also an expert in this area (which I didn't know). The west n it's history are constantly being romanticized which is really sad. Great video. I love your work. Keep it up!!
I believe it was due to the fact that to even survive childhood and reach adulthood back then you either had to be incredibly tough or extremely lucky and the combination of mostly tough and lucky people who made their way to the west in those days had a lot to do with the romanticizing of what we today would call a hard life.
Most of human history ppl had very hard lives. Work work work and almost no convenience . We have no idea how lucky we are today. Even kings didn't have ac a huge selection of food from all over.
One of the guys that went to the benders for "Investigation" Said later that they had met the benders. What had transpired was just so gruesome that none of them wanted to talk about it and so they told everyone that the familie Had taken off
Annie Oakley wasn't a Westerner. She never lived in the American West. She was discovered by Buffalo Bill Cody in the East and hired to perform in his Wild West shows for several years.
Great video! I think the first female serial killer goes to Lavinia Fischer and her husband John. In 1820, they were hanged for a similar operation in their home / "Inn"
I heard the Elmer McCurdy story on Talking Till Dawn: The Fairgrounds Mummy. It's a sad but humorous story of a bumbling criminal that would be past around the US as a 'prop' for several attractions including movies. Worth a listen over at Talking Till Dawn.
Most Cowboys liked owning Dushunds rather than ranch dogs as personal companions. Hence the phrase, "get a long little doggy."😆.....O.k. yeah, that was pretty bad.😖
Man, you didn't give the Bloody Bender story any justice... the gruesome details [that were omitted here] made the story way more creepy than it seemed in this telling.
The issue is not whether people have a basic right to own guns(that issue will be debated until the end of time), but that people have a basic right to be safe from the predations of criminals. That right includes the right to meet unlawful force with equal, lawful force. History has demonstrated that no government has ever succeeded in protecting it's citizens. Of course, you have the basic right to believe what you wish to believe, but please don't come to America; stay home, where you think you are safe. By the way, guns were invented not in America, but in the Orient.
Love the videos but the only thing that irks me is saying that women had a definite choice in the “other job” available at Saloons when most of those women were abusively and forcefully made to do that “job”
David , to " motivate " and "inspire" are two very similar terms. Perhaps , substitute: Something to Do and something to Look Foreword To, would be more accurate and relatable .
How about a segment on the Rancheria Massacre in northern California? I grew up near the town it happened in, and nobody there even knows it took place
Which indeginous people? The history isn't that cut and dry some of the Indians helped kill other groups such as the mohawk that would eat babies and rape other tribeswoman to death. Yeah they still got the bad end of the stick but we weren't blood thirsty monsters all the time we helped alot of tribes and armed them dosent make up for everything but this stuff isn't always American bad like the slavery argument every race has a history of slavery some of the earliest slaves were white it's just what it is
@@user-zv9um9pb6w I dunno, good people do good things, bad people do bad things, to get good people to do bad things takes religion or reasonable facsimile.
When you have to put in a disclaimer because someone might be offended...proves that anyone who gets offended over anything would have died early in childhood during the wild west days. Weak minded fools had 0 chance of surviving anything.
18 months for an armed robbery. Seems like things are far more strict today in some ways. She’s be looking at 5 to 10 years today. Women also held political offices in the Wild West.

The West is like the Pirates era: we made it look so cool and fancy, when it truly was far from this.

I love this channel. The narrator's voice sounds so familiar and comforting lol
Labette county was misidentified as being in Texas. It’s in Kansas.
Isn't this the exact same video this channel uploaded a couple weeks ago?

thank you. youre the first person to say it was sad and not romantic. These people were criminal and anti human!
It got the name Wild for a reason. Dirty Little Billy (Michael Pollard) iconic classic for it's mud, raw depiction of the reality of it
At 7:32 I totally expected to hear "if it weren't for those meddling kids".
Definitely watch this video already

The Wild West was a horrible time period to be alive, but the romanticization of it is fascinating, so many cool stories
My thoughts the same lol
I believe it was due to the fact that to even survive childhood and reach adulthood back then you either had to be incredibly tough or extremely lucky and the combination of mostly tough and lucky people who made their way to the west in those days had a lot to do with the romanticizing of what we today would call a hard life.

@@jpmonin7429 My thoughts exactly. Indeed, medieval kings had terrible healthcare. The Wild West was no worse than any time that came before it.
I live better than the world's richest king from the 1400s.
I wanted to point out an error. Labette County is in Kansas. I also would like to say great video as always.
You said that the dead would begin desecrating, I believe you mean decomposing.
One of the guys that went to the benders for "Investigation" Said later that they had met the benders. What had transpired was just so gruesome that none of them wanted to talk about it and so they told everyone that the familie Had taken off
wow so disgusting to not say the truth

great vid the saloon girls reminds me of Apalosa a great western.
Great video!

Labette County and the Benders are in KANSAS. Between Parsons Ks. and Cherryvale Ks to be exact. Nothing to do with Texas at all.
I heard the Elmer McCurdy story on Talking Till Dawn: The Fairgrounds Mummy. It's a sad but humorous story of a bumbling criminal that would be past around the US as a 'prop' for several attractions including movies. Worth a listen over at Talking Till Dawn.
Excuse me, wild west saloons
so cool!!
"The body was desicrating"?? You meant decomposing right?
An dead body can be desecrated(treated with violent disrespect or violated)
Wait I’m wrong I went back and rewatched and I guess I wasn’t paying to much attention when he talked about that
I wonder if he said desiccated, meaning that it was dried out?
Liquids come out of passed things… happens too animals I can assume the same for humans
That part does confuse me tho
Seen once glad to see it again. Why not try to rerun the very first video you have done.
Please can I ask you a question?
I think you mean "decomposing" not "desacrating"
or desiccating.
You might tell the story of Bodie ghost town in the Eastern Sierra of California.
5:50 single motherhood really beeen a bad thing
Most Cowboys liked owning Dushunds rather than ranch dogs as personal companions.
Hence the phrase, "get a long little doggy."😆.....O.k. yeah, that was pretty bad.😖
I've got one thing to say: OUCH!
The hygiene back then would have been something to be desired, which was why the average live expectancy was about 32 to 33
Benders were in kansas
So ... when do we get to 'The Scary Life That was "Normal"'?
goddamn in california men outnumbered women 9 to 1 ? talk about irl tinder
Bloody Benders, reminded me of the Harpe brothers
🤔

Interesting name 🤔.
Did i see this already?
Yea i just saw a vid about this same exact topic not long ago
No I know for sure now this is a reupload
There is no Labette County in Texas. Only in Kansas. And the map you showed was of the same.
My fun fact about the west is that my last name is Burnet
If you know, you know. As they say online
How cool! 7:20 I had a family member that owned some of Pearl Heart's property up til recently. It's really cool to hear her mentioned.
4:51: decomposing, not desecrating.
They should make a movie or a show out of this
Seen this, maybe on a different channel?
same channel
The Benders were not America's earliest-documented serial killers.
That title belongs to the Harpe Brothers.
Labette County is in Kansas
Kansas
You have the right family and county but wrong state. This happened in Kansas not Texas. Labette county KS is in the Southeast corner of the state.
Accent at the beginning was rougghhhhh ahahahahah
Labette County is in Kansas not Texas. Plus, I would not consider what the Benders did "normal" behavior in the Wild West.
Well, I have a set of spurs and I still carry my sidearm. I am only 63 .
The Benders lived.
It's easy to talk to the dead. It's getting them to respond that's the problem.
If you live in the free states you can still walk around like his intro, even with a rifle
Annie Oakley (real name, Phoebe Ann Moses) not only bested Frank Butler in a shooting match, she married him!
SO the TV Series 📺 🙄 Gunsmoke is at 50% true 👍 gotcha
The body would not be “desecrating” it would be decomposing.
Interesting video
There is a pair of shoes in the Wyoming state museum made of the skin from Big Nose George the outlaw….😟
some weird things are still normal over there. Like feeling its a basic human right to own guns 🤣

The Wild West nothing compared to the slums of the big cities. Even Davey Crockett acknowledged that.
Benders storyline was on kansas
Wow that was bad.
Won't be back.
You mean you guys don’t condone serial killing😂😂

The Benders were in Kansas, not Texas
If you are going to quote get it right. Columbus was not Woody Harrison. So guess again.
