This guy made a video... of him editing a video... genius.
And the video he was editing was about him unboxing the laptop he uses to edit this video :')
Inception vibes!
Geeks will be geeks.
best way to review editing , I'm going to buy that app ! he should get paid for that advertisment , smart a** idea
One thing I love about The Everyday Dad is that he's so though with his reviews. He doesn't do the typical unboxing use it for 3 hours and never mention it again videos.
Im guessing you ment thorough
Probably one of the most important videos on the new MacBook Pro 13 inch on the internet.
What a dad! 💪
Wow, this is literally what i was looking for, thank you, now i have more confidence on buying this computer for university
you shouldnt have bought it xd
Nice review, I got the base model and planing on getting into video editing. So far it’s working great
8gb RAM vs 16gb Ram?
Do you use 1080p video or 4k video?
@@mycahsytolmajakil Im curious too.
Doing the same thing
Also got base model 8 GB, working perfectly with Final cut pro + 2.7K gopro videos
iNet16 how about ps? I’m thinking about getting the base 8 gb for editing pictures and school. You think it’s enough?or I should go for 16 gb?
Imagine editing this very video seeing himself editing another video in Final Cut, and seeing himself in another video. It’s the inception of video editing.
Everyday dad: “if I can figure it out”
The crowd: “YOU CAN FIGURE IT OUT”
I actually said it with a crowd in my mind like those Multi Level Marketing conventions....looool.
I thought I was the only one saying it out loud
First ever, real, hands on, review, where we experience the review , not listen to it
The last time I watched you, this channel was almost only about the dji spark, drones and action cams, its so cool to see how far you've come and how much the video quality improved! (I was subscribed but didnt get notifications, post notis on!)
Well thanks so much! I do try and get a little bit better each time 👍
Spoiler: if the iPhone SE can be your only editing computer, the base MacBook Pro can probably be your only editing computer :) But Gary, what about all those poor souls editing on Premiere Pro, I'm sure it will not work as well.
premiere pro is an L in itself
Red Beats Media premiere pro is fantastic
@@_xxsimoxz_7310 I just have bad experiences with it crashing a lot or refusing to launch all the time. Ik when it's working, it can be good.
Red Beats Media yes, the crashes are kind of a hassle
nahhh premiere pro is the goat but it is a little buggy
great video!
Ipad Pro or 2020 13" MacBookPro for video editing?
What's the name of hdmi recorder you used?
Thanks for sharing!!
What timing! UA-cam recommended this video to me right after I ordered my 13" MacBook Pro (upgraded to 16gb in ram). Last week I had to say goodbye to my poor lil 2014, 13" MacBook Air when it crashed while I was editing my first ever video (rip), I'm happy to see I made the right choice with my upgrade. Can't wait to receive it and finally dive in to some uninterrupted editing!
What is the external device you use to record screens?
THIS IS A QUALITY CONTENT! very informative at the same time very entertaining! nice video man! will definitely buy myself one. ☺️
Thank you for this video. I am new to UA-cam. Just started my channel in January. I do EVERYTHING on my iPad with iMovie and can see as I grow that I may need to upgrade and looking at some that are refurbished. Or going to wait for the M1. Learning Final Cut Pro is going to be fun to learn but I appreciate this content. Thanks!
finally a review that i am actually interested in viewing , not boring at all! THANKYOU.
This worked better than I would have expected. 90% of the time I would suggest that one go with a proxy workflow though. Takes less time than people would assume, and makes the editing process buttery smooth. I mostly edit on Resolve, Premiere and Avid though, so the FCP X workflow may differ
I think a video showing your editing process, would be dope.
exaaactly
THANK YOU THE EVERYDAY DAD
Thanks!
@@TheEverydayDad Please post stock wallpapers from the new MacBook Pro 13 2020 in hi-res?
is he using a 8gb or 16gb ram macbook?
Steven 8GB
Hey everyday dad! Could you consider adding the render of the Bruce X performance test? It’s a really small file and let us realise the relative performance between our laptops and the ones that you review. This way we can see the actual difference in performance and the total gain that we will have if we purchase the laptop that you are reviewing. And if you already rendered, could you post the amount of time that took you to render? Thank you!
Love this that you support the base models and don’t up sale
*This has been the best review!!* You let me know everything I had questions about, such as CPU, RAM and etc. I was worried if the i5 processor would be enough for 1080 but if it was good enough for 4k I'm sure it will work. And you introduced cool editing tricks, THANK YOU!

Thanks so much!
my friend what about your dell xps ? is this good in graphic design ? and what about battery ? and sound ? ... thank you🙂
Hey make a comparison of all the apple's products video editing and rendering time glad to see you to upload videos in morning
Will be getting 13inch Base with 16gb of RAM. Can’t wait!
Same here
J.Phoenix Gaming on the new 2020 MacBook?
@@Suave26 If you want to play light games, macbook is fine. But if you want some more than that, you are better of with a pc
I am gonna get the base modal as well. But I cant decide wheter to get the 16 gb ram upgrde or not. Do yo think it will make big difference in the long run?
@@ezgiozakyol517 I went with the 16 gb ram. Cant upgrade it later...
I like your work... unlike other UA-camr who only review the top notch model in their video, your video shows how the base model performs where I personally think most of the people in the market are looking for.
Love ur these types of videos it helps many people decide what to buy
Would love to see your editing workflow video! I’m sure you’re very efficient and would be good to see how you do it
Just the video, I needed! I’m on a 2015 MBA running FCPX, and after the latest Catalina update and FPCX updates, my MBA is bogging down considerably. It’s expected with 4MB RAM. What would be the next model up you’d recommend?
Just ordered the MacBook Pro 13” 2020 with 16GB ram. My previous MacBook Pro was a mid 2012 model. Can’t wait! Anyone else?
MJ Alay same
it came today
I'm rocking a 13inch 2018 MBP w/touchbar. Works pretty well with most things, I primarily edit podcasts on it and now video versions of some of them. I did buy an EGPU last fall which helps a decent amount but many edits I've done without it and it holds its own. I think the 13inch can work well for most. My next test is taking my workflow and putting on my new 2020 ipad pro w/magic keyboard. I saw your videos on it and I'm interested to see what i can do with it.
iPad Pro vs Base Model 13" MBP for 4K Editing... The video everybody wants.
Urbane Sports Report YES!
Excellent video and a lot of us were waiting for this video!! Thanks 😊...The base model Macbook Pro 13 with the Intel Iris 645 graphics and the 8th Gen chip can actually edit 4K 10 bit files in Final Cut Pro!!
I'm editing video on a 2017 base model 13" Macbook pro with Adobe Premiere. Generally, I don't have any issues cutting and color grading, but when I add motion graphics and AE rendered files, it screeches to a halt. And rendering is an overnight affair. Maybe I should look into Final Cut... Thanks for the video!
Good job! Was wondering if the basic model was good enough for editing, answers a lot of questions about the editing capabilities! Thanks for the video!!!
I have to admit this is my favorite youtube channel !!!!
The question I always have in my mind. You answered it.
The base model might be enough for editing here and there but it's not future proof. The specs could not last you maybe at least 3 years. Eventually, if you do heavily on editing, then that could be a bit of an issue.
Why only 3 years??
That's why i'm going with $1799 model. My current MBP is 10 years old so whatever i buy its gotta last me.
That’s pretty impressive for the base model! I really wanted the 14”
To come out but I think I’m gonna go for
The top spec 13”, as my 2016 with butterfly keys is just terrible!
Top spec 2020 13’’ that’s a LOT of money for what you buy 🙄
For the price of this entry model you can get a pretty good windows laptop that is actually made for this kind of tasks.
@@OliverHenaineOficial But then u will have a bulky 2 - 2,5 kg machine. That make just sense when you are using your computer just at home.
@@David-fm9wr its most likely delayed
Reno yes I would prob need top spec too! The 1TB harddrive
Love your video! Do you think if you choose the 2020 8th gen MacBook Pro 13 (which you are using in the video), but instead of 8gb ram, configure it with 16GB ram, that would make a big difference in video editing? How big would be the difference? Thank you for your answer!
Its been a while since i last watched one of youre videos glad to see how much youre channel improved. Hope you still remember me😀
Great review! It convinced me that the base 13" MBP is plenty good for my video editing neeeds.
I still use the mid 2012 macbook pro.. it's definitely not the fastest.. but i still can edit 4k video file from sony a6400 with two layers footage in final cut pro x.. a roll and b roll.. but i would be happy if i had enough money to spend for a new macbook pro.. but right now i have to be grateful with what i have
ombre visual same; I still use a 13’ 2012. Updated to 16gb ram and 480gb SSD and its a complete workhorse.
I have 2015 Macbook Pro and it works just fine until right now for video editing
Thanks for the video 👍🏻 Now I sure that I can edit 1080p video in MacBook pro 13 base model 💪🏼
HIGHLY enjoyed this!
Good video thanks for sharing your thoughts. You should use multicam mode in Final Cut for your edits and combine then into one file, then you can switch between cam a and cam b and cam c if you need it- would make your life a lot easier. Final Cut can sync them up based on sound - so just clap as you start recording. You are very good on camera - very natural, subbed ! Also worth buying Compressor to send the files to it direct from Final Cut Pro - then you can time them easier and it opens up a lot more final rendering modes for you too including batching.
I already bought mine , bc of this video,. thank u always making videos like this is help a lot
My 7th gen i5 Lenovo laptop overheats when I run this video 4K.
I'm using the base model on Davinci Resolve and work smoothly. I do basic editings like cutting, text overlays, and some speed ramps. A 3-minute video can be rendered in less than 3 minutes with significant fan throttling. I also have Photoshop and Firefox running in the background. **Im only doing 1080p videos**
I love this channel thank you for all the amazing reviews!
By the way ,can you do a full-usage video on 16 inch base model 💻 MacBook Pro
Like(editing, apps, how many apps can run at the same time, advantages when comparing to the 13inch MacBook Pro.)
Thank you for this video,
For me this video is the best video in your channel
Yes I need the 16 inch MacBook Pro
Very nice video! Thanks! Can you also make the same test with the 1800 Dollar model?
Another excellent video - thank you. By the way, what is the keyboard you use please? Thanks.
Thank man! I really needed this question answered 🤙
Not a Mac person, but good video. Any chance you can put the camera where the monitor isn't in-frame? It is a bit distracting...
Hi 🙋♂️ man,I am very much impressed with this episode, lovely content ,this is what the fans need,I hope you do more videos like this,🥳🍰🍰🥰🎉
The 16 inch MacBook Pro video will be a good one
Thank you ! You proved that it doesn't matter about the internal drive . You can buy accessories that helps with the low memory and save you some money ❤
Good review! What external device do you use to for the display? I like to edit in a big screen also!
Nice review!
BTW I love the Melt Bar & Grilled too❤️
Its crazy cause i started to see your videos and looks like you have a video for all my questions and comparative from cameras that i was looking for. You are the man, man 😂🤟
Excellent content!!
I’ve been waiting for this video!
Expecting soon 🔜 16 inch MacBook Pro video (the base model 2399$)
Perfect video for me!
You look so identical to D2D. Are you guys related?
Hi. Is it the quad core 8th gen Intel core i5 processor? By the way, great video and very informative. I'm planning on buying macbook pro 13. TIA
Getting ready to buy one,I’m an amateur photographer as a hobby but clueless on editing I want the best editing app any suggestions?or what are they even called ???
Thank you! This was what I needed!
Just the vid I was looking for
Oh nice! Hope it helped out 👍
@@TheEverydayDad It did, thanks!
I used the cheapest 2016 13" MacBook pro for final cut and it actually works better than my new 2020 16" MacBook pro for many things.
Nice! Glad it works out for you 👍
How so? You make me curious haha
@@mrandrewts believe it or not my new 16" gets lag and video break up on files when my older 13" does not.
Thank you for this awesome video. I have one question, in regarding to video editing, would this mac-book pro perform little better if i was to upgrade the RAM to 16Gig?
But it’s gonna be struggling when you have a few safari tabs on right? While on FCPX
So happy I came across your channel! Great content! New sub!
That t-shirt though. Melt is where it's at.
Thank you 😊 I was waiting for this video
Super helpful!!! Thank you SO MUCH!!
I got a 2015 15" Base Model Macbook Pro and I can edit/export 4k video on it. So I have to clearly assume anything newer will work fine.
The rendering that is going on is just timeline rendering of effects and clips that don't conform to the timeline settings.
It can generate optimised or proxy media (ProRes) on import, but that would be shown in "Transcoding and Analysis".
I’ll only use it for buying stocks, watching UA-cam, movies and listening to music. Basic is good enough for me.
You might be better with the MacBook Air honestly... I'd give it a thought.
yaa agreed. macbook air is good enough if you’re not doing heavy stuff (video editing/ gaming etc).
I use my base model 2018 Macbook Pro and there is nooooooo wayyyyyyyy you will be able to edit on this. I had to get an egpu. Pretty ridiculous to call it a pro laptop ...but hey ,apple will slap the word pro on just about anything. Helpful to see that you can on the 2020 models
Such a good video, its helping me decided what computer to buy
I’ve been watching you for about a month and your reviews are the best I’ve seen. I’m a filmmaker that has been editing on iPad Pro but I’m upgrading to the Mac Pro 13” 256gb with Final Cut Pro. Can I manage with 256gb or do I really need to go up to 512gb?
Good video. Has nothing to do with the processor. The 13” MacBook pros don’t have dedicated graphic cards. You absolutely need that to do video editing or 3D graphics. Also if you are going off a regular hard drive with the files rather then a SSD that is problem.
will upgrading the base model to 16gb ram make a difference in improving the render times and the smoothness of playback and scrubbing?
Yes it will, specially for tasks as photo editing
Yes playback and scrubbing will get better.
Hey Everydaydad, sorry don’t know your actual name lol, sort of new to your channel that’s why, but anyway, I want to upgrade my MacBook hopefully soon, for my UA-cam channel and start posting more content, but I film on my iPhone. Can you recommend what do I use to upload footage onto my MacBook from my iPhone? Thank you in advance! I’m not a tech guy but want to learn soon lol like how to do this stuff hahaha! Great video always!
Sorry also, forgot to say, I am new to editing and edit on iMovie on my iPhone too lol 😭😭. Do you recommend this MacBook Pro 2020 base model?
I don’t know much about computers and all I wanted to know before buying this computer was will this base model be enough to handle editing. And this video answered my question perfectly!! I ended up upgrading my RAM to 16GB hoping that’d make it run faster than my current 8GB but I also don’t plan to store any of my videos on my actual computer. Do you think using an external hard drive would be better?
So your 8gb is running slow right now? I was going to order the 8gb one but went with 16gb one today.
Tori Dixson yeah I had a 2011 MacBook Air and I feel like it was even slower coz it was so old. I feel like everyone automatically assumes that you need to upgrade the storage and you’ll be good but if ur gonna do more than just web surfing and you wanna run programs ur gonna want a faster computer which is why the RAM is important. You made a good decision!
Hello Dad! I've been lurking in your videos before I get my MBP 13" (base model) After 2 days of using it for my work (PS, AI apps) I noticed that it gets uncomfortably or let's say 'weirdly' hot. Is that normal? I came from using MBP 15" before and this heat is kinda new to me. Of course the 15" gets hot sometime, but I'm a bit worry about my 13". And another question, does the fan really this quiet? I'm literally sticking my ears on the vents and can't hardly hear any fan noise. Thanks!
You are doing a great job! What is that external device you use to record your videos? I was hoping you had a link for it.
I record the screens with an Atomos Ninja V.
@@TheEverydayDad Wow. Thanks so much. I'm gearing up to do more, and better, videos in general. This helps!
Hi! I’m not sure if you answer this messages but your video was quite convincing! I’m a drone pilot and I’m doing some short 4K videos and obviously need editing. I’m planning to get the basic model with 512gb ssd, you think this model will be enough for the mentioned task?
Thank you in advance
Hi!! I am looking forward to buying an Apple Macbook Pro 13" but I am confused about what specs do I go for. I want to use it for some GPU based coding of data science and some 4K editing too... Professionally I am a teacher and do a bit of filmmaking for youtube videos as a hobby... I am from India and economically speaking if a buy a laptop now, I can upgrade it only after another 10 yrs maybe. So please suggest should I go for the M1 processor (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) or the Intel i5 (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD)? Will 512GB SSD be sufficient or should I go for 1 TB? Looking forward to your guidance.
My initial desire was so get a 13" MBP in 2020. But $1300 on a device that struggles to do 4K editing when an iPad Pro breezes thru it is so frustrating.
So base xps 15 or base macbook pro from 2020? Either a reply or a video would be great. I'm guessing the software you choose to edit on also comes in to play. @everydaydad
Just found your channel .. awesome content ... do you ever use a dock to simplify your setup?
Going to school in August for medical coding. I have a pro from early 2015 base model. Has 128 storage i5 and 8gb memory. I for sure want more storage (duh never enough). I do light edited for UA-cam in iMovie (would love to start going more fancy with final cut?). I run my photos etc off an external (again storage issue). Debating between 2020 air and 2020 pro. I watched your comparison and still torn! My classes are all online. I may use this as a work computer next year as I enter the workforce but many companies provide computers even off site. I don’t really “need” a new laptop. But I am still running on Sierra as well. Thoughts? Should I invest? I want speed, multiple tabs open and switching between, storage, lightweight!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! I will also get an educator discount so if that helps your suggestion to bump up. In addition I got a quote to turn in my current pro and get $320 credit. Should I trade in or try to sell private? So many options and I am overwhelmed.
Hey Everyday Dad, can you edit a video using the same machine but with an eGPU? 🤞🏼
I'm using a 2017 MacBook Pro base model for video editing. I bought extra ram and that was fine, it was when the memory data through rendering was starting to use the ssd drive was when I Really became unstuck. Fortunately as it was a 2017 mbp I was able to swap out the ssd drive, something you cant do on the 2018 onwards. I reckon a 2020 should manage 4k easily. But then I also have a 12 core 2012 Mac pro that does the job just as well.
FCPX works so well, I can easily edit 4k footage on my wife's 2013 MacBook Air.
Great review. Thanks
love your energy!
I edit 2.7k and render into 4k on my 2017 mbp - I5 version... no problems ever.. i have it bootcamped and i use Vegas.
